The Mess Hall was fairly empty. The lunch rush hour was over and now the only people in here were the Hypnos children, who fell asleep on top of their sandwich.

Franklin Sheerhan was not one of the people who slept on their sandwich. The son of Hephaestus was wide awake and fully energized. He walked into the mess hall with a granola bar in one hand and a box in the other. Today he was preparing a lesson of anything a certain Lotus Flower Casino guest had missed. Which was a lot, actually. Franklin was only eighteen years old, and the girl missed like, 45 years of it. Franklin is not the best to give her a rundown of what she missed, but he tried.

Kendra Blake was one of the few people Franklin felt comfortable talking to. Which was odd, considering she's almost five times his age. None the less, Franklin sat down at his table, opening the box. The box was just his circuit kit, not for Kendra but for him. He needs to keep his hands busy. The teenager sat at the table patiently, waiting for his friend to come in.

    Once upon another time
Kendra Blake had been in the 21st century for almost a year, and she still liked to dress like it was 1969. It was understandable, to Kendra it should almost be 1970, not 2015. So, yeah, she looked a little dated, but some people liked the “vintage look” or whatever they called it. She still had to work harder at blending in though. Which is probably why Franklin had offered to teach her.

Kendra entered the mess hall, looking around for a minute before spotting Franklin at one of the tables. She sat across from him, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “What’s happening?” she greeted, before pausing and asking, “Do people still say that?” Goodness she sounded like her father. Maybe she should start stories with ‘back in my day...’. How did she go from being hip, to acting like a grandmother who still thinks she’s with it? Well, the answer was pretty obvious. “So, what are we learning today?”

"Kendra." Franklin grinned, standing up as she came to the table. It was the polite thing to do, mind you.

He sat back down and laughed when Kendra addressed him like that. He thought it was extremely hilarious when Kendra says things from the 60's. Normally he would be slightly confused when she talked, but he had recently got a dictionary of the slang words. It's been very helpful. "Hi works as well" he told her.

Franklin lifted up his backpack from the table and took out his laptop. "Today's theme is," he began, typing a few things on the keyboard, "music."

Franklin doesn't really listen to music himself, but it's good for Kendra to learn. Do it for Kendra.

    Once upon another time
Kendra shook her head, “I like my greeting much better.” When Franklin pulled out the computer, she stood up and moved to his side of the table so she could see the screen. Considering she was still using a typewriter back before the casino, you’d expect Kendra to think of computers as witchcraft. Although she understood computers better than she understood pop culture. Maybe it was because she was so used to hearing about new inventions from her father. He worked with scientists and engineers from NASA, at a time where NASA was making amazing things.

Kendra scrunched her nose at the mention of music. “Really? I’m not quite the biggest fan of the music today. At least not the wrapping music or whatever its called. Did I ever tell you my favourite band was The Beatles. They were the big thing at the time. Well, sort of. They were in their decline when I left. I still liked them though. British Rock was really popular at the time. Actually, all things british were. When I was in the U.S. , everyone was complimenting my accent and such. It was weird.”

He grinned, listening to Kendra talk about the 60's was his favorite thing. She sounded like his grandmother, a much younger version of her anyhow.

"I also like your accent," he told her. Franklin agreed with Kendra on the music. Pop songs are not is favorite genre, and that seems to be the only thing on. Franklin pulled up a playlist he made earlier in the week. Yes, he prepares his lessons in the past years Kendra missed. Only the best for her, okay?
"Okay, first off is seventies music. Full of weird, pop and rock music. They also said it was very 'glam'." Franklin pressed the play button and the sound of  Blitzkrieg Bop, by the Ramones echoed through the mess hall.

“Why, thank you. I like your accent as well.” Kendra replied without skipping a beat. She looked away from her friend and focused her gaze on the screen. The beginning of the song gave her a start, the jarring music was something a bit foreign to her. It was like 60’s music on steroids. “Sounds like I missed quite the party.” She commented, a bemused smile taking the place of the startled expression she had shown beforehand.

“What’s next?” She hoped it was something a bit more mellow. It was so handy that Franklin had all those songs collected in his computer. It was so much more portable than record players. And the sound was much clearer. Kendra wished she had something similar before the casino, it would’ve made life easier.

Franklin laughed at Kendra's comment about the song, "If it means anything I missed the party too." Which was a little weird, because she was before the party and he was after. He really likes that though, thinking of the age gap between him and the girl sitting beside him.  It was fascinating, truly fascinating.

Next is the eighties, full discloser that not every song was like this, same with any other decade. It's on shuffle. He pressed play again and Like a Virgin comes on. His mother, Innes liked this song. She was born when the song came out, which is a little weird.
