I reach the wall at the end of the library, almost running into a shelf. I sigh and set the books down on the floor, biting my lip. My gaze transfers from the books to the bookcase, and back again. There has to be somewhere...
My gaze stops at the bookshelf, and I look up. Above the top of the shelf, a single plank of wood from the ceiling is beginning to come loose. There's no light shining through the gaps in the ceiling, so maybe...
I pick up the books and step up on the first shelf. It creaks and sags, but doesn't fall. I place the books up on top of the bookshelf, and continue to climb up the other six shelves, constantly looking behind me to make sure that no librarians or campers can see me. I reach the top of the shelf, and have to stand on my toes to reach the plank. I pull it down to form a type of ramp. It almost falls the way an attic door does. I pick up my books, and slip inside, pulling the shelf up behind me.
Its not as dark up here as I thought it was. Light shines in through dust covered windows, allowing me to see the old wooden floor and the ceiling that slowly rises up to a point. There's piles upon piles of items covered in tarp and cloth, chairs litter the floor, mostly broken or slashed. Books are everywhere, some old, some very, very old.
There's one chair among the debris the seems to glow. Its an old dust-covered arm chair that's almost completely covered in darkness in the back corner of the room. A small gas lamp sits on an old aging table , and a stack of something that looks oddly like weapons and shields sits covered by a white cloth beside the red chair.
I move towards the chair and sit down, turning so my body is parallel to the back of the chair, my legs slung over one arm. I open the small drawer in the table and search around in the dark for what feels like a box of matches. I find what I'm looking for and open the box. I light one of the six in the box, and place the match inside the lamp. It sends a glowing light to illuminate the room around me.
I pick up one of the books and begin reading.
