Matthew walked into the deadly forest like he did most every day. He climbed up to a tall tree and began to climb. When he had reached about 50 feet or so, he stopped and pulled out his sketch pad. He drew a bear for a little bit, then a young boy canoeing, and soon Matthew began to ret against the tree, listening to the sounds of the forest.

Clinging to the tree as it shook, Tessalia looked down and noticed someone else was in her tree, and climbing. She scrabled further up the tree and looked down at the new person, watching them draw.

Matthew proceeded to draw more things, each time more and more majestic. There was an eagle, a ship, a very detailed map of camp, and eventually he failed while trying to sketch a beautiful mountain range, when he heard a click of a leaf falling next to him. Matthew looked up and saw a girl sitting far up the tree. He tossed the power into his bag and looked up again. "Ho." He said nonchalantly. Wow. Battle school slang. Perfect way to start a conversation.

Tessalia freezes, unsure what to do. Should she run? She'd been seen anyway. Talking was definitely not going to happen. Decision made, she stayed silent pretending not to have heard the drawing boy.

"Be that way." Matthew scoffed and returned to his drawing. "I can tell what you're thinking." He said nonchalantly. "You're wondering if you should run away, but you've already been seen. You've decided to ignore me. Have it your way."

Her eyes widening, Tessalia looked down in fear. Just how much could he tell of her thoughts? "I...it's nothing personal," she says, her voice shaky and quiet, "I just don't really talk much." She shifted on her branch, ready to jump trees if it proved needed.

"I guessed as much. I'm pretty much the same as you, except I try to meet new people. Sorry if that sounded offensive." He said. He looked back up the tree at the girl's expression. "You're probably wondering how I can read your thoughts. Body language."

"That's so..." Lia paused, searching for the best word, preferably one that wouldn't sound too pretentious, "interesting. Are you going to hurt me if I come down?" She asked cautiously.

"I guess." Matthew said. "No, I'm unarmed. I left my bow back at the cabin. Pretty stupid, I'm in the deadly forest. But no, I won't hurt you."

"Y-you promise?" She asks quietly, still wary. Her fingers subconsciously brush over her knife, hidden by the sweatshirt she wears even though its practically summer. She's tense, not quite comfortable around the boy, even though he seems harmless.

"No. Why would I want to hurt you? I'll list the reasons I'm not going to hurt you."
"I'm not a rapist. I'm not perverted. I don't take the "the" out of psychotherapist, I've never killed a person in my lifetime, etc etc etc." He said matter-of-factly.

"Okay then. Can I come down?" Tessalia asked nervously. She didnt't want to intrude, she already felt she had overstayed her welcome in the tree. Conversations just weren't really her thing.

"Sure, come on down." He said. "By the way, my name's Matthew, son of Acheron. What's your name?" He asked.

She smiles slightly and slips down to the branch just above, afraid the weight of two people would snap a branch. "I-I'm Tessalia. Ares."

"Nice to meet you, Tessalia. Do you mind of I call you Tessa? It's easier and quicker." He said.

"I-I guess...I've never really had anyone call me anything before." She glances down, pulling the sleeves of her sweatshirt over her hands and wrapping her arms around herself.

"Why not? Are you antisocial, too?" Matthew asks with interest. Barely anyone except for his cabin mates were antisocial.

"It's nothing," she says quickly, closing up. She turns away leaning on the tree trunk.

"It's okay. A lot of people here are antisocial, it's nothing to be ashamed of. My entire cabin hardly speaks to anyone but themselves." He said.

She lowers her head and starts fiddling with a pebble she brought up. She's nervous, nervous she'll scare the boy off. Any move she makes could be wrong.
OOC: hey hey plot point. could he maybe reach out to comfort her?
