Injuries in the aftermath? (OPEN) Empty Injuries in the aftermath? (OPEN)

Leandra was acutely aware, when she was brought to the field hospital that she should be working in it, not being a patient in it. Also that she wasn't the only patient. Edward was unscathed, but James wasn't, and that wasn't enough for a full tent to be erected with beds and stuff. Her mind was fuzzy, though, as she tried to think. They had given her ambrosia and nectar as much as they could, a light bandage on her leg until the actual healers could see it. Bandages to stop the bleeding from her flanks too. She couldn't breathe deeply without extreme pain, pain that seemed to describe her life right now.

All the girl wanted to do was be blissfully unaware of everything for a little while. Her mind felt overloaded and full, detached from what she should be thinking. Everything was vague, except for one thing, every time she closed her eyes, she saw herself being attacked by the hellhound. She pushed herself up on the cot, flooding herself with pain as she did, trying to get up. She wanted to be active, needed to be active, to be doing something. To be helping others. She couldn't just stay lying in the bed. Her mind couldn't take that. The idea of them being attacked again was too much, and she didn't have any weapons on her. Or her armor. She needed to get up and do something. Anything. But oh gods, her back and ribs.

Some would think that being a daughter of a peace goddess would make a person feel pretty comfortable in any situation. This goes for many social gatherings, such as house parties or parades. Volunteering in the infirmary should have been a very easy task for Kiera, considering she had done it maybe three or four times in the past. It was much simpler those last times since all she really had to do was bring lunches and little snacks to the patients; no one asked her to do more because apparently she looked scary. Believe it or not, the infirmary was very fun to work in as long as drawing blood wasn’t involved.

Or evil robots attacking the camp.

The infirmary currently was a wreck. Legionnaires were getting rushed in every minute, injuries ranging from minor to so severe that there would be no way to save them. Kiera had first realized that Camp Jupiter was in danger when she was reading a magazine outside and witnessed an angry robot-version of Juno running through the barracks yelling about the laundry. She had hopped to her feet and ran inside, waiting for the surge of injured campers to arrive. Right now, she was currently walking around with a sacked lunches and her face in full glare-mode. Kiera stopped in front of the next patient, who had sat up so quickly that Kiera almost had a heart attack. “Whoa there. You’re beat up pretty badly, aren’t you?” She set a lunch at the girl’s bedside and squatted next to her. She looked like she needed a doctor. Kiera was not a doctor, but she did have fruit and milk cartons.

Leandra grunted in pain as she tried to push herself up to sitting again.  She hissed as her arms buckled and the furthest she got was up on to elbows. Despite the continued ringing in her ears ever since that last hit, Leandra was able to make out what the person had said. She was fairly certain. "Nah, this is just another day in paradise." She replied, her sarcasm a shield for the fact that she was hurting and terrified numb when she closed her eyes. "Robot hellhound. I need my sword. Or at least my pugio. Gods, my, ugh," Her words has been strained, but at the end she was breathing faster and the words were coming more slowly. She collapsed onto the cot again, sucking in air as pain ran through her like a horde of angry centaurs.

She felt her right flank, it was wet and sticky, actively bleeding again. Her mind seemed vaguely detached from the fact that it was indeed her own blood. "That needs a fresh bandage. Can you hand me a bandage? I need to bandage this wound before someone bleeds out." Her voice was still ragged, and the words forced, but through pain, every few seconds. It didn't hurt as much lying flat and don't take as much effort either. She could slowly feel the nectar working, but it was taking forever.

Kiera raised an eyebrow at the paradise comment, the only indication that she found the joke amusing. The daughter of Pax shifted her weight to her other foot as her expression changed into that of concern. Through her shirt, Kiera noticed the bright red liquid that probably shouldn’t have been so bright at this point, which meant that the blood was fresh. She was having trouble sitting up too. The arm buckled indicated that the patient was weakened - well, obviously, she had just said that she was attacked by a robot hellhound. That was never good. Kiera then scoffed at the ridiculous request for weapons. “No.” Well. She didn’t sugarcoat anything.

Internally, she was slightly panicking. She didn’t remember much from any classes on first-aid besides “Check to make sure the scene is safe” and “Apply gloves”. The infirmary seemed decently safe and she couldn’t find any gloves, otherwise she would have been wearing them as she passed out delectable food choices. “What? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Just a sec.” Kiera nodded and went to search for some bandages. At first, she had no idea where to look. There were too many drawers and cabinets and boxes...then her eyes locked on someone who looked somewhat like a doctor grabbing an ace bandage from a drawer. She rushed over there and dug through it, retrieving an ace bandage and some gauze, then hurried back over to the girl on the bed. “I’m guessing you know what you’re doing. Do you work here or something?” Yes, small talk was good to distract the injured. It made sense. Applying the bandage would be difficult because, again, her knowledge on dressing wounds was limited. She knew that it shouldn’t be on too tightly, but tight enough so that the wound could stop bleeding. She should have taken more notes on this stuff.

"Third Cohort Healer." Leandra said, looking at the ace bandage and gauze. "I can't wrap that lying down...what about tape? Cloth tape? Foam tape?" She asked, though she took some of the bandages and opened then, pressing them hard against the laceration that had opened up. It hurt like fire licking the inside of a knife punching you repeatedly. "Or hold manual pressure. Ten to twenty minutes."

Leandra grimaced as she held the bandages against her side. But even though it looked like her body, and she could feel the pain in her body, it didn't register in her mind like it was her body. She couldn't explain why. "You're not a healer, are you?"

Kiera raised her eyebrows this time and nodded in admiration. Wow, a healer of the Third Cohort? Hopefully this healer wouldn’t mind if Kiera winged it...or better yet, maybe she could talk her through this. Wait. That’s sort of what she was doing. Kiera immediately jogged back to the drawer in search for some of the tape the healer was talking about. She dug around, mentally categorizing all of the stuff that she ran into. Band-Aids, alcohol prep pads, unicorn draught, gloves, suture kit, tiny scissors, yarn, more unicorn draught, smiley-face stickers, more unicorn draught. Gods, why aren’t we using this unicorn draught anyway? Kiera thought, eventually running across an empty roll of cloth tape and still no source of foam tape. She cursed. That was a complete waste of time.

She hurried back over to the patient with a look that was supposed to come across as calm, but instead looked pissed off. “Looks like we’ll have to rely on manual pressure.” Kiera stated bitterly, squatting down again. She opened  one of the lunches that were supposed to be getting passed out and retrieved a cheesestick, angrily eating it without peeling. Her first few minutes as a nurse and now someone was possibly on the verge of dying. “Is it that obvious?  I might as well stick a sign on my head.” She mumbled the last part, trying to focus on both the bleeding of the girl in front of her as well as the next wave of patients coming in. “I’m Kiera. Of the Second.”

Leandra grit her teeth instead of chuckling at the obvious comment. "Leandra." She replied, keeping a firm grip on the bandage, which was slowly saturating, but luckily not quickly saturating. "Can you hold this better? Firmer. It's okay if the pressure hurts. You can't be shy about hurting someone a little in order to save them. And raise the lower extremities to prevent shock. Carefully with the injured leg, or lots of screaming."

After dealing with some person stuff, Gunther-Klaus came into the field hospital where Leandra and the rest of the victims were positioned. He had in his hand Leandra's stuffed minotaur, hopefully this would help the healing process in some way. He saw her with Kiera and smiled, walking over to the patient with her plush creature behind his back. "Salve, Leandra. Look at what your favorite German brought you." The son of Veritas pulled out the minotaur from behind his back, holding it up to his face. "It's me! You're stuffed animal that you love so much!" He tried to do a voice for the minotaur, but sort of failed.

“Leandra. That’s better than me just calling you ‘Patient’ in my head.” She attempted to make a joke, but feared that her tone might have dwindled when she saw the bandage slowly getting damper with more blood. She was told to press the bandage against her side despite the pain it might cause, but still she hesitated. Kiera knew Leandra was a healer and all, but the idea of causing someone else pain made her uncomfortable. Alas, she had to do what she had to do. “Right. Lift the legs, firmly hold.”

Kiera snatched up a pillow that wasn’t in use and very, very gently beneath Leandra’s legs. It was then when she noticed how mauled to death one of her legs actually was, and to be completely honest the daughter of Pax threw up a little in her mouth. She turned away and placed the pillow in such a way that it supported her legs by her ankles without exactly fully touching the injured portion. “Okay, is this good? I could put another one under you knees, too, if that’d be more comfortable.” She then proceeded to brace herself before sitting all the way down on her bum and having her hands hover right above the wound on her side.

“One...two...three!” As soon as she hit three and held down the bandage, some wacko pranced into the infirmary with a stuffed minotaur. Kiera peeked over her shoulder with a bewildered expression. He introduced himself as Leandra’s “favorite German” then proceeded to do a poor imitation of a minotaur. She darted her eyes to the younger girl. “You…do know this guy...correct?”

There was screaming when Kiera moved Leandra's leg, although like many times, the whole daughter of Angerona thing kicked in and the soul crushing scream made no sounds at all. Her eyes nearly rolled back in her head from the pain, though, she saw spots. It was torture like she had never experienced, and then, it wasn't as bad, it dulled back to the throb that let her recover some of her mind. She took a few deep breaths. Then in pain in her side. And....Günther?

Having someone to distract her from the fact that her pain had just doubled was probably a very good thing. She blinked a couple of times at the German, trying to comprehend what she was seeing. "Toby?" She asked, her voice hoarse. It was weird, seeing the minotaur, she was certain it would have been damaged in the fight, but it didn't seem any worse for the wear except some dirt. "My hands are bloody."

Günther cringed when he saw Leandra be in so much pain. It was honestly killing him inside. The male Roman glanced up at Kiera. "Yes she does. You should know me to. We sparred once a couple of months ago." Günther looked back at Leandra and took the minotaur off from in front of his face and placed it beside her arm. "How are you holding up, Leandra?"He asked, taking a seat beside her.

Kiera risked a glance up at Leandra's face as she moved her leg and quickly looked back down to the bandages. She wasn't prepared to see such a horrified expression. Some may say that it sounded stupid considering she was in the infirmary, but again she was just here to pass out lunches. We've been over this. There were other things to tend to, like the bandages she had to keep on Leandra's side, the constant reminders in her head that nagged at her to replace the bandages soon, and the German guy that was still holding a minotaur apparently named Toby.

She looked back to the guy with a raised eyebrow, then nodded. "Oh, yeah, yeah. I remember you now." She did not remember him now. Like, his face looked familiar and maybe they really did spar a few months ago. However Kiera preferred her blunt arrows and wasn't too good at sparring; most of her memories of doing such were purposely deleted from her mind. She scooted over to allow him more space to sit, simultaneously pressing more bandages to Leandra's side as the blood began to seep through the first set. She could feel her calming aura begin to magnetize towards the two demigods, but had doubt that it would relax either of them. "She has a minotaur named Toby." Kiera mumbled to no one in particular. She just needed to get that off her chest.

Leandra grunted at Günther when he asked how she was holding up. "Peachy keen. Kind of numb feeling. I need to be up helping these people..." She didn't try to sit up this time, but shot a look down to where Kiera was holding the bandage. "But I bleed every time I try to move."
