Hunting For Monsters

I walk in with my sword amred looking around for monsters "come on I gotta murder something today!" I look around and find a few monsters then kill them, "that's better" I say then walk to train on dummies.

I enter with my composite hunter's bow already whipped out and strung. My ears twitch as I hear something approach from my right flank. Instinctively, I crouch behind a bush and nock an arrow on my bow. The sound seems to get louder and closer. I pop out of my concealed position and point the shaft at the intruder, only to lower it in surprise. "Fin?"

I stroll in, still getting used to this new enviroment. It was chillier than in New Jersey, but my hoodie kept me comfortably warm. I give a huff, see my cold breath, and continue walking. I lower my guard now, not really paying attention to where I was going, and suddenly, someone jumps out of vegetation with a menacing weapon. I hear my name and my face of terror turns into a big smile. "Well finally I find you."

"Nice to see you, too, ya big lug." I joke around and walk closer to him. "Did your 'fro get bigger?" I ask, seeing the mess of hair on his scalp.

I chuckle. "Yea, a little. Then again, I haven't seen you since summer vacation. Seriously, you had to run away, didn't you?"

Nodding, I reply, "Well yeah, you know my mortal father. Just waiting to kill me." I say as lightheartedly as possible. "Anyways, I see you're a demigod, too."

"Yeah, son of Jord. She's some Norse goddess of Earth or something."

I grin. "Nice, I'm a son of Ull. He's winter, hunting, death, and a bunch of other stuff."

"Cool. So, what are you doing here exactly? Trying to ambush some unlucky halfblood?" I inquire.

Shaking my head, I say, "No, I'm trying to better my hunting skills. Gotta fight monsters one time or another so might as well practice."

"Nice, I'll join you." I say and pull out a pencil which transformed into my claymore.

I nod and here some rustling a little ways' in front of us. Exchanging suddenly serious glances, I mouth 'let's go'.

I nod in agreement and start stalking towards the noise with me behind. I summon my wakizashi and put it on my back just in case a close quarter fight starts abruptly. We see a Hyperborean giant, his back against us.

I charge and slash at the twenty foot beast's right calf. It gives a great roar of pain as it turns around and tries to smash me with it's fist. I combat roll out of the way.

While it was distracted, I began shooting a volley of four successive arrows. Two of them missed, showing my lack of archery training, even if I was an archer god's son. The latter two, though, hit their marks and drilling into the monsters right lung and left biceps. The pain was obviously slowing down his reactions, but it didn't stop him from going berserk.

Being a giant of Hyperborea, it had the ability to breathe out a bone-chilling breathe, capable of near-instant hypothermia. One inhale of air warned me that he was preparing to use the power. Being the closest one, he exhaled towards me and I yet again roll out of the way. Still, my legs got caught in the wind and ice encased them up to my knee. I was stuck. I grimace as the giant was raising his fist for a final smash.

As the monster was still occupied with Fin, I switched weapons and ran behind the giant. I stabbed downwards into its left calf, making it collapse on its hands and knees and saving Fin from a pancake flattening death. I then pierce through its heart from behind. Yanking out my sword, I look at Fin and frown. "We better getcha to the infirmary."

I say nothing at first and change my claymore back into a pencil. "Good teamwork."

I roll my eyes. "Yeah, you almost got killed. That's teamwork alright." I sigh and drag my huge friend away from the pile of Hyperborean dust and out of the forest.
