    Alex's bunk Empty Alex's bunk

Post by Green 11/21/2014, 9:35 pm

"Well isnt this homey?"Derek mumbled to himself and put his suitcase down beside a bunk. Sighing, he sat on his bunk and started to unpack his clothes. He had to admit, this was a pretty nice setup considering the fact that it is a cabin. He clicked his tongue and looked up, staring at a statue of Demeter. Was this really what his mother looked like?

Alex's bunk Empty Re: Alex's bunk

Post by Morgan Landry 11/22/2014, 9:22 am

Jana Kay was in a corner of the Demeter cabin, a chocolate cookie between her teeth as she filled a beautiful glass bowl with potting soil. She loved doing terrariums -- they were simply so fun and enjoyable to do! She loved making a large variety of plants grow in them and put them around her house in Scotland when winter came, to keep some green around with all the cold white snow. Not that she didn't like snow, mind you -- she loved it.
She had already put in a layer of tiny stones at the bottom of the glass followed by a bit of activated charcoal then some sphagnum moss to prevent the soil from settling. She bit into her cookie, delicately putting the half she hadn't yet eaten on her elbow -- her hands were dirty with earth and charcoal -- then let the cookie glide from her elbow down onto a spotless part of the table. Mmm, this zest of tangerine and the chocolate chips.... It literally melted on her tongue. Homemade cookies were the best.

Now that she had the soil and everything, she took the tiny house she had made out of stones and wood in Arts and Crafts and put it inside the bowl. She had just made the first plants grow when the door to the cabin opened, showing an African American boy of about seventeen that she didn't know. He was new judging from his suitcase and the way he looked around the cabin.

"Hey there!" she said, coming over to him whilst wiping her dirty hands on her bermuda shorts. "You're new? I'm Jana Kay, awesome to meet you. I'd shake your hand, but --" She showed him her earth-covered hands and chuckled, which dug dimples in her young cheeks and made her green eyes glisten.
She was wearing one of her orange camp shirts with the green bermuda shorts, mismatched flip flops -- one yellow, one blue -- and had braided her long blonde hair over her shoulder with daisies.

Derek fixed his sweater so that he looked more presentable. First impressions count. His father used to tell him. He looked over at the girl in the corner and stood up from his bed. Smiling he pulled his hands out of his jacket and offered her a hand anyway. "That's quiet alright. I'm used to having dirt on my hands anyway." He said with a soft smile. "And I'm Derek, nice to meet you, Jana Kay." He looked around his bunk. "Would you like to sit? Or are you still working on your terrarium?" Derek asked her.

"Green thumb too I see," Jana Kay grinned and shook his hand, leaving soil and charcoal marks on his skin. "Kind of everyone is here, really. And yeah, I'm still working on it but I can do that while I'm sitting."

She went to get the glass bowl and the plate of homemade chocolate cookies -- careful not to touch any of the cookies with her hands -- and carried both back to where Derek was. "Here, help yourself," she smiled, handing him the plate of cookies. "I did them in the Big House earlier with a couple of friends and siblings."

The Scottish girl put the glass bowl on her knees and concentrated with a smile. Even if it took up energy, there was nothing she liked more than making plants grow, creating green life. A couple of seconds later, soft patches of green moss sprouted around the tiny house, overshadowed by an unraveling spider fern. She put some more stones in it to form a path and went to put it on her night table next to her sunglasses.

"So where are you from?" she asked with a wide, frank smile.

He smiled at his half sister, moving over so that she may have a place to sit. "Why thank you, sis." He laughed a bit and took a chocolate chip cookie, biting into it- chewing slowly, he watched as Jana Kay finished up her terrarium. The cookie tasted like Heaven on Earth, rather Olympus on Earth. After he swallowing, Derek wiped his hands on his jeans and moved his leg over another. "Well, I'm originally from Cape Town, South Africa, but I moved to America when I was five. Tennessee to be exact." He answered proudly, straightening his black leather jacket. "What about you? What country are you from?" He asked, noticing her accent.

"Oooohhh, fancy," Jana Kay commented, tilting her head to the side. She kicked her flip flops off to sit on her bed cross-legged, putting her elbows on her knees. "I'm from Scotland," she said with very thick Scottish accent, pronounced r and long o. "Stirling to be exact. How's Tennessee? I've never been there."

He laughed some and pushed the sleeves of his jacket up just below his elbow. "Cape Town can be. The coast is gorgeous, simply breath taking." Derek said in a whispered, closing his eyes as he reminisced about the summers he spent there. He soon came back to reality and looked at Jana Kay. "Sorry about that." He sat up straight. "I thought you were from there. That was my first guess. Ireland was my second."Derek smiled at her and looked down at his lap. "Tennessee is okay I guess. That is unless you're different."He mumbled underneath his breath.

"Aw man.. I wish I could go there," Jana Kay dreamily said. "I've never really traveled to be honest. All I know is Scotland, London, New York and this French town I went with my class to."

She grinned at him then took some tissues to wipe her hands clean with before taking a cookie herself. "When did you arrive though?" she asked, careful not to speak with a full mouth.

Derek smiled a bit. "I would love to go to those places! Even the little town in France "
He exclaimed laughing some as he repositioned himself. "Actually I just got here." 'He answered, pulling the sleeves of his jacket back down. "What about you. When did you get here?" He asking, returning the question.

"Oh yes, the town was awesome. And the food there, oh my gosh. I'd die for some more pain au chocolat."

She chuckled and bit in her cookie again, some crumbs on her chin. "Oh, I arrived here five years ago. When I was nine," she smiled again with her lips closed whilst resuming chewing the cookie bite before swallowing. "Camp Half-Blood is my other home now."

Derek nodded slowly while she was talking. Smiling, he took another bite out of the chocolate chip cookie and placed it on his thigh. "That's good. If you like it here then I should too." He laughed a bit and placed his hands on the bed, taking in deep breaths. The cabin smelled of fresh herbs and spices. "I think I saw a strawberry patch when I walked into camp? I would love to go there and just lay down like I used to do in the fields behind my house. Somehow I feel closer to my mom..I mean our mom. Sorry."

"Oh yeah, the strawberry fields are basically the reason we can have stuff from the outer world. We guys from the Demeter cabin make them grow along with the satyrs so they're pretty good on the market."

She finished her cookie and gave him a smile. "Do you wanna go there now? Or are you still in the whole (she made an ecompassing gesture at his suitcase) unpacking phase?"

He shook his head. "Nah, let's go to the strawberry fields. Maybe you can show me some more of your powers." Derek said with a big smile. He stood up and brushed the crumbs into the floor. "Mind leading the way? I might get us lost." He laughed a bit before sticking his hands into his pockets.

"Haha, you haven't seen my powers yet," she smiled, "but I'm sure we have pretty much the same."

She put her flip flops back on and hopped down the stairs of the cabin, briefly turning around to make sure he was following, then resumed walking, keeping up a strolling pace so they could walk next to each other.

"Did anyone give you a tour of Camp yet?"

"Oh I see!" Derek laughed and got off of the bed and followed Jana Kay out the Demeter cabin. "No, not really. I just worked through camp and toward the greenhouse looking cabin." He explained and smiled at her before looking around at the other cabins. He squinted at one of them. "Why it so...bright?". He asked, pointing to the Apollo cabin.

"Oh, that's the Apollo cabin. It always shines so bright when sun rays fall on it because you know, Apollo is the sun god and stuff." A couple of kids were playing acoustic guitar in front of it or just enjoying the sun. "They're fairly easy to recognize. Everyone in cabin 7 has cool hair and hangs out."

She walked across the courtyard, showing him the different cabins.

"Over there you got Hypnos -- make sure to drink some superstrong black coffee with anti-narcotics before going in there otherwise you'll fall asleep in five minutes. Also, there's some kind of white water in decorative bowls there. Don't get near it. It's Lethe water, touch it and you lose your memory."

They passed another cabin that looked like a miniature Las Vegas casino out of which pop music and gaming sounds could be heard -- "Tyche. Goddess of good luck and fortune. They're always getting into arguments with the Nemesis guys," she said, pointing to another cabin across the yard, a dull gray one with a broken wheel above the door.

Derek smiled as he looked at te differen cabins his sister was showing to him. "Look at that one! It's like an oversized Barbie doll house!" He exclaimed as pointed to the pink colored cabin. "And look at the beautiful people!"He added as he saw a guy looking in small mirror, fixing his blonde hair and a girl painting her toe nails on the steps of the cabin. "That must be Venus..no, Aphrodite's cabin!" Derek never seen anything like this in his life.

"Oh, yes... the Aphrodite's," Jana Kay smiled. "A lot of people don't take them seriously because they have this stereotype about them that they're shallow and wimpy. I actually like them, they're pretty cool. If you have problems in your love life, they always give you good advice and most are super kind. One even gave me a makeover once."

She grinned at Derek. "You can get one too if you want."

"A makeover? Really? Because I sure could use one." Derek laughed a bit and crossed his arms as he looked around at the courtyard at the cabins that represented each god parent. "What about that one?" He asked, pointing to one that looked like a plain cabin. "Who lives there? The unknowns?" He asked Jana Kay with his head tilted to the side in question.

"What? Oh no, that's the Other gods cabin," she said with a smile. "It's basically like a pantheon, but for demigods. There are so many deities in Ancient Greece that Camp Half-Blood would become a metropolis if we made one cabin for each one, so we sometimes regroup a certain category of demigods into one cabin. That cabin over there, for example" -- she pointed to a cabin with seashells on the roof and blueish reflections on the muddy brown walls -- "is the Minor Water Gods cabin. Most of them are the kids of Triton or Briareus, but there are some of Delphin, Psamathe and the like. Chill dudes.

Derek listened to his sister explain the different cabins that seemed to be grouped by certain attributes. "This is so cool. I have to admit." He said with a chuckled and crossed his arms in amazement. "I think I'm more shocked that me, Derek is a son of the goddess who orchestrates the seasons and feeds mankind." He looked over at her. "Will we ever get to meet her? Like in person?" He asked.

"Oh yes. Every solstice, we demigods go on a trip to Olympus to meet our god parents, you can tag along," she said with a frank smile. "I'm very grateful for that to be honest. We practically never see our god parents -- except for the Dionysus kids, since he's kind of at Camp Half-Blood for the next fifty years -- but normally we see them twice a year. They sometimes talk to us though, or help us, when we're in danger."

Derek gasped in excitement. "Really?! We go to Olympus? That's amazing! I'll make sure to put it on my calendar." He stated and smiled widely. "Do we get gifts from them? Like homemade bread?" He asked Jana Kay. He could hardly contain himself. He never met his mother in real life; only stories his father told him. A small vine started to grow beside his left foot, probably from his zealous attitude.

She continued up the path, waving at Lacy from the Aphrodite's who was just flying overhead on a chestnut pegasus.

"Mum is the best goddess ever, in my opinion," the 14 years old frankly said. "She's so warm and welcoming... you'll love her, you'll see!"
