"U-u-uh" I stammered. I didn't know how to deal with this but I knew Garo was interpreting what I was saying. My eyes wide, staring at Garo with his switchblade. "This isn't what I meant. I guess I didn't understand you . . ." I guess all her needed was someone to talk to about his past. I hope this wasn't a day for two funerals.

I trip over my words to get them all out, but I shouldn't. If I didn't say the correct words, I knew this could be the end of him. Sensitive subjects require care. I lower my switchblade from my neck and say, "I don't want to be alone, but lots of people have been jerks to me when I've tried. At Van Nuys Middle School, before I got here, I met a guy named Jack. He seemed to radiate some kind of power, like a demigod would, but he's not here. That's why I think, along with our Greek studies, that Jack may be a Greek demigod, and there are others out there. But back to the point. I don't like to be alone. But no one has even tried to help me."

I became calmer an relieved as to hear this boy's story which meant he wasn't on the verge of killing himself, maybe. I hope that. But, I didn't let out any sign of my relief because the topic was still tense. "I could help, if you let me, of course." I tried to sound confident but not ambitious. I tried to sound sure of myself that I could help even if I couldn't.

"Wait! Garo!" I yell after him. I take one last look at Mo's grave which is mostly filled up, but still isn't done. As soon as I take a split second to do that, I leave the area to chase after Garo.
