A quick summary: Adan didn't know what was going on and Malecai knew exactly what was going on. Malecai went by the Hephaestus cabin that morning to pick Adan up for brunch with Marina and a girl named Nadia. Upon arrival, Adan asked a few questions as to why the son of Athena was dressed so nicely and Malecai ignored all of them and instead hailed a taxi to take them to Penelope in New York. It wasn't as crowded inside as Malecai thought it would be, which was good because the less people to see him out in public with the mountain of a man beside him the better. Malecai walked over to the hostess and smiled kindly as he spoke.
"Table for four, please? Two more people will be arriving shortly." He looked back at Adan, who was currently messing with the pictures on clothes pins near the door, and rolled his eyes. Malecai should have pretended to be in love with that happy Apollo kid. When he turned to the hostess, she had a knowing look on her face.
"Oh, is this your guy pal?" She mused. Malecai stared at her strangely. Did she just make a male-version of the term "gal pal"? Oh gods, this would be a longer "date" than he thought. Instead he checked to make sure Adan wasn't listening before leaning in to the hostess.
"No, actually, he's my...boyfriend. We've been dating for a year now." He whispered. He nearly vomited at the idea of being boyfriends with Adan. He did, however, enjoy the look on the hostess' face when he said the term. Her eyes darted to the other boy (who was now trying to untangle a clothing pin from his nose ring) and she nodded curtly, leading them to a booth in the corner near a window. She moved the tables together, put down four menus, then began to walk back to her station when Malecai stopped her. "If it makes you feel better, the other people arriving are my ex-girlfriend and her new girlfriend."
"What was that all about?" Adan asked when the hostess quickly walked away. He had gotten the pin from his nose ring and was now looking at the menu with it now tangled in his tuft of a ponytail. He was hopeless. Malecai shook his head and opened his own menu to look at the drinks. "And when will the small angry one be arriving?"
"She probably hates you, who knows." Malecai looked up at Adan when he mentioned Marina and knit his eyebrows together. "Soon. But these are your rules. She comes in, you have to be on high alert. Do. Not. Take. Your. Eyes. Off. Of. Me. Got it? Rule Number Two - No sassing. You can't be distracted from this mission by talking back or else we'll both be dead. Number Three -"
Malecai stopped talking when he heard other voices from the glass behind him. Adan, who sat in front of him, looked at him out of confusion but was shushed. "That's them. Quick, hold my hand."
"What?!" He wanted to protest, but Malecai had kicked his right shin from beneath the table and grabbed his hand by force. "Son of a -"
"Oh hi, how are you ladies doing?"
