under the shadow of a large oak tree sat a girl. the sun blasted a ray of light onto her, as if she was a divine being. that was definitely not what this girl was though. her legs sat outstretched in front of her; her back resting on the thick trunk of the massive tree. black combat boots and dark ginger colored straight-fit pants adorned her legs. for her upper body, she was outfitted with a black training shirt which was covered by a heavy yet slim crimson-colored hooded sweatshirt. her chestnut hair was draped around her face, acting as a curtain that revealed her closed olive pit eyes, petite nose, and pale pink lips. the girl had a look of tranquility slapped onto her face. it was rare for her to feel this way. why did she though? there was no reason to be.

every so often the wind would come around and rush through her hair, but it always reverted back into the place it was fashioned to a few seconds before. deep breaths let the air cleanse her lungs and helped clear her mind. it was rare for nadia to have these rest days. days where she would not train at all. she would spend her whole day in solitude and take in her surroundings and nature. it somehow helped her release all the anger that she managed to build in between these days of simplicity.

nadia felt refreshed. her muscles felt at ease for once, which was an absolutely amazing experience. the demigod was used to them being constantly sore and in pain thanks to non-stop, brutal training. it was on days like these that the demigod felt the strongest. she refused to let the strength be leeched from her though. she let it concentrate inside of her and help repair possible sprains and tears. sometimes the daughter of ares wished that every day could be like this. that was impossible though. there was always training to be done and fights to be fought. there would never be true peace in nadia's world, and she had to come to terms with that fact.

The forest was an odd location to Dimitri. The vastness and thickness of the trees made it feel so much more authentic than anything else he'd ever seen before. It was certainly a wondrous sight in some aspects, though Dimitri had been warned that going deep enough would offer creatures much less friendly than Nymphs and Satyrs. He'd never gone to the areas of the forest that had such dangers in them though, he knew better than that, especially without any combat training. He tended to stick to the safe parts of the woods, which still, were somewhat odd for him. It's where capture the flag took place, which Dimitri had yet to even attempt to master. While the forest served as a reminder of capture the flag, he also couldn't help but let it serve as a reminder of home. He couldn't wait to see the old forests back home again, even if they weren't as magical.

Dimitri wore jeans, they were of a darker blue color, though they'd somewhat faded over time, but hadn't torn. He also wore a long-sleeved baize snap-button shirt with the top two buttons not done and the sleeves rolled up. And he wore a pair of baize boots too, it was rare that he wasn't wearing boots. You'd sooner see him barefoot than in sneakers or sandals. His dark brown hair was pretty well kept today, for a change, though he never payed too much mind to his hair anyway. His walk through the forest was nothing more than to kill time and remind himself of home just a little bit. So long as there weren't nymphs left and right, anyway.

It wasn't long until he nearly walked into someone, they were sitting, and he nearly tripped over their leg. Luckily, he manage to stop himself before his foot touched her at all, he'd been too busy thinking while walking to ever realize there was a person. He took a look at her for a moment, he knew he'd seen her plenty of times doing combat training. He just didn't know if she was a child of Ares or Athena. "Oh, I'm sorry." Dimitri said, he was only near two feet away from her before he'd noticed her there. "I hope I'm not bothering anythin'."

the sound of movement to her right causes nadia's eyes to shoot open. her vision was a bit splotched with black dots from having her eyes closed for so long, but after blinking a few times she could see clearly once more. she watches from the corner of her eye as the being approaches her. it was a humanoid figure, thank goddess. nadia really wasn't in the mood to have to fight a monster. sure, she would kill one if she was forced to, but she wouldn't really enjoy it as much as she usually did. as the person comes closer, the details come into better focus. nadia particularly notices a masculine frame, which gave away the being's gender, and what he was wearing: a snap-up shirt along with pants and boots. maybe a son of demeter, or maybe athena.

the boy appeared to be lost in his thoughts as he makes his way towards nadia. it was soon enough that he stopped right in front of her, somehow managing to not fall on his face. before nadia could move or anything, the boy starts spurting words out of his mouth. words that should be never uttered by a demigod. words such as "sorry" and "hope". the girl slowly turns her head so her black-hole eyes meet his. he looked vaguely familiar, but nadia couldn't put a pin on who he was. he most likely was just a guy who happened to be in one of the same classes as her. her mouth was flat, and her eyes showed a sign of disapproval, as she continues to glare at the boy.

"well you are hoping over nothing. you are bothering me now," the girl growls at him. just because it was a rest day didn't mean that the girl was all happy-go-lucky and nice. no, nadia was still her sour old self. she was hoping that the tone in her voice would deter the boy so she could be left alone once again. maybe he was one of those people who actually listened to others and did what they said. probably not. he was probably the type of person to try to convert other people into being optimistic and happy all the time. if he was, nadia would not think twice to pick a fight. the girl never turned down a brawl.

She'd looked somewhat relaxed when he'd approached her, but that quickly changed. Her facial expression turned into a glare towards him, and he was suddenly a lot less comfortable then previously. The glare wasn't an ordinary one that could go unnoticed, it was like daggers were coming from her eyes, it looked as though she could get up at any moment and be ready to strike. She wore clothes like she was getting ready to fight a tournament, no armor, but that only meant there was nothing weighing her down. He had a pretty good idea why she spoke so confidently for a reason.

She didn't look all that tall, nothing like a tower anyway. She even looked pretty slim. But still, she was just outright intimidating when she spoke. Her words came out as very agitated, and Dimitri's brow was raised. On one hand, he wasn't very fond of the idea of this escalating. He wasn't big on confrontational events, but he also didn't like being pushed around. On another hand entirely, he didn't know much about combat, and even if he was ready to fight, he was certain this was a fight he'd lose.

"Relax, it was a mistake." Dimitri said, his tone was one that attempted reasoning, however, he wasn't so hopeful that it was going to work. "I didn't expect to see anyone here. On days like today, the forest is usually pretty empty."

nadia closes her eyes once more and takes in a deep breath, letting it out as a sigh. why did some people here have to be so stupid? did she look approachable? she hoped not. the demigod slowly lets her eyes open and gives the boy an analytic glance. he was tall and appeared to be limber, but there didn't seem to be much muscle present in his body. he most likely wasn't a fighter either, or else he would've have almost tripped on her feet. taking in another deep breath, the girl begins to speak.

"i was relaxed, but not anymore thanks to you," the girl grumbles. she was now sitting with her knees raised, her legs ready to support her weight in case a fight was to break out between herself and the boy. "and that's why i'm here; because no one else is," she adds, her voice sounding a tad bit softer than before. maybe she had acted too mad towards him. it wasn't his fault that he didn't see her right? no, it totally was his fault!

Dimitri wasn't quite sure how to respond, he was quickly thinking that the best solution was simply to walk away. Another whole part of him wanted to ask her just what her problem was, but he was pretty sure that kind of confrontation was going to land him a bloody face. He just felt like he was at a crossroads at the moment. The smarter choice was to simply walk away, avoid whatever could come up. Unfortunate for Dimitri, he was much more book smart than street smart.

Dimitri's expression remained fairly neutral while he looked at the girl. He was slightly ticked off and also a good part curious. Having let curiosity get the better of him, he didn't walk away. "Well, I didn't mean to interrupt. Haven't other people walked by before?" Dimitri asked, he wasn't near bold enough at the moment to ask what she was doing out there at the moment.

as the boy attempts to start a conversation with her, nadia keeps her glare positioned towards the boy. after he finishes his 'speech', nadia remains quiet for a few seconds. she wasn't sure how she should react. usually her vocal tones and dagger glares were enough to scare people away. the girl wasn't used to people pursuing a conversation with her. she didn't really even know how to react, hence her quietness. after a short moment or two, the daughter of ares pushes her cocoa colored hair behind her ears and softens her glare a bit. with an almost defeated sound, the girl starts to speak.

"yes, but none of them actually tried to start up a conversation with me, which i'm glad for. why would you want to?" her voice sounded much more at ease that it had moments before. the change of mind that occurred in the girl's head a few seconds back was odd for her. usually she stuck to her guns and remained as harsh as she could manage to be. maybe it was because she hadn't actually done anything that a typical ares child did during their normal day today. she hadn't gotten into a fight with anyone, taken her anger out on dummies, nor cursed and jeered at any kids. that may sound like a normal day for most people, but it was the complete opposite for nadia. she was a daughter of ares. she was created to be cold and cruel. someone needed to do it in the world, and that was her.

It was an interesting question, why would he want to talk to this person for even a second more than he had to? He didn't let it linger in his mind, the answer was already obvious to him. However, he still remained uncertain. Sure, on one hand, she seemed at ease much more than she had moments before, but she still looked like she could pick him up and throw him. Even with the somewhat softened glare and voice, he still wasn't so confident that it was a good idea to press further, but even still, he knew he was going to anyway, confident or not in the situation. Dimitri simply nodded his head to her question.

"Well, there's lots of reasons." Dimitri said. "It's just how I am. I'd try to talk to anyone I saw sitting in the forest- of course, not with the intention of interrupting them, just with the thought that we'd talk." Dimitri continued on, though he wasn't sure if he was trying to prove anything or not, perhaps he was simply being stubborn in the moment. "Is there any reason I wouldn't try?" Dimitri asked, aware of the probability that the answer wasn't going to be a pleasant one. He had, after all, interrupted her in the first place.

why was he still talking to her? didn't she make it clear that she didn't want to be part of this conversation? nadia didn't know whether she should hit him or not. if she did, it could go two ways: she could scare him off, or he would ask her why she hit him. the answer to her question seemed like it would be the latter, so the demigod refrains herself from doing so . . . for now. a look of annoyance was portrayed on the girl's face as she listens to the boy sputter words. he didn't seem to shut up. since when was it okay to randomly strike up conversations with people you didn't know? nadia never thought that it was a normal thing to do, but it must be for this kid. he seemed right at home while talking her ear off. once again, the demigod lets out a sigh, trying to give the boy a subtle hint that she did not want to keep this conversation going. the only issue with that was that she felt oddly obliged to answer him. okay, so she would just brush him off with her words. that was a good plan.

"why would you talk to me of all people? i'm a stereotypical daughter of ares who is cruel and mean and can't change," as soon as the words exit her mouth, nadia covers he mouth with her hand. that was stupid to say! now he would probably be even more curious about her! without warning, the demigod jumps up to her feet and starts to briskly walk away. she was done with this conversation and done with this boy. she had messed up and didn't want to face the consequences.

Dimitri was curious, he still wouldn't deny it. Sure, this girl was not kind, friendly, or anything of the like. She didn't hold any desire for friendship or conversation, she made that clear, with her sighs and that look on her face. Still, they were somewhat subtle signs, they weren't blunt. And Dimitri oddly respected that to some degree, it almost made him want to apologize and walk away. But it was at that moment that she spoke, and Dimitri took interest in her words. Part of it spoke to him, and he wanted to pursue that, but he knew better than to chase after her and try.

Talking to her while she was around was one thing, but chasing after her wasn't the right thing to do. If she wanted to be away that badly, he wasn't above forcing himself to be around her. Of course, that didn't mean he wouldn't run into her again at some point. It also didn't mean he wouldn't attempt to get her to stay, even if just for a little longer.

"Can't change?" Dimitri remarked, while he watched her stand up and start walking. She was pretty quick, too. "Why would you think anyone would try and make you change?" Dimitri asked, nearly calling after her. Sure, she seemed sort of cold hearted and aggressive, but she was subtle about it. She could have been far worse, and despite all that had happened thus far, Dimitri didn't consider her a bad person in any way.

the words make nadia stop dead in her tracks. she turns her head ever so slightly so that she could see him behind her out of the corner of her eye. a mixture of emotions were being thrown around in her head as if her brain was replaced by a miniature twister. she felt hatred, but she also felt hints of thing such as despair and longing. emotions that shouldn't be present in her mind but were. the demigod takes in a deep breath before turning her self fully around to face the boy, who seemed to be dangerously curious about her. she was a time bomb that was about to go off at any moment; why would he be curious about that? why didn't he want to run away like everybody else? this made nadia extremely curious herself about the boy. he was different than other people who have encountered her. all of those people took one look at her and either sped up their pace or completely turned around. this boy's reaction was the complete opposite of that.

"why would they not want me to change? have you seen me? i'm not some petty little girl who enjoys picking flowers and eating ice cream," as she talks, nadia starts walking back towards the boy, eventually standing a few feet in front of him, her gaze turned slightly upward so her eyes meet his. her eyes still held their cold sheen and her lips held flatly together, giving her an unamused look. the demigod's hands were subconsciously balled up in fists, but hanged down by her thigh. she wasn't ready to punch this guy just yet.

He was pretty certain that she was going to just keep walking, but surely enough, she turned around, and she looked even more displeased than she had the whole rest of the conversation, if you would call it a conversation, anyway. Dimitri suddenly felt as though he had something to prove to this girl, and he was really stubborn on that subject. It was odd, he didn't even know her name, much less why he was here talking to her. He was aware of one thing though, he was risking being hit every time he opened his mouth to speak. He wasn't afraid of being hit, but he wasn't looking forward to it stinging. Even still, he didn't back away, or walk away, he was all in at this point, even if he wasn't entirely sure why.

"You don't need to be like that, or like that stuff." Dimitri said, as his rebuttal. "Yeah, you get irritated. And I'm pretty sure if you hit me right now, I'd be on the ground bleedin'. But that doesn't mean you need to be changed, it doesn't make you a bad person." Dimitri nearly protested instead of stating. He awaited a response, whether it be an attack or more words. He wasn't exactly sure how it happened, he'd simply crossed a girl in the woods and let it escalate to this level.

a cruel smile churns on the girl's face as she listens to the boy answer her. he was stupid and most likely trying to be just another "chivalrous" camper. he spoke with such a sound of optimism that it made nadia feel sick. how could someone be such a good person? he hadn't retaliated to the girl in any physical or bad mental way yet, which was actually much to her surprise. the daughter of ares places her thumb on her chin and gives the boy skeptical look.

"you're stupidly brave; asking to get punched by a child of ares. i like that," the words flowed ever so smoothly from the demigod's mouth as she spoke, it almost seemed like she as a villain from one of those movies who had everything under control no matter what. "the only issue is, you look weak. sure, you appear to have natural young man muscle, but nothing out of the ordinary. you don't look like a fighter. you should change that. the combination of bravery and combat skills will get you far in life here." with that, nadia walks past him, purposely slamming her shoulder into his. to be honest, the girl was somewhat hoping that the boy would follow her. he intrigued her. he looked like he had potential. maybe it was more than that though. nadia didn't have any friends at camp. maybe that's what she was searching for. could that be what she saw in this guy? a friendship? no, it couldn't be. nadia couldn't roll that way. she simply couldn't.

Dimitri didn't feel like he'd gotten his point quite across, but still, from how she spoke, it almost felt like they'd reached some sort of resolution. As though the lingering hostility he'd felt towards him had lessened to a degree. He acknowledged in his head that she'd just called him weak, but she'd also called him brave. Dimitri figured that was her distant way of saying he had potential, in some foreign way, it was a compliment. The words and the meaning of them didn't seem so matched to Dimitri for the first time since they began talking.

When the girl slammed into him, it was clear that it was meant to be hard, and not playful. It confirmed to Dimitri that she was definitely strong, it was as though a boulder had hit him, just condensed into the size of a person. Even still, he couldn't help but smile afterwards. It might not have been the idea resolution, but it worked out, in a way. Still, only a split moment passed before it all registered in his mind. He was trapped in uncertainty whenever he wasn't in camp, because if a monster ever attacked, he'd be gone. If he became strong, he'd be able to stand up for himself against the monsters that roamed the world. He'd be able to live instead of hiding.

Dimitri immediately began pacing again, towards the girl. With only two words in mind, he made his request. "Teach me."

once the words spill out of the boy's mouth, a legitimate smile breaks out on nadia's face. she stops dead in her tracks and looks back at him, waiting for him to catch up with her. the girl could definitely make some fun out of this; plus, it gave her something to do besides personal training. she was confident in herself that she could make this guy into a fighter and not a lover. once the boy catches up to her, the demigod glances over to him, then picks up her pace. she was actually quite excited for this. she got to train, which she loved, as well as actually be with another person. on the inside, nadia was just a lonely individual. maybe that was why she was so cold for the most part. that didn't matter now though, she had a job to do and she would do her best to be a great instructor.

"first step of training: cardio. you need to teach your body how to perform well even when it is oxygen deprived. it may seem like torture at first, but resistance comes with time. soon enough, a few miles should feel like nothing to you. step two will be your eating habits. you want to eat a lot of food that is high in carbs an hour or so before training. any other time you will want to eat a balanced diet, of which the main staple are fruits and vegetables. step three will be hitting the weight room everyday so you can keep muscle instead of losing it over time. once you get nice and fit, then you can begin your combat training. you can find a weapon that works for you and i can teach you how to use it efficiently. does that sound like a good plan to you? it better." her voice was calm and collect as she talked, as if she had years of practice, which she did. the only thing different about this was that she was teaching somebody else and not herself.
