Hello everyone! I've been tempted by the idea of a PJO rp so I decided to head over and check out this site! How's everyone doing? And any advice for a newbie to the site?

I need to find the moderators, to ask some questions, I think I'm going make a daughter of Hecate for my first character!

It's mostly like... I see the whole "magic" angle can end up looking Mary Sue-ish REALLY quickly, and so I'm not sure how to make it workable, especially as I don't remember any canon children of Hecate.

From what I've seen so far on the site, the powers section is a minor part of the character form. Most people seem to pick a smaller aspect of a god's powers as a basis for their character's powers. For Hecate, maybe you can have your character perform a couple of curses or hexes instead of being a full blown witch. If you're wanting to make a hardcore magic user, I would suggest maybe having long cool downs on the character's abilities or maybe making their magic less effective on other demigods. Perhaps the level of magical proficiency your character has can be altered. You could start them out with minimal knowledge of how to perform magic and gradually have them learn to better wield their powers, tweaking and changing them with time to keep them from becoming a Mary Sue. Of course these are mere suggestions but I hope they prove useful. Maybe  more veteran users of the site could step in to help until you hear word from the admins.

I like the idea of them learning about magic, for sure- and the powers are part of what separates Demigods from mortals, so imo they at least deserve some decent thought.
