Prologue for novel ( number II) Empty Prologue for novel ( number II)

Author's note: I truly wish to receive feedback from anyone who reads this, however, if by any reason one has nothing positive to say or any form of constructive criticism, please don't leave behind rude and unappreciated comments. Thank you.

    Prologue

It all begun with the fall of the titan of the west.  Centuries ago, the United States of America evolved into what became known as the American Empire. Although the United States was already a large state on it’s own, it’s lust for power and ambitions of expansions galvanized it to create a world monopoly on the ending reserves of petroleum and oil of the world by extorting the Middle Eastern Confederacy, with the threat of nuclear deployment on their soil if they refused to hand over their supplies of oil over to the United States. With the possession of the last remains of oil in the world, the United States of America cemented its position as the last superpower of the Old World and begun the largest expansion project on history. The first to fall to the tyranny of the United States was once one of it’s closest allies, Canada. Without putting much defense, Canada became a province of the United States in less than three weeks. Much of it’s culture and history were destroyed and americanization made sure that the few remaining traces of Canada were destroyed and replaced with the ideals and culture of the United States.

One by one, the former allies of the United States were forced to become provinces of the growing United States. With Canada’s annexation, the United States led a second war against Mexico and did what their ancestors failed to do. In less than a week, the United States encompassed the entire western hemisphere of the world be it by extortion or by diplomatic negotiations. Those nations that rejected the United States were eradicated from the surface of the world. Of course, this didn’t mean that the nations of the east failed to notice the threat of what officially became known as the American Empire, but next to the giant that was the Empire, the European Union and the World Communist Alliance were nothing. Only by creating the World Alliance of Euro-Asian-African States, were the nations of the world capable of standing up to the might of the American Empire. Yet, even the combined power of the last remaining independent nations of the world proved capable of barely matching the American Empire’s armies and fleets.

This war between the World Alliance and the American Empire made sure that it would be the last war of the Old Civilization. Entire nations were obliterated and whole mountain ranges were decimated in seconds. Ten years of fighting reduced the once civilized world of men to a sad and empty shell of it’s former glory. No holocaust or genocide matched the number of deaths from both sides and with the stubbornness of ending each other, both sides completely ignored the fact that they had gradually destroyed the world that they were fighting over. Yet, in the end, during the year 2150, the final hounds of war were released and the result was the mutual annihilation of both the World Alliance and the American Empire. With the last two superpowers of the world effectively over, the survivors of the Final War of the Old Civilization were left homeless, powerless and above all trapped in loneliness. Attempts were made to recreate some of the former nations of Earth, but alas, these infant nations of the apocalypse never made it to even their teenagehood. Entire generations of men and women had also been wiped out from the face of the Earth during the Final War and thus population worldwide was low. While the general lifespan of an american citizen before the Final War occurred was well beyond one hundred years of age, during this period of misery and shadows, reaching the age of forty had become a luxury.

This period of history is called the Dark Century, for it took the world exactly one hundred years for it to recover from the wounds caused by the Final War. The Earth became inconsolable and entered a period of distress. It’s heavens shed neverending tears of sorrow and grief after bearing witness to such destruction. The ground gave up on mankind and became sterile so men and women could never again enjoy its fruits. The oceans of the world lost their virginity and became stained with the red blood of men. These all sound like poetic hyperbolic, but while no personifications occurred, a strikingly similar scenario happened. Water became polluted and plagues caused by the airs of bombs wiped out thousands of survivors on a daily basis. The horrors of war also drove a large percent of the remaining humans to insanity and madness. Things like literature, history, science and art faded alongside the Empire and the Alliance. Currency was virtually nonexistent and dialogue amongst the people ceased to exist. For a hundred years, the evils of the world took dominion of the world and shattered all forms of hope. Despair was the only light at the end of the tunnel and the Earth and the Sky and the Oceans weeped.

And yet, this was only a test of the will of men. After a hundred years of suffering and misery,  two light finally presented themselves. The few nations of the world that did rise up to a form of adulthood quickly acknowledged that they would never survive if they didn’t extend their hands to one another. The first three to learn of this truth were the kingdoms of Regia, Erthos and Lumidos, who welcomed each other with spread arms and handshakes of peace. The three monarchs of the three kingdoms selflessly abdicated their thrones and established the first beacon of light of the world in over a hundred years, thus the United Republic of Regnum was formed. Since Regia was the formerly the largest of the three kingdoms, it was decided the United Republic of Regnum’s capital city would be located on the former kingdom entirely. As time passed, more and more nations joined the new republic and a definite form of government was needed to be drafted. Since the United Republic of Regnum rose from three kingdoms, it was decided and welcomed by the people that from the descendants of those three monarchs, the nation’s president would be chosen by means of popular elections during which all the citizens of the Republic cast their votes to see which one of the three descendants would become the President of the United Republic of Regnum. THis was not to say that the other two members of the descendants of the original monarchs would be forgotten, and thus the first body organ of the government was created, the Council, comprised of the elected President of the Republic and the appointed Generalissimus of the Republic and the Primus Arcarius who oversaw the finances of the Republic under a watchful eye. While their were originally three kingdoms that became the original three provinces of Regnum, currently, it is comprised of seven great provinces called the Magna Provinces for they are the second largest division of the Republic after the entire Republic itself, these include Magna Orchales, which constitutes all of the former nations of Europe,  Magnus Doros, which is comprised of the northern conglomerate of territories of Africa under the control of the Republic, Magna Colombia, which is formed of the Southern American nations that stretch from Venezuela to Central America, including Brazil, Magnus Gladio, which is a very important territory for the Republic for it is comprised of the former Imperialistic nation of the United States, and is seen as a prize of the Republic, and Mexico, Magna Slavia, which comprises the entire western half of Russia, Magna Sina, which holds a very slight domain over what was once China, but is mostly comprised of Eastern Russia, and Magna Oceania, which is situated on Australia. Each Magna Province is politically governed by a directly elected Senator, who make up the Grand Senate of the Republic which serves as the legislative branch of the government, while the Council serves as the executive branch. However, since Regnum is so vast, it is impossible for the Senators to actually keep an eye on the Magna provinces and be effective part of the Grand Senate. It is for this reason that the Magna Provinces are further subdivided by the Micro Provinces, which are governed by the elective Praetor or governor who reports directly to the Senator. Inside Regnum, a dual judicial system is enforced, once again a result of the nation’s tremendous size, which is comprised of a marshal law and civil law, where military officers of great rank are given judiciary powers that are only superseded by an appointed Judge, High Judge or Supreme Judge, who are the chief officers of the Judiciary branch of the Republic.

The other brilliant light that ended the Dark Century was the establishment of the Holy American Empire, or simply the Empire. While only slightly younger than the Republic, the Holy American Empire had a vision of completing the mission of the American Empire with the goal of uniting all corners of the Earth into one world empire. The EMpire did not really originate inside the Western Hemisphere, but rather in the former Second United Kingdom of Great Britain. With the hopes of reestablishing the power and glory of the British Empires, the Second United Kingdom of Great Britain had the idea of establishing the Holy British Empire by conquering the provinces and territories of the Republic, and then establish dominance over the Western Hemisphere, which was thought to be nothing but a wasteland and finally establish their idealistic United World Empire. However these ambitions of power and glory were thwarted by the offense of the United Republic of Regnum who maintain a very tight leash fasten around it’s Magna Provinces, thus the ambitions of the Holy British Empire were finished.

Nevertheless, even with their original plan over, the last monarch of the Second United Kingdom of Great Britain ordered the evacuation of her people and the Great Exodus was carried out, thus, Queen Elizabeth III or Queen Elizabeth the Mighty, established their new empire in the ruins of the old and almost uninhabitable United States of America. While the Republic of Regnum had much more sophisticated technology, the Empire had dedication and a stubborn Queen. With both the hands of men and the gears of machinery, the people that moved to America, the future citizens of the Holy American Empire, did something that not even the pompous Republic thought possible, they made the Western Hemisphere once again habitable and prosperous. At this the Republic applauded and congratulated the Empire. With an entire hemisphere under their direct control, the settlers of America proudly declared the establishment of a second American Empire, the Holy American Empire.

From the Western Hemisphere of Earth the Americans established their imperial city of Whitetown on top of the ruins of the old capital city of the American Empire, Washington D.C. as a symbol that they truly were the heirs to the old Empire’s might and glory.  Whitetown was a city of brilliance and splendour that was dotted with skyscrapers of concrete and stone, and the Imperial White Palace standing at the center of the city. Indeed, Whitetown was capable of matching the marvel of the old capital, but sadly, in less than two years after the city was constructed, another capital inside the United States burned down.

Historians fail to come to definite answer as to why the Republic led a series of military campaigns against the Holy American Empire, but most tend to agree that it was most likely the Council’s greed. With their fleets of airships and their vast legions, the Republic laid ruin to the stunning city and deprived it of it’s wealth. Not only was this the most devastating blow the Republic had delivered to the Holy American Empire before, and after, but it also fueled the flames of war to such levels that a global conflict between both nations could have easily occurred. With the sacking of the United States, thousands of men were butchered and their wives were left  ravaged by the barbaric legionnaires. This heinous act on behalf of the United Republic’s leadership even made the people question the morals and virtues of the government, which led to an uprising that forced the President of the Republic at that time, Nero Corialnus Severus, to abdicate from the presidency and led to the rise of the first Denever president, Cicero Primus Denever, who made tremendous efforts of mending the wrongs of his predecessor by signing the Treaty of the United State, which became the strongest promise of the Republic that it would never again commit acts of war and aggression against the Empire or any other diminutive nation of the world, based on the whims and desires of individuals inside the nation. President Denever also managed to convince Emperor Henry XI to permanently grant them authority over the United States, in exchange of the Republic helping the Empire convert Antarctica into a continent that was no longer afflicted by cold weather and ice, but earth, soil and cities. The Emperor was pleased that the Republic was ashamed for what it did and spread their arms in favor of friendship, though the loss of the United States was tremendous, gaining an entire continent seemed to please both the Emperor and the Empire, which is why they agreed to the Treaty.  These terms didn’t heal the wounds of the past immediately, but they did help the healing process. With the machines and technological advances of the Empire and a massive help from the Republic, in both  their own science and even more advanced technology were used, the impossible was made possible and Antarctica was defrosted and converted into the new capital of the Empire with the establishment of the Imperial city of Henwich, named after Emperor Henry XI of the Imperial House of Aciliar himself. In addition, since both nations managed to negotiate peacefully the divisions of land inside Earth, it was decided that those colonies of the Empire that wished to separate themselves from the Empire, could do so and be annexed to the Republic, thus the Magna Province of Novus Colombia came to exist inside the Republic. Both Emperor Henry XI and President Cicero would be remembered as brilliant leaders of their nations and managed to salvage the relationship between the Empire and the Republic by means of diplomacy, arguments and resolutions.  The presidency of Cicero Primus Denever was forever called the Age of Brilliance by the regnumians for it was the period of time when the Republic blossomed into the superpower that it is to this present day. While the reign of Emperor Henry XI is called the Second Golden Age, with the rule of Queen Elizabeth I being the first Golden Age, for it was a time when the Holy American Empire proved it’s maturity and delved from warship, even after they lost their capital city, and embraced words as their primary means of communications.

Both the Empire and the Republic remained allies well after the passing of both President Cicero and Emperor Henry, but sadly, the winds of time blow hard and are slowly, but surely rusting the links between both nations. No one is truly sure whether the Republic or the Empire are true allies or are afraid of each other, but as of now, with the presidency of Torvus Aggripa Severus, and the rule of Emperor Henry XVI reveals that the bond that the deceased President Denever and Emperor Henry the XI are not as strong as they were before, and many fear that if these links are ignored and left to waste away, a global conflict, that would make the Final War of the Old Civilization look like a flaming candle on top of a cake in comparison, could occur.

Thanks for your criticism, and yeah, grammar is not my strong suit, but I try. I really appreciate your review. Remember this is a prologue for the true novel that i am working on.

Also, at the end of par. 4, it's wept, not weeped.

No, this isn't the novel. This is the prologue, without reading this, my readers would have massive question marks hanging from their heads. So I made it easier for them and wrote this. The novel is set in Earth year 2350.

    I know I've said it before, on the previous prologue, but just remember this;
A prologue such as this isn't always necessary. Do you know the full history for Panem in The Hunger Games? That was never included in the books, yet that was incredibly popular.

Sometimes a prologue can bore a reader and put them off. I found it quite interesting, but it is a lot of detail to be putting in one place. I stand by what I said and feel it would be better to split this throughout the actual novel, but again, that is just the feedback I received on my own novel from various critics.

(remember, just my opinion + critics, so its still your work and your choice)

Glad to help. Splitting it throughout the novel can be quite tiresome, and you have to remember what detail you've already provided so can be quite a chore, but it will be easier for the reader, and then it keeps them interested as when the novel unfolds they learn more, so it's a really nice technique. Just, it works best if you're subtle about it. Don't just stop to reveal the information, but incorporate it into that moment. I'm sure you worked that out, so if anyone else reads these comments and tries to do similar, then that's how.

    This is just more info:
Stone, water and air, or in a better case, sea, mountain and sky, these are the defense barriers of the capital province of Orchales. The  Ural mountains once provided a means for protection inside the capital, but due to the advances in technology, they have been rendered white elephants and were reduced to building blocks for the buildings of the province. On the former mountain range now stands a much more advanced barrier, the Corsack mountains, which were made by the scientists of the micro province of Germania in hopes of replacing the Urals. The Corsack mountains stretch high into the sky and surround the eastern side of the capital with it's higher-than airship slopes and summits. The smallest mountains were purposely made to be twice as large as Mt. Everest, with the tallest standing more than five kilometers high. To the south, stands the Mediterranean Sea, an important commercial route between the micro provinces of Europe and the Magna Province of Doros ( North Africa including Egypt and Saudi Arabia) Once again a feet of scientific brilliance of the people of Regnum, thanks to project Oceanus, those people of the Republic who are given authority by the President can control the movement of the waves of the Mediterranean and create vicious maelstroms simply by pushing a button, and coordinating the attack inside a command center of course. The final defense of the capital province is the Spacial Force base that hovers on top of the atmosphere of the planet. The Spacial Force is under the control of the Generalissimus, and is responsible for maintaining the overall security of the Republic. During Project Uranus, the satellites of the republic focus their energy-based weapons and fire volleys of superheated lasers and explosive missiles. Indeed, the counterpart of Project Uranus is Project Terra and is also under the direct control of the Generalissimus. With it, the general of the armies can literally manipulate the stony foundations of the capital and sculpt the landscape as he deems is best during an attack. Lifting palaces, lowering colosseums and folding streets are just some of the things Project Terra can do. At it's strongest, this project can directly control the Corsack mountain and turn them into weapons instead of barriers. Hence why the capital province of Orchales gained the nickname, the ultimate fortress.

The capital province itself is divided into three cities, Regia, the city of politics, Arx, the headquarters of the military, and Erthos, the financial heart of the entire republic. The three cities are all large enough to be considered nations and are considerably wealthier than the other cities of the world, but this fact is unknown to the people outside of the capital province. The main capital city of the Republic is Regia,  which was built on top of five hills called Palantinea, which is where the Presidential District is located, the Capitaleous hill, where the Senatorial District containing the Forum Magnus, Aureum Plaza and Senatus Republicae, the Venarus hill where Supreme Judges meet and discuss judicial matters inside the Domus Iudiciales convocations or where the renown Caelia Nexus Colosseum, the largest and most important colosseum of all Regnum, is located. The last two hills, Demuria and Arcacia where combined into the city  center and the origin  of commerce, shopping and entertainment for the people of Regia. Glistening skyscrapers rise up in a display of strength and power, while the streets are covered with marvelous decorations such as statues and banners signifying the unyielding might of the city and of Regnum. A number of museums, malls and apartments dot the city, all created following the almost imperialistic nature of the nation. Golden bright lights cover the streets and impressive restaurants serving only the most delicious food available. Monuments like arches of glory and coliseums of sports were made to not only entertain and please the citizens, but also to impose a feeling of insignificance towards the foreigners who arrive to the grandiose city. Indeed, if the citizens of the Republic view themselves as equals to the Roman Empire and the American Empire, than Regia is only matched in splendor by the cities of Rome and Washington D.C. Yet given all of it's powerful buildings, the largest structure is not located inside Regia, and even the two kilometer high Senatorial Palace pales in comparison.

The largest structure and building in all of Regnum, and by extension planet Earth, is Arx, the nerve center of the armed forces and military of the Republic. Arx means the citadel in what the Regnumians call the mother language, or latin, hence Arx is a fortress without any sort of competition. The entire thing is separated by any form of vegetation outside, leaving only an empty dessert surrounding it. it is comprised of a monstrous domed building that is so high that people that have seen it comment that it is building that has a set of clouds of it's own. Surrounding the dome in a circular manner, stand proudly the twelve towers, a systematic center of gathering information across the Republic through it's sophisticated communications networks. The towers also act as defense of the already nuclear warhead resistant building for during times of crisis, the towers discharge a barrier of superheated plasma that connect to one another effectively creating a sheet around the fortress's demesne. Arx is made entirely out of a special set of stones craved out from the Ural mountains during the establishment of the republic and have stood undamaged for centuries. yet, Arx is only the exterior of what truly is the city. Inside Arx lies the city of Arx, a palace-complex of twelve palaces each corresponding to the twelve olympian gods of the Ancient Romans, with the Palace of Jupiter standing in the center of the fortress. The Palace of Jupiter is the official residence of the Generalissimus, the General of the Armies and the highest executive officer of the Republic in matters of the military, and also a member of the executive branch the Council, which is comprised by the President, the Primus Archadius, and the Generalissimus. While the citadel is technically under the complete authority of the Generalissimus, it is the palace of Jupiter that hosts his office, his family and his center of activities, including the Grand Military Convocation hall. Inside the palace also lives the Minister of Defense, the second highest ranked officer of the Republic, or the Vice-Generalissimus, who manages the political, judicial and economical aspects of the military. The family of the Minister of Defense also resides inside this palace. Outside of the Palace of Jupiter lies the Avenue of Heroes, where the other eleven palaces are located at the sides of the street look at each other horizontally. The second most important palace inside Arx is the Palace of Mars, where the five legati, or the chief divisional officers of the five branches of the military, Reside. The five legati are the Legatus de las Legions, who is the five-star general of the three hundred legions of Regnum, minus the Prima Legion, the Legatus in spatio vires, which commanders the satellite systems and spaceship fleets of the Republic on the atmosphere, the Legatus in class, which is the supreme commander of the fifteen fleets of ships on the oceans of the world and the officer in charge with the navy of the nation, the Legatus vim aeris, who is the head of the four armadas of fleets of airships of the republic, and finally the Legatus de prima legion, who is the general of the most elite fighting force in all of Regnum, the praetorians, or the first legion. Other palaces inside Arx include the Palace of Minerva, where the Council of Strategists debate the best means of action during combat, the Palace of Mercury, the headquarters of the Department of Central Intelligence, where all the information of the Republic is stored and recorded, the Palace of Vulcan, where the Department of Research and Development of Weapons and Wartime Equipment, creates the best and most advanced weapons, armors, vehicles and tools for the soldiers to use, and the Palace of Phoebus, where the officers of the military enjoy plays, operas and other means of fine arts after they complete their duties for the day. In total their are twelve palaces that correspond to the different departments that are affiliated with the military.

The last city inside of Orchales is Erthos, the financial center of the Republic and where all the economical transactions of the Republic on a large scale are carried out. The people of this city live in a city of golden arches and shining streets, with the Aurem Via, or the Goldne Street, is located and where the center of businesses and money are managed. The most important building inside the city is the Aererarium, the most important bank of the Republic that doubles as the national treasury. Regnum generates an extremely high GPA, but due to the constitutional enforcement of equality that applies to the citizens of the Republic that do not reside the capital province, most live a life of little luxuries. This is not to say that the people of the Republic are poor, but on the contrary all citizens of the Republic enjoy a rather comfortable standard of living where their exists no poverty at all. Yet, inside Erthos, mansions that make the palaces of old France, Spain and Russia look like huts in comparison, are erected, and ostentatious restaurants dot the city. Indeed, Erthos is more lavish than Regia, but is not as grand in terms of architecture.
