Friendly Talk

Shane walked down to the beach with Mr. Mittens at this heels. He stopped in his tracks. There she was his best friend. He immediately pulled his staff off of Mr. Mittens and was leaning against it. Ready for anything. He always waited for some tricks she could pull he wanted to be ready.

Harper was walking down the shoreline with Gerard on her shoulder. The beach was always a fun place to play tricks, but today, she wasn't feeling it. She noticed a shaggy head of black hair on the other side of the beach. Harper waved for him to come to her, as she was just laying out her towel and sitting down.

Shane noticed the hand and he walked over to her. "Whats up?" He looked into those green eyes he had aways been attracted to them for some odd reason.

"Sit child. We've much to talk about," Harper said, with her lilting Welsh accent. She patted the space on the black towel beside her. "No worries, no tricks today." She subtly manipulated a tiny ball of water and held it behind her back until Shane let his guard down.

Shane whispered to Mr. Mittens to stand behing her. Shane put his staff up but he was ready for anything. Gosh, he thought those eyes! Mr. Mittens growled as he went behind here he immediately knew something was up. "Okay, I'll sit." He said that with out looking not those eyes. He had secretly had a crush on her since they had met but he knew she wasn't the dating type. He sighed.

"Whatcha sighing about, Shane? Something on your mind?" Harper knew about Shane's crush. Could he make it anymore obvious? But, due to Harper's sadistic nature, she enjoyed watching him pine over her. Sure, she could fall in love, but past romantic love, Harper had no interest in that side of it. And Shane was a good kid and all, just, not her type.

Shane made a little flower grow beside him. "This is for you. And the sighing oh its um its nothing."

Harper rolled her eyes. She sat up a little straighter as she plucked the flower from the ground. "Thank you, Shane." Harper's thoughts were elsewhere. The flower really didn't mean anything to her, it was just a small little plant. But Harper knew it was time. "And here's a gift for you!"She grinned as she splashed the water in his face.

He tried to avoid it but it didn't work out. "Hey that isn't nice!" With that he crew a little hole in the ground right under her. "How about that?"

Shane made a hole in the ground underneath the towel and her butt fell into it. Harper looked at him with a look of disdain as she pulled herself out and readjusted her black shirt and pants. As she looked at him, she couldn't help but laugh. Shane was such an innocent soul, but they balanced each other out.

He saw her laugh and he blushed. "Don't cross me like that!!!" He looked at her and he sighed.

Harper laughed again, this time a small tinkling giggle. "Are you sure you don't have a condition darling? You're doing an awful lot of sighing." At this point, she was just teasing him. It was easy to manipulate someone who was at her feet.

"It's well- nothing. I mean it's something but it's nothing." He looked down and started to cry a little.

Harper leaned in and wiped away one of his tears."Hey. Don't cry. You can tell me anything." She wasn't playing anymore. Harper could tell he was seriously dealing with something. She hoped that something wasn't her, and they didn't have to have any more heart to hearts about how she is not looking for a relationship. Ever.

"It's just I like this person but I know she doesn't want a relationship ever I just-"he sighed. "It's you." He put his head down and started to cry.

Harper couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Oh Shane, I already knew." She felt bad that she had backed him into a corner, but he was so desperate for love. "You know I'm not looking for a relationship. We've been good friends for a while, and your crush is so blatantly obvious, but I can't help but feel a small bit of pity for you." Harper pulled a packet of tissues out of her bag and handed them to Shane.

He didn't take the tissues. "Just can I go. I don't want to be here right now. I'm sorry but please." He looked down. "I thought you liked me."

Harper swallowed hard. She didn't know how she could break this to him. Again. "Shane, honey, I do like you. Just not romantically. Sure, we're best friends, but I don't want to take that step forward." She put the tissues back in her bad and just stared at the man-child for a while.

He sighed. "I know. It's just. Ugh! Nothing." He started to cry but he stopped himself. not in front of her "it's just your so pretty. I-I really like you." He looked down.
