You're Not that Straight Empty You're Not that Straight

Post by daddeme 1/31/2015, 3:02 am

    16. female. kratos. mysterious.
Name: America Carreno-Cabello, no middle name. She was named by her birth mother, whom loved the name America. Let’s not forget how many cool nicknames she could have, people.
Age: America is 16 years old. She was born on July 11, 1998.
    Gender: Cissexual female; lesbian
God Parent: America’s father is Kratos, god of strength, might, power, and sovereign rule.
Mortal Parent: Jacqueline Carreno-Cabello is America’s birth mother. She works as an airplane and powerplant mechanic, and met Kratos one evening on a bus coming home from work. After a few months of chatting and seeing this man, the two went on a date and, long story short, Kratos left without a word. Jacqueline was left pregnant and alone until America turned two, and she fell in love with a psychologist named Felicia Carreno. The two married and soon became the Carreno-Cabello family.
Country of Origin: The United States of America <3 (To be specific, El Paso, Texas).

    Eyes: Brown
    Hair: Black
Height: America is 5’5”. She says that average height is fine, but it still annoys her that people are still taller than she is.
Body Type: America has an average build that is moderately muscular, especially around her arms, legs, and stomach regions. Most of her muscle is natural, the rest is because she’s freakin’ strong dude.
    Skin Color: Light brown

Personality: America has this tough girl exterior to her, making her sort of reserved and on the unapproachable side. She has snarky comebacks that can make her seem like a know-it-all, though mumbles them under her breath rather than saying them loud and clear. Don’t get her wrong - she can get loud if she wants to, and you don’t want any attention drawn to you if it’s coming from America. She tends to do this when she’s arguing or about to fight someone, making sure everyone can hear her and is looking before she kicks your butt. Somewhere deep down though America’s a cutie and a dork that likes showing off for...certain people. She’s also a softie for her friends, and shows great leadership skills.
Flaws: America is angry most of the time, and many people don’t understand why. She’s also very arrogant, sort of blunt, aggressive, and impulsive. America was diagnosed with minor scoliosis when she was nine, meaning her vertebrate isn’t completely in line.
Abilities (must relate to god parent; optional): Due to her powers, America’s muscular system is thicker and more flexible than average, giving her the ability to support heavier things. This also enhances skills such as walking and running, making her strides longer and hop a little when she walks or jogs. Her speed isn’t so much enhanced as it is constant, though it seems she is going faster even though she’s just jumping subconsciously with each step. To continue, America was given the ability of super strength by her father that was first noticed when she was in the sixth grade. She began lifting things that were out of her range, and the power intensified as she got older. Now, she can comfortably lift things around 200 lbs, such as a refrigerator. She can hold this weight for around 15 minutes, though it gets uncomfortable and really why would you hold a refrigerator for that long. The maximum weight she can handle is 300-350 lbs, which puts extreme stress on her spine. Her spine, because of her scoliosis and it’s lack of demigod-ish alterations, is her weak point when lifting. She must lift with both hands, and the longest she can hold an object out of her range is for around five minutes before she can no longer take the pain.
Powers (must relate to god parent; optional): N/A
    Talents:
MMA- America has been in Mixed Martial Arts classes since she was five years old. She’s competed and won medals and other prizes, though had to give up her hobby when she discovered her strength and was banned from competing ever again.
Finding Patterns- Either mathematically or just seeing common rhythms, her eyes are impeccably sharp for finding things that repeat and overlap. This helps her problem-solving skills, as well as her killer red-white-and-blue fashion sense.
Bilingual- America is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Getting What She Wants- This usually done by threatening (i.e. gripping and annoying mischievous teenage boy by the collar before beating him up harshly) or simply twisting someone’s words into making them work for for her, such as tricking a person into saying something they didn’t mean a certain way.

Pets: America has no pets because apparently it’s illegal to own a bald eagle.
Weapon**: Though she would much rather use her fists, she is very skilled with staffs and spears. She commonly fights with a double-ended spear with Celestial bronze heads. The heads are retractable, and the spear itself usually stays strapped across her back.
Life Before Camp*: America had never seen what the stereotypical fatherless-child would have. Money was never in a critical state, though they had some close calls. She wasn’t emotionally distant or left with some type of disorder. Her mom filled in both of the parent roles until she knew she didn’t have to any longer: the day America was the tiny hobbling flowergirl for her moms’ wedding. The family upgraded from there, moving into a slightly bigger house in an even nicer neighborhood that had houses with the addresses written in that really cool font that’s on cruise brochures and stuff. Felicia was very kind to America, who was treated as her own birth daughter. The young girl grew up in a fully-functional home. It was school that was the problem.
Little girls weren’t supposed to be as muscular and fit as America was. They weren’t supposed to prefer Iron Man over Aurora, or martial arts over “House”. America seriously didn’t let any of that bother her; those kids were lame and didn’t know what they were missing. She still made quite a few friends throughout elementary school, but when she turned twelve she was down to just her best friend (who didn’t really act like a friend when others were around). During class, a few of her best friend’s “other” friends were teasing and throwing things at them from the back of the room. America was the one to speak up in a harsh tone, which led to the teacher sending her to the principal’s office. On the way out, she slammed the door...which shattered the glass window in the center of it as well as broke two of the three hinges. Suspended and afraid, Jacqueline took this time to tell both her wife and daughter what exactly was going on and showing them the thick piece of parchment she received from a hairy little mailman by hand months before this event.
“I didn’t think it’s happen anytime soon,” she argued. “It said that is could happen around twelve, not that it would!” The parchment also included instructions and a map to a place where America would be safer. The sooner she went, the better. So the three boarded a plane and left to New York two days later and, even when Felicia and Jacqueline saw nothing but America insisted there was a something, let America go into this camp so that she could train to be a hero. At least for the summertime.
RP Example*: Briana and her pacifist ways sometimes went too far.
America understood that she wanted to fit in with everyone as much as possible. She understood that sometimes Briana didn’t want to sit with her because she wasn’t considered “cool” or “polite” when the other girls were involved. It just made America so sick that her best friend would jump through hoops to impress Lan and Kay and the other people the were around with the three-letter names. Briana actually tried (and immediately failed) to get her parents to legally shorten her name to just “Bri”.
Anyway, America knew this class was going downhill when she heard the whispered commands to aim higher followed by an insult meant to be nearly inaudible.
“Try to get Miss USA.” America heard Lan hiss. The tiny crinkle was warning enough, and when America reached a hand back to her hair she found a candy wrapper entangled with her loose curls. Sighing, she tried to ignore the giggles.
“Now get the other one.” It may have been Kay who said that one; America thought they all sounded the same. Before he next wrapper could land in Briana’s tighter curls, America knocked it aside with her wrist.
“Knock it off.” She grumbled to the girls. The last thing she needed was Mr. Madden getting angry. He flared his nostrils when he was angry, and no one liked what was up there. The group scoffed, resulting in an eyeroll from America. “Seriously. It’s bad enough that you littered, but food in hair is not original at all.”
“Or whatever you call those...things on your heads.” That one might’ve been Zoe. America didn’t dare turn around to check and instead gnawed on her lip to keep from saying anything wildly inappropriate. Luckily, Mr. Madden’s attention was drawn towards the back of the room and he quickly hushed the girls before continuing to talk about cells. Just when America thought everything was fine, a Tootsie Roll wrapper grazed her nose.
“Throw one more thing and I will make sure you regret it.” She snarled, making Briana jump and the other girls recoil just for a second.
“Mr. Madden! America just threatened us!” Lan, Kay, and Zoe yelled in unison. The greying man turned sharply to America, then Briana, then the girls, then back.
“Oh really?” He asked. America met his eyes coldly. “Miss America -.”
    “Mr. Madden.”
“...Threatening is a very serious offence. If these girls all say they’ve heard it, I have no choice but to write you a referral and send you to see Mrs. Godfrey.”
America broke the staring competition to glance at Briana to see if she would vouch for her, to see if she’d tell him about the bullies. Her best friend had instead found an interest in the plastic plant in the far corner of the room. So much for backup. With another sigh, America stood up and, after tossing a clump of paper at the group in the back, marched her way out of the room. Slamming the door wasn’t enough. With a cracking sound, the glass fell with twinkling clatters to the ground and a deep groan signified the door breaking off the hinges and dangling in the doorway like a sideways curtain. That was the icing on the cake.
While the people in her class remained paralyzed in shock, America turned on her heel and sprinted towards the office to call her moms.

Any notes about your characters: FC is Shavani Seth.

    Spoiler:
    Miss America

    Powers:
    - To clarify: Her strength is not the result of a boost, but she can naturally do this without activating anything supernatural?

    LBC:
    - Who sent that letter to her mother?

    Yes, that's correct.

Would it be possible for a satyr to be disguised as a mailman or something of the sort?

Then said power would probably belong in the Abilities section unless you want to turn it into a strength boost.

A mailman satyr should be fine.
