    A Waterfall - Page 38 Empty Re: A Waterfall

Post by Steve Rogers 2/21/2013, 8:09 pm

I shuffled my feet rather awkwardly. "Oh, uh... Hey," I said with a rather reluctant tone. How long had it been since I'd spoken with her? Gosh, at least six months. I think it was either when she came to visit me (in my apartment after I went sort of rogue) or the hospital for the infected burns I got. I bit my lip nervously. I wasn't exactly thrilled to see her, I mean, the last time we spoke, I'd gotten a pretty clear message that she hated me and never wanted to speak with me again, or something along those lines. Sufficient to say, we got off on the wrong foot.

Jeeze, I haven't even thought about her in like three months... Not her, not Hanson, not Hazel. They'd all made it adamantly clear that I was neither wanted, nor welcomed in their lives, and I wasn't too keen on testing whether or not that still held true.

I ran my hand through my hair, rather awkwardly, not really knowing what to say after six months... Janeway and Toby just barked.

I growled at the person's words, "I choose to give my dogs actual, meaningful names" I repeat. Gods, my dog's name is meaningful so this comment was really starting to annoy me. I ignored the feeling and relaxed back into my previous position to then turn on my computer, breaking the silence and bringing a blue light to my face. I hadn't realized how cold it was until my teeth were chattering. I muttered to myself "Gods, I haven't felt this cold since I ran away that night." My numb fingers continued to tap the keys to enter lines of code.

Nix looked around, alarmed on the intruding voice. She hadn't noticed it before, and her hand quickly flitted to her charm bracelet, which was now an obvious disguise of her weapon. She really couldn't remember much about Noonian. It was hard to. There were too many painful memories for her, and she somehow always managed to get rid of them. "Noonian is one of your friends here or something?" She asked, still looking around. She liked going to the forest, but she was often paranoid if there are any monsters around. Her long coat reached to her knees, and it was very loose. Inside it had wool, so it kept her very warm. She had managed to find in a thrift shop. She didn't mind the stains on the green fabric, but it was easy to movie in. The wind blew even more harshly, and it greatly stung her eyes. They became even more watery, that she had to close them for a few seconds, but a tear escaped, and she had to wipe it away with her coat.

"What friends?" I asked with a smirk. But I quickly shook it away. "Ah, no. I don't know who she is. But she's annoying and rather spiteful," I told Nix. I bit the inside of me cheek. She looked cold... but I doubted it was really my place to act all "good samaritain,"

"You just met her?" She asked him, knitting her eyebrows upwards. "Man, I already feel bad for you," She told him, bluntly.

"What do you mean?" I asked, crossing my arms, a little then you. "Well I feel bad for YOU! I mean, you're the one sitting here, shivering in the cold. What are you doing here, anyways?" I asked.

I close my laptop and put it away in my bag. I draw out my knife that slightly shone in the dark. I was very irritated about the fact I could not see them and that spiteful remark. I would see how this would play out below me.

"Hey! There's nothing wrong with being out in the cold. I meant I felt bad for you that you had some girl here irritating you to no end. Jeez," She said.

I shuffled my feet. "I-I-I... I didn't mean that as an insult... I was just wondering because you looked awfully cold, and, I mean, it's freezing out, even I don't want to be here, but the stupid dogs made me and-" Oh gods, it was off to a bad start already. And now, here I was, rambling on about who knows what.

"I don't like being cooped up inside," She interrupted him. "Anyways, I guess I was kind of upset and needed to take a walk," She said, shrugging.

"I wouldn't call it being upset. Wrong choice of words. It just feels weird not being with Hanson anymore," She said, not being any secretive about her status. "Oh well. I shouldn't depend on others," She said, clenching and unclenching her fingers, to prevent them from being utterly numb.

"Er-I feel awfully guilty what I have done in the past, and I just want to apologize," Nix sweated, it was hard even to mention her name. She hated what this had done to her.

Nix brushes her blonde hair back, biting her lip. "Do you want to go eat with me at the mess hall?" She asked him rather awkwardly. The girl tilted her head, quite comically, her eyes studying Noonian, hoping he'd come. She rocked on her heels, waiting for Noonian to either say yes or no, as a bird cawed in the background.

I chewed on my cheek, unsure how to respond. For one thing, the history that Nix and I had was a rather rocky one; filled with trials and rough patches. Before this, the last time Nix and I had spoken, we ended up screaming at each other. Hazel always acted as a buffer between us, and now that she wasn't here...

But at the same time, I can remember a time when Nix and I were best friends.

In all honesty, I was terrified of her. And I was terrified of the outcome. But, my stomach, as usual, was the one who dictated my action, and I nodded. "Sure, why not?"

    I leave.
