    qingye yu - volturnus 322065455239201

    > Basics

+ Name: 虞清夜 Yu Qingye (pronounced ching-yuh)
    + Age: 21
    + Gender: Cis female
    + Sexuality: (tentatively) bisexual
    + Eyes: Very dark brown
    + Hair: Brown, pin-straight
    + Height: 5' 7"
    + Skin tone: Sun-kissed
    + Ethnicity: Chinese
+ Body structure: Slim but toned
+ Other details: Ex-second cohort centurion, face claim is Chou Tzuyu
+ Place of birth: Nanping, Fujian province, China
    + Mortal parent: Yu Lansun
+ God parent: Volturnus (god of rivers)
+ Legacy of: Orcus (god of death and punishment)
+ Abilities: She's extremely good at using the magic whip she inherited from her mother, with a strong and sharp hand to control the wild crackling of the electricity it emits. Having grown up in a town surrounded by rivers, she's also especially skilled at swimming and navigating boats through waters.
+ Powers: Though nothing like the powers a child of Neptune might have, Qingye can make a river churn and speed its currents, overturning or drowning her opponents if they're in or very near said river. It's dangerous, however, because she can't yet command it once she's started, and can't control whether the crashing of the river will harm her or those near her (meaning this would probably last 3 posts at most and need eight posts to recharge depending on how much damage she's dealt). She can also stay under freshwater for much longer than normal (about 5 minutes, or one or two posts, and need four posts to recharge).

    >Details

+ Personality: Demigod children tend to represent a certain sphere of power from their godly parent, and Qingye is no exception. She is the determined, stubborn strength of the rivers. She's the rushing force that pushes the rivers along powerfully, and at times she's the ruthless, crashing currents. Ambitious and driven, Qingye is incredibly strict with others but mostly herself (her sister would say she's way too strict, can't she ever let up?) in her aim to become better. Although she's very straight-laced and harsh, she cares fiercely, especially for her family, and perhaps her severity towards others is an attempt to protect herself from the depth of her emotions.

+ Flaws: With an almost perpetual scowl, it's well-known that Qingye has a terrible temper, turning her sharp-tongued and vicious. She stubbornly holds grudges and opinions in an iron grip, and mulishly follows the rules. And although she feels too strongly, she's very bad at expressing her feelings - leading others to believe her to be uncaring and cold-hearted.

+ History: Qingye grew up with her mother's strong, strict hand on her shoulder, the comforting, gentle reassurance of her brother Lianming at her side, and the playful mischief of her sister Yueying bounding around and ahead of her.

She was born in Nanping, second child to tough Yu "Lily" Lansun (granddaughter of Orcus) and Volturnus. Her home surrounded by rivers, her earliest memories are of kicking her bare feet in the lapping shore of the river, Lianming (or A-ming as she calls him) affectionately ruffling her hair. Her early childhood was peaceful if not busy - Yu Lansun would not allow her children an idle moment, bustling both Lianming and Qingye to and from activities, whether they were playdates, swim or archery practice, English lessons, traditional dancing, etc., Lansun was determined to raise well-rounded, smart children, worthy of their godly heritage.

Yu Lansun loved her children and their father with all her heart, and although she eternally had to dodge her own mother's constant "when are you finally getting married, eh?"'s, she was happy, and so Qingye was happy. Until a few months after her eighth birthday, when Qingye had a vivid and strange dream.

A man with long, pin-straight dark hair, twinkling eyes and a kind smile crouched in front of her, and somehow Qingye knew this was her father, who mother spoke of in her stories. Strangely, however, there was a thin girl about Qingye's age, black-haired and wide eyed, peeking out behind him. Heart fluttering nervously, Qingye tried her best to look serious and grown-up (even she knew something Big was happening) as Volturnus met her gaze at her level.

"Qingye," he said, face solemn but eyes twinkling like light reflecting off the lake in the morning (something Lianming had inherited from him), "this is Mo Yueying, my other daughter, and your sister." Qingye's dark eyes snapped to meet the girl's wide ones. "She's been alone a long time, but she won't be anymore, because she'll have you and your brother and mother. Do you think you can do that for me? Can you care for A-ying like you do them?"

Qingye hesitated, eyes sliding back to Volturnus'. After another moment, she drew herself up as tall as she could go (which wasn't much, but she was still growing, alright?) and nodded decidedly. "I'll take care of A-ying!" Qingye said, and watched as twin smiles bloomed like the lotus flowers she loved on her father and half-sister's faces.

(She might have understood why their smiles were so bright and wide if she'd known her half-sister had been struggling to survive, tossed between orphanages and the streets, after the death of her mother two years prior, and Qingye's acceptance was one of the precious few kindnesses her half-sister had received since then.)

Anyway, while Lianming also had a dream almost identical to Qingye's, Lansun's dream had been much more unpleasant. After all, even though she knew of the fickleness of the gods, Volturnus' infidelity was a blow - especially the fact that he had visited her for the first time in years only to (in her mind) shamelessly requested that she care for a child of his affair. Eventually, she caved to the need to honor the god, and the next day she returned home from the city with a raggedy and too-thin Mo Yueying.

Yueying's arrival threw a splash of mischief and trouble into Qingye's structured life. First off, no matter how young Qingye was, even she could tell Lansun's bitterness at Volturnus' unfaithfulness carried on to an obvious dislike towards Yueying, leading Lansun to treat the girl harshly. Less depressingly, Yueying laughingly attracted mischief like a magnet and liked to drag a grumbling Qingye into it, both girls limping out of it and straight into Lianming's open arms. If Qingye was the firm, stubborn power of the rivers, Lianming was the welcoming cool of a peaceful river on sun-burnt skin, and Yueying was the playful babbling of the river at its liveliest.

Of course, Qingye's family's relative calm along the riverbanks couldn't last forever. Qingye was fifteen, Lianming nineteen, and Yueying sixteen when Yueying accidentally led monsters to their home. Just that morning, Qingye had awoken with a bad cold, and Yueying had left her in Lianming's care, heading to school by herself for the first time since she'd arrived at their doorstep seven years ago with a cheerful "see ya, wouldn't want to be ya!"

She came back that afternoon, bursting through the door, cheeks flushed and eyes wild with fright, running from a closely following pack of three dogs that didn't really look all that much like dogs the longer Qingye looked at them. In Lianming's attempt to shield his sisters, he was tumbled to the ground and nearly mauled, until Qingye (regardless of the way her heart seemed to want to thump right out of her chest) beat the dogs into dust with the bamboo staff she'd left out from yesterday's kendo practice. Only few minutes later, Lansun returned home to the sight of a pale Lianming with clumsily bandaged arms, and Qingye shouting, shaking a wailing Yueying for putting them in this trouble too.

On the drive back from the hospital, Lansun (face and voice stony) told them they were to be sent to a camp in California especially for the children of the gods, where they'd be safe, and that she expected them to train there to be the best.

Qingye's heart dropped into her stomach, and she shouted in protest. Her family was her life and now it seemed to be breaking apart. She only had the chance to rage for a matter of seconds, before her mother snapped at her with a harsh, "be silent!" Qingye's words died in her mouth, and suddenly she was aware of the way Lianming's head was bowed, newly treated arms held awkwardly, gingerly away from his torso, and the way Yueying huddled against the car door and away from Qingye, staring miserably out the window, ears red.

Qingye cried when she hugged her mother goodbye at the airport, but swallowed down a last plea to stay in the Nanping she loved, and as their plane took off, she swallowed down the anger she'd been holding for two weeks towards Yueying for putting them in danger. When Lianming reached out to hold his sister's hands, Qingye took his and grabbed Yueying's as well. The smile that greeted her as she looked up gruffly was the same she'd seen all that time seven years ago. Maybe her family was a little broken, but Qingye was determined to keep her promise to her mother to make it work and be the best she could be, and then some.

Yu Lansun had given them a map of (vaguely) where they could find Camp Jupiter, and once the three children of Volturnus found Lupa and her wolves in the woods, they proved their worth and were accepted into camp.

"Do the impossible," were her mother's words that rang through her mind when she struggled to catch her breath in between especially rigorous training with her cohort, or when she became centurion to the second cohort, or when she desperately missed the mountains and rivers near her home, or when she watched Yueying flourish and surpass her in strength and skill.

She's currently finishing her bachelor's degree at NRU, studying political science. Both Qingye and Yueying live in the dorms, but they visit Lianming in his apartment near the dorms often enough that their respective roommates tend to be surprised when they're actually at home.

+ Notes: Me to myself: maybe if I write up another character I can find some inspiration again

Secondary note: holy crap this was way longer than I expected it to be and I even cut out like 3 paragraphs I'm so sorry

Third (ary?) note: what the heck I wrote that and then proceeded to write 4 more paragraphs I'm SORRY

    Hey!
    Love your form :)

    - Can you give post limits to the power section?
    - Roman demigods dont get fauns, they are found by wolves to train with Lupa at the Wolf House to then be (if they pass her tests) sent to Camp Jupiter
    - Rest is good!
