Of course John was overjoyed to see her, but it didn't show. Labyrinth was well known at Camp for being cold, calculated. He never let his emotions betray him. But with this girl. She compromised him. Made him vulnerable, an easy target in his line of work. But on the other hand, the thrill he got from just being in her presence was unprecedented in any of his other experiences in life. Was she worth the risk of compromise? SLAP. Labyrinth's head recoiled as the back of Lola's hand made contact with the left side of his face. He gingerly touched his face with his right hand. I probably deserved that he thought to himself, letting it go. It wasn't by far the worst strike Labyrinth had been hit by, but damn Lola had a good backhand. And as tears rolled down her face, John felt torn up inside. He never wanted her to have to feel this way. To think that he caused her this pain, it absolutely devastated him. All he wanted to do was to reach out and wipe the tears from her face and tell her that everything was going to fine now. That they were together. But the logical part of his brain held him back. Knowing that he would face rejection if he tried to comfort her.
Lola asked a simple question "Geunyang tteonassda. wae ?" And all John wanted to do was give a simple answer. Labyrinths brain took a minute, trying to think of all the best possible ways to explain to her. He let out a breath, and as he inhaled his brain finally clicked into the path it wanted to take. "It's hard to explain" he began, speaking in English now. "The reason I was in South Korea, was so that I could gather intelligence on your father. However things changed once I met you. I fell for you. And to have an attachment like that compromises an operative, like me. So the task force pulled me. Said I wasn't fit. I had no choice but to leave. They didn't allow me communication, my phones were tapped, my mail was watched." As Labyrinth took a pause for breath he looked down at the path and then back up at Lola. She was honestly so beautiful. He looked deep into her brown eyes, reminiscing of times they had spent in each others arms in South Korea, talking about anything really. Anything and everything. Pulling out of the day dream, he finished up. "I would've been blacklisted if I had tried to contact you." he told her. "There was nothing I could've done." He said softly, trailing off.
