Canyoning to the death! (private Ethan/Dana)

Ethan stepped onto the stone outcrop, peeking down at the churning water underneath. He was dressed in a neopren wetsuit and sturdy shoes, a viking helmet on his head. Ready for a little afternoon with his friend Dana.
The canyon was truly impressive. Rocks jutted out from everywhere, perfect for climbing...or dying. Further down, the torrent gurgled and splashed, bouncing from rock to rock, falling in thick white water curtains or pooling blue into icy ponds. Ethan had been canyoning a bunch of times in Hotel Valhalla, but the scenery changed each day. He leaned over, trying to get a better look....

"WAAAAHHHH!!!"

A hit from the back had sent him over the edge of the chasm and he just had the time to throw his rope upwards. A harness materialised around his waist, the rope latched itself around an outcrop and Ethan came to a sharp stop in the middle of the canyon.

"Not funny!" he shouted, swinging around wildly.

Ethan was close behind. He rappelled down a side of the canyon, bouncing from hold to hold, and let himself drop the last few meters as his harness and rope shimmered out of existence.
He landed with a roll and came back on his feet. Without losing a second, he took a sprint, jumped horizontally and landed in a toboggan headfirst. He slid from side to side in the churning water before being expulsed through a three-meter waterfall. Ethan used the momentum to do a little somersault and gathered his knees against his chest just before impact. BAM! He hit the water in a burst of white bubbles. It was painfully icy, so cold his face felt like it was burning off. Luckily his wetsuit kept the rest of his body warm as he swam forward.

Ethan watched Dana's head disappear into the river, right in front of a large rock. Also dragged along by the current, he tried to follow her advice but his timing was wrong, so he got sucked underwater right as he was taking a big gulp of air. "Gulgulglbgulbgublg!"
The icy torrent pulled him along like a toy, thrashing chaotically, and he was just wondering how long it'd take him to die when a tingling sensation suddenly filled his stomach... as if he were falling. Whack! He fell down what seemed to be an underground water fall, hitting the surface like a pancake. Absolutely freezing, he came back up splashing and spluttering, his wet hair covering his eyes.

Of course, Dana wanted to go where it smelled of death. Ethan grabbed her hand and they made it to the shore, pulling each other onto the rough stone.
The tunnel was littered with upwards-jutting rock formations, making it hard not to trip. Ethan already pictured the conversations in the Feast Hall later on. "So, how did you die today?" "I uh, you know, got impaled by a stalagmite." Soon they left the watery halo of the cave behind them and stumbled around in utter darkness. Even Dana who was usually a nimble little pixie had difficulties.
He figured they could've tried to come back out the way they came in, but that would have taken far too much time. Even rope and einherjar strength were no match for a powerful torrent.

"Hold on," he suddenly said. He had been walking forward carefully, testing the ground with his toes before taking an actual step. And now, he felt the front of his shoe starting to dip into nothingness. "I think we're at a ravine."

Ethan started his own descent. Slowly but surely he caught up with Dana and both of them rapelled through the waterfall, spitting and spluttering for air. (If he'd known he'd get doused in icy water, he wouldn't have bothered showering in the morning.) Suddenly, he came to a stop. "How far do you think there is?" he asked over the crashing water.

"Preparing to jump," Ethan replied.

"Come on! Are we einherjar or what?" Ethan took a sprint and jumped off, his harness disappearing at the last moment. "WoohoooooooaaaAAAHHHH" He screamed his lungs to shreds as he tumbled downwards in the darkness, his lunch threatening to come back up. After several moments of shouting and falling he thought, This was a terrible idea.
Then he hit the water with a deafening SPLASHSSHH.
Pain erupted in his entire left side. He came back up, wiping his eyes. "I'm alive!" he gurgled, trying to ignore his broken arm.

"Never been better," he said with a pained smile she probably couldn't see in the darkness.

The river pulled them along for a few moments until a blue glow filled the cave like a halo. Dana and Ethan took a gulp of air and swam underneath a bunch of rocks, their hands flat on the stone. It wasn't long till they broke the surface out in the open, blinking and squinting in the sudden sunlight. Ethan wiped his eyes. His mouth fell open. "Wow."

They'd come out in a totally different place. Nestled in a mountain forest, the river formed deep turquoise ponds like pools of heaven. White cascades jumped off the rocks.  the water so clean and transparent it sent back a glassy reflection of the surrounding trees. Ethan could've sworn they were somewhere on a Scandinavian postcard.

"I know this is paradise, but.... damn."

Ethan's immediate reaction was to hide it behind his back. "What? That? Pfff. Tis but a fleshwound."
Even though it hurt much more than the time he'd stubbed his toe, the adrenaline was blotting out most of the pain. Yeah, he knew it wasn't right to keep going with an injury like that, but he was stubborn. And maybe a bit limits-crazy. As a living person, he'd have stopped at once, called 911, done the necessary first aid stuff. But as an einherji, he was curious. How far could he go? What were the limits of his strength, his endurance? He wasn't afraid to explore. After all, everyone got resurrected in time for dinner.

"Dana, I'm fine, don't worry. Here look, I can still fight!" He started giving her small punches, screwing his face up in pain every time he landed a hit but carried on. "Ha! Woo! Come on, is that all you got?" he teased, and pushed her....a bit harder than anticipated.

Ethan peeked over the ledge. Did....did I kill her? He caught sight of her limp body, laying on the rocks a few meters down. Huh.... she'll be fine.
