It was early morning and the sun was starting to rise over the horizon. A teenage boy roughly 15 was starting to wake up as he yawned and rubbed his eyes. "Wha... what time is it?" He asked himself as he yawned again looking out his cabins window. It was early, or at least early enough so quite a few kids were still sleeping in the Egyptian Cabin. The Cabin itself was a pretty cozy place but was only interesting for the first 5 minutes you walk into it, after that it just feels like an ancient tomb of some pharaoh and smells like it too.
The boy was Henry Darenback. Though to some this may just seem like a scene at any old summer camp, this camp and this boy were quite different. What made the Camp different was the fact that it was a summer camp yes, but it could also be year round and was run by a very special person and was home to very special kids. Henry was one of those special kids, what made him special was not the way he looked or the way he acted, or even what he liked eating it was his parent. His father was no ordinary man he was a god like the ones people talk about in those old myths, Henry's in particular was the Egyptian god Anubis whose sphere was that of Pharaohs burials and the likes.
Henry sat up on his bed scratching the back of his neck not quite sure what he wanted to do today. In reality Henry generally had no idea what to do most days and would generally just find himself wondering around camp being a nuisance. Today though he didn't just want to go around being a nuisance instead he wanted to actually try doing something, but what to do was the real question. He could always go swimming, but he was a crappy swimmer. Alternatively he could go practice using a bow, but who needed bows when you can just summon a minion to to be a distraction. He could also go to the arena he did need to catch up on his fighting and powers but again that just sounded, dull smashing at targets all day, nah if he wanted to train he would do it the right way.
And so Henry's mind was made up he would go train against monsters in the woods as it was one of the only places where they could be found within the camp. So, he undressed and put on his normal orange Camp Half-Blood shirt as well as a pair of jeans and some tennis shoes. Next he grabbed his khopesh. A khopesh was a blade that rather than the blade being mostly straight it curved out like a katana or scimitar, but instead it looked more like an ax as the curve was very abrupt. Now Henry's khopesh was special even by demi-god standards. Normally demi-gods used weapons made of a material called celestial bronze which is a sort of magical material, that is potent again monsters. Instead Henry's was styngian iron, a material harvested from the underworld and cooled in one of its rivers, as well it has the ability to completely absorb the soul of a monster it slays so they never go back to Tartarus making it extra potent. Generally only kids whose parents work in the underworld are gifted with a weapon of that material, and can actually use it luckily for Henry his dad had a job that was pretty darn close to the underworld.
After Henry had grabbed his weapon he looked back to see if there was anything else he wanted to bring. When he decided no he headed out, without a single care of everyone else still sleeping, slamming the door behind him. It really was early morning as you could only barely see the sun rising, and Henry couldn't even see another demi-god in site. "Oh brother," He told himself as he looked at the sky to see pretty far off storm clouds. Luckily the camp was protected from storms, but the city wouldn't be quite as lucky.
So with that, Henry rested his weapon on his shoulder as he casually walked towards the forest. By this point he knew the camp front and back, so getting there wasn't a problem, but the real question was where he wind up once he was inside because the forest was actually quite large and had kind of a lot of places within it.
The forest was quiet this morning as Henry couldn't see much of anything as the sun was still not high in the sky and the upper canopies of the tree blocked out a lot of the small amount of light that was actually coming in. Somewhere far off Henry could hear some animal noises, like growling. As well a few birds tweeted from the treetops. Henry didn't want to delve too far into the words as it would either lead him too the home of the satyrs, which were a drag to be around, or just leave you completely lost. Both options didn't sound too appealing to the son of Anubis.
Henry kept moving until spotted a landmark he knew, the Zephyros Creek, and yet still no monsters. "Hello anyone out there, looking for some action here!" Henry called out as he approached the creek. Yelling out such things would seem stupid in a place because they are but Henry didn't care he just wanted action and was impulsive. Not to mention he thought just by the sheer fact of being a demi-god he was pretty much immortal and couldn't be defeated, and up to this point that was pretty much true, but all things change eventually.
Rustling could be heard as something approached. "Finally," Henry said as he readied his sword to see what was approaching. It was a large and by large I mean the size of a small car large scarab beetle with two large gaping mandibles
Henry chuckled and nodded at the creature, "Alright Alright this is something I like." The beetle raised its head into the air as it slammed it into a tree near it toppling over. "Alright alright a little stronger than expected but still workable," Henry said as the creature charge. The boys eyes widened as he rolled out of the way and it slammed into a tree knocking it over. The satyrs would not be happy about this one.
Henry then concentrated real quick as he thrust out his hand calling a minion to his side, and out of nowhere sand started to rise from the ground as a snarling creature appeared. It looked like a normal buff man until you saw that it had the literal face of a really angry jackal. Best part it duel wielded khopeshes. "Attack," Henry said pointing at the large creature, and with theat the creature lept into the air landing on the tough creatures back.
Very quickly the Anubite started to slash at the hard exoskeleton but barely made a dent and only made the creature mad, but it distracted it enough for Henry to sneak around and slice of three of its six legs before plunging his blade into an exposed spot between the creatures hard back and head causing it to squeal before it burst into a pile of ashes and its soul was absorbed by the Henry's Blade.
Henry chuckled, another successful fight now time to find some more, he scanned around then looking for his next target, Anubite at his side.
