personality
Annika, in short, is someone who won't take anyone else's crap. She's not overly fond of using her powers so she tries to keep them on the down low but has been asked a few times for demonstrations regarding them. Along those lines the daughter of Bia is a logical thinker, not really having a stomach for the fantasy questions unless they are in stories. She has a loving heart and just wants to both find love and love others. That doesn't mean though that she isn't shy, just not as much as she knows other people can be. She likes to keep to herself at times and is also very good at keeping a secret when one needs to be kept. There are those rare occasions though that she breaks that rule and tells someone a secret if it involves them and would harm them otherwise. It's interesting to learn the layers of a person and Annika has many different layers to her, both good and bad. One of the bad would have to be her detachment from people some days. It's not uncommon for teenagers to have days where they don't want to do anything with society but for Annika cit can happen more often than others and can stay longer sometimes.
Annika isn't one of those campers who will use her power in a fight mostly because she doesn't really like how powerful they can seem(to her at least). It can actually leads to problems in the future when her powers will actually help her but for now she hates using them. She is also very quiet at times and tends to keep to herself for periods of time where she will go out into the world but avoids human conversation or sometimes refuses to even leave her cabin and sort of shuts out the entire world. Along with that she is shy towards many new people in her life, both with people she sees around camp often and with those people she just happens across during her time at home in Russia and anywhere else she travels to. Appearance wise, the girl has scars running along both her hip bones, in the front of her person that is, as a result of some fighting in camp that got a little too intense.
background
Ah Russia in the summer time. Such a lovely time of year. Just kidding, it freaking sucks. With the temperature often times reaching the low 90's , in Fahrenheit that is. plus the humidity that comes along with it Russia can be an unforgiving place during the summer months. however, the nights can be cool and comforting to many in the harsh environment. Annika Natalia Kazakov was born on one such night in June the year nineteen ninety-seven. Her mother, the goddess Bia, was never really a part of her life and through all of the emotional turmoil that would later befall Annika she would have done anything to have her mother back for guidance. Her father however, Feliks Kazakov, was there to raise her as best he could being a single father. His mother and stepfather, Natalia and Alexander, were as amazing as ever once they found out about little Annika. Granted they weren't too thrilled at either of the young adults for both having an illegitimate daughter and then the mother leaving in the States but still, they saw Annika as the daughter they never got to have and treated her as best they could.
Now came the fun part, secondary school. And by fun I mean absolutely terrifying. Annika wasn't in secondary school for long, only about a semester and a half, before everything she knew got turned upside down and then in on itself. By the time she was in her 9th year of school she started to notice she was stronger than some and sort of had a relative idea as to who would win a fight before it happened. One of her friends, a paralyzed boy named Cleo, thought it was rather cool how she could get a generalized idea of how strong a person was. Cleo sort of threw that out the window thought seeing as he was pretty strong but yet he was in a wheelchair. Ignoring everything in regards to strength and what not the young girl continued about her daily life as a Russian teen. She worked hard, played hard and above all else she kept her little known gift a secret. About this time Cleo started to get very protective of her. He would tell her to come over nearly everyday to hang our or simple do homework together. Feliks started to get a little on edge as well. When she would finally come home he would ask her how her day went and if anything strange happened. It was like a routine for a while, and a very nice one at that. She would go over to Cleo's house, the two would hang out till around 19:00 and by then she would have had dinner then go home to her father and grandparents. Nothing happened, everything was dismal almost. Until about two months before her birthday that is.
Annika was on her walk home from Cleo's and her phone read 17:23. The two had been working on homework for most of the night but Annika decided that, since she was done before her friend, she was going to head home early and have dinner with her actual family tonight. Walking through the side streets and listening in on other conversations the thirteen year old noticed a few ripples appearing in a once still puddle next to her as she stood waiting for a cabbie. It wasn't too odd but there was something about the rhythm that made her uneasy in her gut. Ignoring the erratic pattern and smiling to herself as a cab pulled along side her the teen got inside and quickly told the driver where she was interested in going this fine afternoon. With the car now on the streets of Moscow Annika took another notice at the puddles that seemed to grow greater and greater in number as well as force of the ripples. That's when she felt it. Something in her mind set off an alarm and as quick as lightning she turned her torso around and saw something big looming over the backend of the vehicle, also taking into notice that the cabbie didn't seem to notice a single thing out of place. With adrenalin now coursing through her the unknowing demigod scrambled out of the car just before the giant creature slammed his giant fists into the back of it.
Letting out a shriek the white haired teen bolted for an alley. She had been walking home for years now and knew this area fairly well seeing as it was so close to her home but that didn't really register as she was being chased by a giant thing with horns. Manticore. Something in her mind whispered. Then it clicked. Manticores! She had just recently been studying the Greek mythology in schooling and remembered all the legends about the horrible beasts. But what was one doing outside of the maze? And why was it even chasing her? Manticores were supposed to be something of myths so why was one barreling through cars on the streets of Moscow. Thanks to her distractive thinking Annika was loosing speed and by the time she realized it was too late she was flung through the air and landed on the ground with a crunch, rolling a good few yards as well. Pain coursing through her body she felt herself blacking out from it but managed to see Cleo run from a nearby pub, stand up from his chair and draw a large sword. Then everything went black.
With light slowly trickling it's way into her eyes the girl woke up but not to the sight she was unused to. It was an infirmary of sorts, like one you would see on a television show about some ancient time period but it still had modern things. Looking around the room frantically a boy came over to her with a smallish amount of horns on his head and....goat legs? He shushed Annika who was speaking frantic Russian and the second he started to speak as well she realized who it was. With Cleo now in front of her, standing oddly enough, he managed to keep her calm as the apparent Saytr explained what all had happened after she blacked out an why he was hiding his 'true form'. Cleo explained that he and one of his fellow satyrs had been stationed in Russia for scouting purposes and that Cleo had a hunch that she may be a demigoddess. He then explained that as he got to know her more he realized that she wasn't one of the normal demigods that he had encountered and when she kept winning wrestling bets he put pieces together and reported to Chiron that he thought he had a few ideas as to who her mother was. This peaked Annika's interest during the story. She had no recollection of her mother and was told she moved to America right before she was born and her father raised her in Russia for an unknown reason. When the demigoddess asked her friend how she managed to stay under the entire time to get to America Cleo talked about a demigoddess named Lena who had a private jet and they used that to get home faster than on a commercial plane, as well as using an anesthetic to keep her sedated while they flew to help her relax and ease her into the camp life.
Cleo explained how that was mostly true but her mother was a goddess, somehow. As the story began to unfold with the fight of the Manticore after she blacked out Annika began to relax more and more into what was going on around her, Cleo also explained that he followed her home every night out of concern and that he was glad he did that night. The hustle and bustle of the other apparent campers as well as the fact that she was a demigod from some super cool sounding mom. Standing slowly, and with the help of Cleo, Annika began to follow her guardian around the camp grounds, her heart still thumping in her chest. She had left Luna and Midna back at her house in Russia along with everything else she owned and it was starting to get to her. But with a pleasant surprise at her cabin she found the two cats as well as he belongings on the bed. Cuddling her beloved Siamese and Bengal a note was spotted and it was from her father, saying how he wished he had told her sooner and to not leave camp too often unless for family affairs. He loved her and wished her well before signing it as well as her grandparents, who she assumed had known a bit about this ordeal. Thanking Cleo over and over again the nearly fourteen year old began unpacking and researching her mother in a few books the Saytr lent her to help her settle into her new life at Camp Half Blood.
