at the moment, the daughter of mania found herself sitting on a log at the main fire, waiting for details concerning a quest that she was told she would be taking part in. she had yet to learn who she was going on the quest with, but she figured she would find out soon enough. the girl didn't even know what the objective of this quest was yet. it was obviously a hunt, but that could range from a man hunt to getting groceries at the nearest market. artemis was freezing and would much rather be in a tent, but she was told to report to the main fire as quickly as she could. so here she sat, with no one else around. every other hunter was either on a different hunt or in their tents trying to keep spirits high. after just five minutes of sitting there, a snow storm starts to pick up. great, just what we need: more snow. throwing her jacket hood over her head, the girl brings her knees up to her chest to aid in keeping herself warm. where the hell were her quest-mates? stupid cold. stupid wind. artemis had been in a perfectly fine mood earlier but not anymore. now she was pissed. where was everyone else?

the wind whipped through artemis' hair and sends a chill down to her bones. why did their outpost have to be in such an arctic place? the girl's group of hunters were currently camping at the very northern tip of alaska at the moment and artemis hated every second of it. she hated being cold. why wouldn't they be positioned in somewhere warm like hawaii? now that would be pretty cool. too keep herself warm, artemis was wearing a base-layer shirt under a black long-sleeve shirt and a royal blue black diamond insulated shell jacket and a pair of slim fitting dark ginger colored snow pants over a pair of base-layer leggings. colorful wasn't really artemis' thing, but she couldn't wear white or black in this climate; if something were to happen to her she would be almost impossible to find. artemis was prone to wandering off by herself, especially if she had an episode, so there was almost always another hunter either with her or watching over her. it was actually a job that lady artemis handed out to others. that didn't make artemis feel great about herself or anything. the daughter of mania had a hunch that lady artemis did not like her because they shared the same name. there was nothing she could do to change that though; lady artemis could snap her fingers and turn the demigod into dust at any second. there was no way she would confront the maiden of the hunt about the subject. artemis did ponder about quitting the hunt because of her hunch, but without her sisters and lady artemis the girl was nothing. she had nothing to go home to. so with the hunt she stayed.

Re: the search
Asina walked out of the tent that held Thalia Grace, her silver parka pulled tight up to her chin. The Hunters had entered the land beyond the gods for some unknown reason. Lady Diana was not with them, maybe because it was beyond the gods. She and a few other hunters were on a different hunt. Today, though, Asina was being paired with the daughter of Mania named Artemis, and Emily, to go find a missing demigod. Why there was a missing demigod in Alaska, Asina didn't even want to ask. She was not happy with being in Alaska.
The short Roman blinked uneasily in the bright daylight, then checked her watch. It was nearly nine at night, and the sun wasn't going down any time soon. She was glad time didn't go by Roman standards anymore, Alaska would have confused everyone. The snow also made everything ten times brighter, although Thalia had assured Asina that once they got down off the Cockedhat Mountain and to the Anaktuvuk Pass village, things would be warmer and there would be no snow. That was good, because Asina wasn't sure how much snow and daylight together she could take.
Putting her sunglasses on, Asina stuck her head in her own tent. "Oy, Emily, we've got an assignment. We're going out with the not goddess Artemis." She said, not really waiting for a response before heading to the fire to sit down and look at Artemis. "We're going off the mountain. To a village. You might have to interact with people. Mortals."

Re: the search
Emily groaned when Asina stuck her head inside their tent to bring the bad news. The cold up here dug right into her old leg wound and made it ache agonisingly. She gritted her teeth. "Okay give me a second." Em followed her friend out into the blistering cold, wishing that she might be able to stay inside where it was significantly warmer. Her limp despite her best efforts at hiding it happened to be distinctly obvious today, almost as obvious as the colour red on pristine white snow. "So what's the plan?" Emily asked trying to ignore the ache. There was nothing either she or the other Hunters could do about it, her leg in comparison to when she first joined happened to be much better. She could all too easily imagine how much more difficult being a Hunter would be for herself if she still needed to use her crutches to get around.
The Hunters would be slowed down significantly because of her, though sometimes their missions were delayed by Emily needing to rest as a result of her leg playing up.
She shivered in the cold, trying to sink inside her clothing to escape the biting chill. The land beyond the Gods certainly happened to be no picnic. Maybe next time they would find themselves somewhere warmer, Miami perhaps? Whatever their mission was, she certainly hoped it involved going somewhere warm or at least warmer than this. She made her way closer to the fire, sitting so her right leg faced the fire. Maybe the heat would chase the biting chill from the leg then it would no longer ache as bad?
A desperate hope really but she had to try unless she wished to be in pain from now till whenever it decided to stop hurting. Worse, monsters would notice the injury and try to attack it. They already focused enough on Em simply because she was among the weaker Hunters and just that fraction of a second slower at evading because of fore-mentioned leg. This mission probably would not be an easy one for her, but then again when was anything ever easy for a Hunter?

Re: the search
after what seems like an eternity, artemis hears the chatter of two hunters. the girl couldn't make out what was said, but she figured it had something to do with the upcoming hunt. soon enough, artemis can see a girl making her way towards her. it wasn't until she was sitting across from her that artemis could make out who it is: asina, daughter of pluto. asina gives her a brief description of what was going on, seemingly mocking artemis about talking to people. it wasn't that artemis was afraid of talking to people, she just wasn't the type of person to talk much. she talked when her input was needed, that's about it. there was no need to say anything else. the daughter of mania tries her best not to shoot daggers with her eyes at asina, nodding her head instead. without a sound, the hunter stands up and walks away from asina and towards her tent. after fumbling with the zipper for a few seconds, artemis manages to open up the tent and walks in. it was astonishing how much warmer it was inside her tent. why couldn't it be like this outside? that would definitely make this upcoming quest much more enjoyable.
it takes a few minutes for artemis to stuff all of her gear inside a large pack. the demigod had taken off her blue shell and replaced it with a standard hunter silver ski jacket, and also put on her kicking boots and punching gloves. once she double checks that she has all of the necessary gear for this quest, the daughter of mania walks out of the tent and back to the fire. there were now two hunters by the fire. artemis walks up to the two and quietly stands there, holding her hands behind her back, as if she was standing out of respect, which she definitely was not. her glare moves from hunter to hunter as she waits for asina to take the lead. she obviously had already taken over the position of leader on this hunt, not that artemis minded. she wasn't the leading type of person. it wasn't her jazz. hopefully they would disembark soon, for the storm was starting to get more brutal and the demigod was pretty sure the weight of her pack was sinking her feet into the ground, or maybe that was asina being a jerk with one of her many powers.
all artemis wanted at the moment was to get out of her current location. she hated everything about it. she hated the cold, she hated the wind, she hated the snow, she hated every little thing about the climate. why were they positioned in the land outside of the gods anyways? whose bright idea was that?

Re: the search
Asina was fairly certain that Artemis did not want to listen to the plan, because before Emily had even made it out to sit down at the fire, the daughter of Mania had left the fire without a word. This was why Asina disliked the girl and considered her a major liability in the mission. It was a couple of minutes before Artemis came back, and Asina took a deep breath, looking between Emily and Artemis.
"We've misplaced a demigod hunter named Katy. So we have to find her. Last known civilian location was the Anaktuvuk Pass about twenty miles or so from here. Because it is a mortal town..." Asina sighed and folded her arms over her chest. "You two were chosen because you speak modern vernacular. Or something. I was chosen for tracking skills, but was told that my tongue is...conspicuous." She said the word distastefully. "Thou art both expected to help me blend in."

Re: the search
Emily nodded, so they were on a search and rescue mission. Not too bad, apart from the fact that it required going near the mortals. Em possessed a deep bitter hatred for the mortals which stretched back to the days long before she became a Hunter or knew what her father happened to be. Yet, such feelings she kept secret from the other Hunters. The Em they knew was all quiet, shy, quite easily startled and not prone to bouts of aggression. However Emily despised the mortals, she hated them for the years of torment she endured as a cripple. Just thinking about it brought back dark memories and fanned the flames of fury within her.
"Sure." Em found herself saying even though deep down she did not wish to go any where near the mortal town. Yet she must go, not only for her companions sake but also for the sake of Katy, who once saved Em's life so she sort of owed her badly for that. Emily was glad for both members of the team, because she'd worked with both at least once before so she knew sort of what to expect though Artemis tended to be difficult to predict.
Not that she could talk at least Artemis did things, Em on the other hand usually remained quiet as if uncertain whether to join the banter of the other Hunters or not. Her leg throbbed bitterly in the cold, a painful reminder as to who she once was and of her old life. She was somewhat reluctant to go among the humans but she didn't draw as much attention to herself as a daughter of Himeros would like Katarina. "Do you want us to do the talking?" Em asked in a quiet voice, as if she was afraid of being yelled out for suggesting something.

Re: the search
artemis could sense distaste in asina's voice as she talked. she acted as if she could do this mission all on her own, and both artemis and emily were only tools to the daughter of pluto's disposal. whatever, asina could harbor all the hate in the world towards artemis; the hunter could care less. if it needed be, she could simply ask lady artemis if she could not be paired up with the other hunter on future missions. the maiden would surely understand, even though artemis was pretty sure that the goddess disliked her too. another thing that ticked off the daughter of mania was that asina talked as if artemis was afraid of talking, especially to mortals. the girl possessed no such fear. she was not afraid to talk, it just was not her forte. it was possible for her to hold a conversation if needed, but more than often other people try to speak for her or over her. it was annoying, but it was something that the demigod has dealt with for almost all of her life, so she was used to it. if needed be, she could and would make her voice be heard.
"yes, emily," artemis answers for asina, forcing herself to speak up so she can be heard over the howl of the wind. "asina doesn't have the most up to date tongue, no offense." while artemis didn't truly mean any offense, she could care less if any was taken. it was asina, what was she going to do? shout shakespeare at her? okay, maybe she could do a bit more than that, but artemis did not fear her fellow hunter. it was a bit of a bummer that the three got paired together. artemis and asina didn't exactly go well together. the demigod had no problem with emily though. she had been the hunter along with aria who helped initiate the girl in the first place. while she didn't so much feel close to emily, she felt much closer to her than to asina.
artemis had already set a goal for herself on this hunt. she would not make a fool of herself, especially in front of asina. she didn't want her fellow hunter to have any more reasons to detest her. sure, it didn't bother her that they didn't exactly see eye to eye, but artemis would much rather have friendliness between them, like with her and aria. that would be nice.
without another word, artemis shoulders her pack higher onto her back and starts to walk away from the group, actually taking the lead for once. there was no way the small crew of hunters could run at the moment, there was a bit too much snow on the ground. hopefully that would change once they were off the top of the mountain, which brought artemis to question why they had set up camp near the peak. it would've been much easier to set up at the base of the mountain, closer to the pass and civilians. perhaps that was the reason why: a group of demigods was more than likely to attract monsters. perhaps they had been placed so high up on the mountain to be farther away from the village, which meant less of a possibility of a casualty or even many casualties.
it felt odd, having the sun be up at such an odd hour. it was nearly nine thirty at night and the sun was still up in the sky, illuminating everything its rays touched. the snow was blistering white and harsh on the eyes, so artemis stops for a second and places her pack down on the ground. she opens it up and pulls out a pair of polarized and shaded ski goggles. the demigod places the goggles on her head, under her hood, then pulls up her hood. after putting her pack back on her shoulders, she looks back to see that the other two hunters hadn't started to follow her yet. had artemis started off going in the wrong direction? if that were the case, the girl would definitely not speak for a while out of sheer embarrassment.
all she needed were skis and the daughter of mania would be well off. it probably would be much easier to descend the mountain with a pair rather than by foot. it would be much faster as well and especially more enjoyable. artemis already looked the part, she might as well play it. alas, she had no skis on her and she highly doubted that the other hunters did. there was also the problem that artemis had never skied before. there was always a time to learn though, and what a great time it would be to learn: at the start of the hunt. though with learning comes the possibility of an accident, which would be great, considering they hadn't even really started to move off the mountain yet. what an awesome way to start a hunt: with a broken leg! artemis couldn't help but grin at her thoughts. goddess, i really am mentally insane.

Re: the search
"yes, emily, asina doesn't have the most up to date tongue, no offense."
Asina really did not want to lose her temper with the child in front of her, but her pride was already wounded by being bluntly told that mortals would think her mentally ill or brain damaged. So when Artemis made the comment, her lip curled involuntarily in a snarl, and she flashed an ancient hand-gesture that Lady Diana would have most likely smote her for. "Insolent, ill-mannered, disrespectful..." She muttered, then snorted with irritation as she tried to regain her composure. "One of these days, Emily, she is going to say something and someone is going to harm her."
If someone had at that moment pointed out that Asina was known among the Hunters as being insolent, ill-mannered and disrespectful with a bad habit of pushing the line between sarcastic and turned into a pigeon, Asina would have stubbornly denied it. At least in comparison to Artemis, who Asina also disliked because of the girl's propensity for only talking when she was saying something insolent.
Oh, yes, and the insanity. Like the fact that the Hunter was walking, like she planned on walking down the mountain at all. "Emily, grab out go-bags." She said, her voice actually sounding calm. Then she let out a whistle like a New Yorker looking for a taxicab. In the winter that would have been suicidal on the mountain, causing avalanches, but the snow wasn't thick enough to cause an avalanche during this warmest part of the year. Asina hoped.
"Artemis! Are you planning on walking? It's fourteen leagues and time matters." She yelled, waving the Hunter back. The eldest Hunter squinted at the glare on the snow, then up at the still blazing sun. It was almost a shame that it was the land beyond the gods, Apollo would probably love the everlasting sun. That twit. It presented a problem, though, in that she needed enough shadow cast to cover the three Hunters. Well, there was that cave she had found the day before, it would easily fit the three of them. "We need to go 40 or 50 meters to our south."

Re: the search
Emily said nothing, she possessed no love for the mortals. She wasn't exactly thrilled with joy at the thought of having to talk to them. She remained quiet deciding to try and avoid getting herself involved in the mini-conflict between the two hunters. Em happened to be very good at keeping her head down to avoid trouble. She nodded quickly in agreement with Asina though she did hope that no one would harm Artemis, she might act a little odd at times but Em couldn't really talk there and besides she was a Hunter, they were a team despite coming from all periods of history.
"Okay" She stood up with some difficulty, despite being sat near the fire the cold seeped into her bones making her leg stiffen. Em gritted her teeth and went to go grab the required bags. Emily could not wait till they managed to get off of this mountain as at the moment, she wasn't having too good of a time up here.
She returned a few minutes later with three bags, Em dropped them in the snow, leaning more of her weight on her left, favouring that leg in preference to her right.
She hoped that Artemis would come back to the group when Asina called as it probably wasn't good for them to split off so early in their mission.
The hunters would just need to get on despite their individual quirks and differences.

Re: the search
a slight frown adorns artemis' face as she strains to hear asina's voice shouting at her to come back. the daughter of mania slowly trudges back to the small crew and takes off her goggles, letting them rest on her neck. once she was back to the others, she stares from asina to emily, her chestnut eyes gleaming in the sunlight. judging by the look on asina's face, artemis' words had definitely struck a sour chord in the hunter. whatever, her words weren't exactly meant to be harmful, but if asina took them to be, so be it. artemis couldn't seem to bring her eyes to asina, so instead she stares into the distance past her. to be honest, artemis was fine with walking the distance. the demigod loved to be on the move, but no, asina had to transport them fast with her stupid shadow traveling. stupid pluto, giving his kids stupid powers. maybe it was jealousy that permitted artemis to think this, or maybe it was just the fact that asina was a stubborn, show-offish, and impolite demigod. why did she have to be on this quest with her? she was fine with emily, she even liked the girl, but not asina. there was just something about her that made artemis' blood boil.
artemis couldn't help but feel bad for emily. the hunter appeared to be in quite a bit of pain due to her leg. the daughter of mania picks up the two go-bags, one with each hand, then nods to emily. Re: the search
Asina saw Artemis take two of the bags and shook her head. Emily was very nice, a good kid, but prideful in her own way. She didn't think the daughter of death would appreciate Artemis trying to take pity on her. "Emily is strong enough to carry her own bag without causing issues. Let us head out."
Asina blinked again as she started to walk, the sunglasses not doing nearly enough today to block the light. Even if they had the time to leisurely hike into the village, Asina would much rather shadow travel just to get away from the snow's glare faster. Which was a shame, because she really didn't enjoy the feeling of shadow travel either, or the fatigue that came from taking two people with her. And the possibility of getting lost. But 14 leagues wasn't too far.
The cave was a short walk away, but when they got to the mouth of it, Asina slowed. She ran a hand through her short hair as she remembered something some of the Hunters had commented on. Emily was afraid of tight spaces. Claustrophobic. To Asina it was a little strange, because she felt so at home under the earth, but then, there were other things Asina was afraid of.
Closing her eyes, she took a mental workup of the cave. It was empty, about twelve cubits long with the highest ceiling height of four and a half cubits. Structurally sound. "Emily, I know you dislike caves, but with this endless day, I must have enough shadow to make the jump. The cave is sound and will not falter, and it will only take us a minute."

Re: the search
Emily wasn't sure whether to be grateful that Artemis took her go bag from her or offended. The daughter of Death pride happened to be hurt by it, she always tried to prove herself equal and not let her injury prevent her from doing the same as the other Hunters. Em found herself unable to object to Artemis' kindness, it would be rude to respond to it in a disagreeable manner. She gritted her teeth in pain, the cold really disagreed with her old injury. "Thanks." She whispered to Artemis eventually, before responding to Asina.
"It is okay she can carry it for a bit." She informed Asina hoping to keep both sides happy. Yes her pride had been hurt but she was used to it, despite its sting. At least it wasn't as bad as her first months with the Hunters whilst her leg healed. Being carried on a stretcher really hadn't been her preferred mode as transport. Yet despite her numerous objections the Hunters wanted to move at their pace and not at the painfully slow pace Em once moved at. That and she kept stopping due to pain.
"Your kidding right?" Em objected, hoping that perhaps there would be an alternative route to entering the cave. The Hunter felt as if the weight of the earth was already closing in around her, making it more difficult for her to breath. "I... I don't think I can..." She hated showing weakness, the daughter of Death began to back up slowly, shaking her head, her breath and pulse quickening.
"No, no, no." Em struggled to keep herself from freaking out fully. She hoped that she might be able to control her claustrophobia. Evidently not. She fought against her inner demons trying not to panic. If she did the other Hunters might have to forcibly drag her into the cave, possibly kicking and screaming.

biting her tongue with all of her willpower, artemis picks up the go-bags and averts her eyes from asina's glare. she would carry them for now, but once they had arrived at their destination she would give them back to emily, just to avoid any further arguments with asina. the girl obviously had something against artemis, but the daughter of mania had no clue as to why. what had artemis ever done to her? nothing! all asina ever seemed to do was criticize every little thing artemis did. the girl would probably even yell at artemis if she stood slouched or sneezed. artemis had tried to be nice to asina, but she had given up on that now. despite being a fellow sister-in-arms, asina was her enemy.
placing her goggles back over her eyes, artemis starts making her way to where asina told her they were going. the girl assumed that asina planned on transporting the three of them via shadow travel, which would require darkness. perhaps they were walking to a cave or a cliff? as they walk, the wind starts to become faster and faster. soon enough, artemis had to strain just to see asina and emily walking in front of her. the girl couldn't really speed her pace up, for the go bags were sort of dragging her down. why did i have to be nice? this is what happens to nice people.
after what seemed like an hour but in reality was only around five minutes, the group of hunters reach their first destination: a small cave. artemis walks into the mouth and drops the go-bags on the ground, glad to be out of the reach of the nasty weather. everything actually was starting to seem pretty well until asina brings up the fact that emily was a tad bit claustrophoic. artemis herself had no fear of being in tight spaces, but she couldn't look down on emily for that. the daughter of mania had her own irrational fears as well, so who was she to judge the fears of others?
a small burst of warm air escaping her lips, artemis takes off her goggles and looks to emily. she wanted to say something to convince her that everything was going to be okay, but instead finds herself at a loss for words. typical artemis. leaning on the cave wall, the daughter of madness looks to asina, trying to determine how the girl would react to emily's minor freakout that was taking place.

"Your kidding right? I... I don't think I can...No, no, no."
Asina made a soft tutting sound when Emily started to panic. The older hunter put her hands up in a placating manner, "Shhh, shhhhh, breathe. Take a deep breath for me, in through your nose, out through your mouth." She said, her voice a lot softer and gentler than usual. She slowly approached Emily, like one would a skittish horse, and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Shhh, shhhh, it's okay. It's not going to close in on you. Remember what you told me about fear? Facing fear? It's a good thing, but you can't let it control you. It's good to be suspicious of caves, but this one can't hurt you. Breathe, honey, come on, deep breaths. Don't hyperventilate." She said, keeping her arm around Emily to both comfort her and to prevent her from bolting off in another direction.

Re: the search
Breathing already became difficult, but she tried her best to follow Asina's instructions. She didn't want to enter the cave at all, being this close to the entrance of one was already uncomfortable for her. Em trusted Aisna however she still didn't believe that the cave would not close in on them. Emily flinched when she wrapped her arm around her shoulder, she wasn't overly used to personal contact and especially not when she was on the verge of freaking out.
"No, no, no." The daughter of death whispered pushing back , finding the stronger Hunter's arm in place to prevent her from withdrawing away from the cave in wild terror. "I don't want to go inside." Emily would quite happily stay outside the cave despite the brightness. At least then hopefully the ceiling or walls would not close in on her. "I can't." Em whispered. "Asina, Artemis I can't." She admitted bitterly.

Re: the search
this was going to be an issue. artemis could not complain though, for if it was something like crossing a river artemis and emily would swap positions. the demigod leans against the cave wall, thinking of a way for them to travel without emily freaking out. her head turned towards the inside of the cave, artemis listens to asina talk to emily, her voice calm and . . . what was that? kindness? asina was capable of being nice? or is she usually nice but has something against artemis? the daughter of mania wouldn't be so upset with asina being harsh towards her if it wasn't for the fact that she had no clue why. what did artemis ever do to her?
to be completely honest, it broke artemis' heart when she heard emily tell the two that she couldn't go into the cave. the hunter might be quiet and withdrawn, but she was not cold on the inside. when the words escape emily's mouth, artemis rocks herself onto her feet and walks up to the daughter of thanatos, a kind smile playing at her lips. "then we can find another way," the demigod replies to emily's sour utter of defeat. they would find an alternative. there was no doubt in artemis' mind that the group of hunters could do so.
the idea hit artemis like a pick-up truck. "asina, how much shadow does emily need covering her for you to transport her?" the girl asks as she shrugs off her pack and unzips her jacket. "could we perhaps shade emily with our jackets?"

Re: the search
Asina's anxiety levels were beginning to raise a little themselves, but not feeding off of Emily's panic, but due to the idea that she had no other idea how to get enough shadow for three people to travel in. When Artemis suggested covering Emily with their jackets, the older Hunter shook her head. "I need all three of us in shadow. Transporting another person takes a lot of energy, I can't do it and come back to get you. By the time we managed to get back, I'd be useless and would have to eat and sleep." She explained, running her free hand through her hair.
"Although... Emily, Em, could you go closer to the cave if you didn't have to go in it? Just right up near the mouth of it? We could cover you enough to shade and Arty and I could use the shade from the cave..."

Re: the search
Emily was glad that Artemis suggested trying something else. The daughter of Death hated no detested admitting to fear or being prevented from doing something. However such a thing like entering a cave was currently beyond her capacity. She would be find in going closer to the cave, provided that neither of her friends would try to drag her into the cave.
It was a far better solution than having to forcibly drag her into the cave, her fear would result in her being hostile to her allies. Em wasn't the greatest fighter, she was not even a decent fighter but even one as poor as her in combat when powered by a powerful phobia she could or would be able to put up a fierce struggle.
"Okay." She whispered her voice filled with panic, she took a few deep breaths trying to control her fear which overran her mind. "Just... Please promise me you won't drag me in there?" She whispered her voice rising to a shrill from terror. "Please... I... I cannot go in there... I just cannot."

Re: the search
artemis had an idea. it wasn't the best and would probably make both asina and emily super pissed off at her, but if it got them to shadow travel, it would be worth it. the demigod zips her jacket back up and walks out of the cave and into the harsh sunlight. goddess, this could end up a huge mess if asina doesn't react to what artemis was about to do. the demigod takes in a deep breath and looks to emily. from what artemis could tell, the girl didn't seem to be paying artemis much attention, wich was good. trying to remain undetected by emily, the daughter of mania walks behind her then steals a glance at asina, nodding her head slightly. hopefully asina would understand what to do. artemis also was silently praying that emily would not hate her for eternity after this. that would make the rest of this quest absolutely awful for artemis. asina already seemed to take a disliking to her, so if emily began to as well, the girl was screwed.
silently releasing the air from her lungs, artemis takes a step forward toward emily. a frown appears on her face as she thinks about what she was about to do. goddess, what am i doing? i could jeopardize everything! the demigod berates herself mentally. no, she had to do this. she had to push her thoughts aside. who cares if asina or emily got mad at her? artemis was going to help, one way or another. taking in a deep breath, the hunter rushes at emily, her arms ready to push her at asina, who would hopefully know what to do.
"asina! shadow travel!" the girl shouts mid run. she hadn't collided with emily yet and was not looking forward to the moment when she did so.

Re: the search
Asina had been moving into place in the shadows as Emily inches closer. Then Artemis moved and nodded at Asina. There was a moment of confusion, then a sinking feeling in the pit of Asina's stomach, but she knew it was probably necessary.
It was still very startling when Artemis yelled and then Emily was pushed into Asina. She tried to grab for Artemis before Emily could move from her grip. She didn't have much time. Time was up. They dissolved into the shadow without Artemis, appearing in the mellow shaded area of a tree with the mountain in the background. Adina's head all but exploded with the pain that exhaustion brought, she bent over, then wretched for a few moments before straightening. Shadow travelling with a headache was not a good idea.

Re: the search
Emily was too startled to put up much of struggle, she let out a yell of surprise. The next thing she knew she was encased in darkness briefly before being deposited on the ground in the shaded area of a tree. Em rolled away from Asina, her heart hammering in her chest like a jackhammer, trying to control her breathing.
It was a while before she came to her senses and managed to calm down somewhat. The daughter of Death didn't look very happy, considering it was underhand trickery between the two of them which sent her through the darkness. Em felt more hurt than angry, hurt that her friends had made her shadow travel despite her objections to entering the cave.
It happened to only be after she'd recovered that Em realised much to her horror that it was only herself and Asina here. Either they'd left Artemis behind or she might be stuck in the shadows.
A fear of Em's every time she unfortunately happened to shadow travel. Yes ironic the daughter of death disliked dark spaces because it reminded her too much of being underground.

Re: the search
artemis collides with emily and ends up pushing her right into asina's arms. the girl feels a yank on the back of her jacket, choking her for a second, but then there was nothing. the demigod finds herself collapsing onto the ground, the two other hunters nowhere to be seen. it worked. her plan worked! now she just had to pray to the gods that emily and asina wouldn't be extremely cross with her. "well," the demigod mutters, "that worked better than expected." with that, the hunter stands herself up and makes her way out of the cave and into the blazing sunlight, as well as the snowstorm which just so happened to start raging in the moments that artemis had pushed emily. this is going to be fun.
taking a refillable plastic water bottle out of a pocket on the side of her pack, artemis takes a swig from it, then returns it back to its pocket. it was now half-empty (or half-full, but artemis wasn't really the optimistic type), which meant that she would definitely need to pack some snow in it and let it melt later on if she wanted to drink at all during her upcoming trek. with a highly audible sigh, the demigod picks up her feet and starts heading toward the direction of the anaktuvuk pass, where hopefully asina and emily would be by now. her feet seemed to be ten thousand pounds as the girl wallows through the snow, which was starting to stick to the ground and rise up at an alarming rate. hopefully the storm would be non-existent a little bit down the mountain.
it was a pretty rough descent to get to lower ground, but artemis manages to only stumble and fall a few times. about an hour into the trek down, the weather starts to clear up and the snow on the ground loses its height. if there was no snow on the ground, artemis would've made it to the pass by now without any issues. snow made everything slipperier, especially when she ran. goddess i would kill for some crampons right now. once the snow started to clear from the ground altogether, artemis decides it was time to take a little break. the demigod plants herself down on the rocky ground and takes off her pack. after a few minutes of digging through it, the girl pulls out a chocolate chip clif bar and devours it in two bites, which was quite the feat. she didn't realize just how hungry she was until she tastes the sweetness of chocolate. she couldn't stop long enough to cook a legitimate meal, however. the hunter had to make it to the pass as soon as possible.
finishing off the water in her bottle, the demigod stands up and shrugs her pack back over her shoulders. she didn't really want to make the rest of the journey, but it she only had ten miles left to go and the ground didn't have a single patch of snow on it. the temperature was also starting to rise, which led the hunter to take off her jacket and snow pants, revealing a black long-sleeve shirt and base-layer leggings which the girl had deemed decent looking enough to wear them solely. she had more clothes in her pack, but they were all stuffed into the very bottom of it and artemis did not want to take the time to rummage through the backpack to find them. the girl did however take a pair of trail-running boots out of her pack and replaced her standard combat boots with them, for traction was very important, especially on the rocky ground. one slip and the girl would be done for. once she was ready, the girl clips the chest straps on her backpack together and takes off, her legs still warmed up from the previous hike.
progress was fast and artemis felt no pump as she ran. this was what hunters outshone others in doing. the blessing of diana granted them incredible speed and endurance, not to mention superb hunting skills. the time flew by as the demigod ran, the landscape blurring around her. she had to be extremely focused and watch every footstep that she took, which was no minor feat for a running hunter. after what felt like ten minutes but was really an hour, the ground started to level out and artemis was able to pick up her pace a little bit. she could now see a cluster of buildings in the distance which must've been the pass. judging from how far away it appeared to be, artemis would get there in around fifteen minutes or so. that's not bad at all. i'm just glad that there is no more freaking snow.

Re: the search
Asina was quiet for several moments while she regained her own bearings and let Emily process what had just happened. She could tell that the other demigod was upset, and she couldn't blame her. Artemis may have done Asina a favor, but it was a dirty trick, and one that cost them Artemis making the jump. "That was not my plan, Emily, but for what salt it is worth, I am sorry." She said, "I couldn't get Artemis, I needed to have been touching her. I imagine she will run to meet us in a few hours. I, uh, overshot the town. It looks like about two leagues. We should start walking. We do not have a lot of time to tarry."

Re: the search
Emily was quite for sometime after Artemis spoke to her. The daughter of Death happened to be very hurt by the actions of her friends, it came as a horrible shock to her. She knew it was for a good reason but even so she still felt hurt by their actions. Despite Em informing them of her inability to enter the cave they still tried it.
They still made her do something she would have preferred not to do. That was what hurt the most, that they still made her do it.
"Its alright." Em eventually replied her voice downcast and quiet. She trembled slightly but it was impossible to tell whether from fear, terror, adrenaline or anger. Perhaps even all four of them at once? At least now once they regrouped with Artemis they could hopefully complete their mission.
"Come on then lets move this two leagues." She said moving towards the town. Em had no idea how long a league was, it might be a considerable distance so it was best to start now.
They still made her do something she would have preferred not to do. That was what hurt the most, that they still made her do it.

Re: the search
the fifteen minutes felt like nothing to artemis. before she knew it, she was in the small village, searching for a place where emily and asina would easily be able to find her, although she wasn't sure if the two hunters would want to see her. emily probably hated her now, even though the daughter of mania had helped advance the quest. this will be fun when we meet again, the girl mutters in her head, if that was even possible. after walking through the main road of the village, the demigod decides to wait for the others at the front door of a general store. she plops herself down on the ground, her backpack against the wall and her legs out in front of her. where were the others?
after chilling there for a few minutes, artemis begins to grow restless, so to combat it she takes her pack off of her back and starts firing through it, looking for one of her many beanies. she ends up pulling out a neon green one and places it on top of her head, having it cover the tops of her ears. exhaling deeply, the girl rocks herself onto her feet and puts her pack back together and throws it over her back once more. she then proceeds to walk into the store, in search of some real food. hopefully they'll be able to find me. or maybe they won't and i'll be stranded here. that'd be just great.
