Personally, I was really happy with some things but a bit disappointed by others. Camp looks great, it's amazing to FINALLY see features like the canoeing lake, the Mess Hall, the strawberry fields, the archery range, and most importantly the cabins!! It felt like coming home :D
Capture-the-Flag was really fun, Annabeth is great and I really love Grover, I think he's my favourite character so far. Percy's pretty good too, he made me laugh during CTF - and can we talk about Mr D? They really nailed him :O
- Now to the things I didn't like that much:
Two main things: the armours and Percy's acting. Remember when the first movie came out and everyone was mocking Logan Lerman's acting bc when he learned of his mother's death he acted like his favourite football team lost? Sorry but Walker Scobell did not nail it either. No matter what monsters appear or what tragedies happen, he always has the same expressions, and they're never more intense than mild shock. His mom died and the most we saw was him wiping a singular tear away and moving on pretty fast. I don't want to dig into him, child actors don't have to win Oscars or anything and he was really good at other times, but this one thing really irked me and prevented me from really getting into the show.
The second thing that prevented me from getting into the show were the armours and weapons. Again sorry for being a classicist/ancient historian on main but they look so costume-y. The first movie actually had relatively okay equipment in that respect but the shields we see here are comically small and the armours look medieval rather than ancient Greek. I was hoping to see either elements of hoplite armour or maybe a linothorax or two, but it just looked too fake, which is a real shame. Even Anaklusmos doesn't look like a xiphos, which the first movie actually did pretty well.
Also this is just me but I can't get over Percy being blonde and Luke being dark-haired. And Clarisse? They did my girl dirty, I was hoping to see an actual muscular girl with battle scars and a scowl but they made her look like an Insta baddie/mean girl (no hate to the actress, just the styling team)
Anyway these are my 2 cents! Tell me yours!
