Crazy
Gnarls Barkley
I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that face
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space
And when you’re out there, without care
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn’t because I didn’t know enough
I just knew too much
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Probably
And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice
That’s my only advice
Come on now who do you
Who do you, who do you
Who do you think you are
Ha ha ha, bless your soul
You really think you’re in control
Well
I think you’re crazy
I think you’re crazy
I think you’re crazy
Just like me
My heroes had the heart
To lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember
Is thinking
I want to be like them
Ever since I was little
Ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it’s no coincidence I’ve come
And I can die when I’m done
Maybe I’m crazy
Maybe you’re crazy
Maybe we’re crazy
Probably
Percy Jackson laughs.
“I remember when I lost my mind,” He begins thoughtfully. “There was something so pleasant about that face…” Clarisse LaRue yells out, “ANNABETH!” There’s a collective laugh around the amphitheatre.
“Even YOUR emotions had an echo, Clarisse, in so much space. Wow, in all of Camp.” He pauses, lost in some old memory.
“And when you’re out there without care—Yeah, I was out of touch, but it wasn’t because I didn’t know enough. I just knew too much.” He smiles to himself. “I saw weird things mortals didn’t, and I kept asking myself, does that make me crazy? Now I finally got the answer.”
Everyone leans in just a bit closer.
“Probably.” He shrugs. Everyone, even Nico, is smiling by now. Someone yells out, “But I hate it here. I want to go back, it was so much nicer.” There’s some boos and obscene words, but Percy cuts them off.
“Well I hoped that you were having the time of your life. But think twice, that’s my only advice.” The boy who said it is seething now. “What an idiot. I think we should get the right to choose.”
“C’mon now, who do you think you are?” Percy chuckles, light hearted. The boy yells some curses and obscenities at Percy. Nico stands up, his sword hanging by his side. The gesture is menacing.
Percy laughs heartily. “Bless your soul. You really think you’re in control, don’t you? Well, I think you’re crazy, just like me.” Clarisse roars with laughter, punching the kid “lightly” on the arm. “Go on!” a girl’s voice calls out.
“My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb,” Percy says, voice cracking on the word lives. “And all I remember is thinking, ‘I want to be like them.’ And ever since I was little, it looked like fun. Like, once I strangled a snake during naptime in pre-school. I was using it as a toy by the time my mom picked me up.” Again there was laughter from several people, including Nico.
“And it’s no coincidence I’ve come, and I can die when I’m done,” He says quietly. “Maybe I’m crazy, maybe you’re crazy,” He points at the seething boy, and continues, “Maybe we’re all crazy. Again—Probably.”
