Jasper's head came up and he looked Maap in the eye. It'd been a long while since he'd made eye contact with anybody and he instinctively wanted to lower his head again and slink away. "It's none of your business who my godly parent is," he snapped. On edge, he wondered briefly if he should unsheathe his sword. The other guy could kill him in an instant.

Jasper tensed up. Was the guy just messing with him or what? His eyes darted from one to another, giving him the look of a trapped animal. Too many sleepless nights left him drained, and the shadows under his eyes betrayed that. Very slowly, he nodded, still without speaking.

Jasper hated it when people talked like he wasn't there. Like he couldn't understand just because of his emotional issues. He glared ahead without really seeing anything.
