There's an allure about the night sky that Saskia's never been able to place; she likes the think that it's the same allure that attracted all the scientists of lore, from Newton to Galileo. But she's not here today to disprove a ridiculous study on primordial stars. No, that was last week.

She has a new plan now. It seemed well thought-out back in her cabin, when she was lying on her bunk in front of the glow from her laptop, but now that she's standing in front of the stables, she can't help but wonder if coming here was a good idea. There are just too many things that could go wrong when flying a pegasus. She could fall off, or one of the wings could hit her and then she could fall off, or it could trample her. She's never liked variables. Unless they're the one's you declare in a computer program.

Unfortunately, she wants to study how the pegasi are able to achieve such astonishing feats with such a small wingspan to body ratio. Is it with the same method that birds use, by reducing air pressure above the wing so that the constant air pressure below is induced to move up, thereby lifting the bird? But that can't be possible, because the pegasi simply have too much mass for their relatively meager wingspan to support. It's an anomaly, and she needs to find out why.

Anyways, she got a few tips from a daughter of Iris. She wouldn't think that a child of Iris, goddess of the rainbow, would have a natural affinity for equines, but somehow Greek mythology just works out that way.

Basically, she has a few tricks up her sleeve. Literally. There is a plastic bag of sugar cubes stuffed up her sleeve (hey, she didn't have pockets, and she was running low on time). Hopefully, if she offers them sugar cubes, the pegasus won't throw her off or something like that.

She opens the door as carefully as she can, but it still squeaks on its hinges. It smells surprisingly normal inside and she internally congratulates the cleaning harpies or whatever poor demigod spends their days shoveling out soiled wood shavings. The first pegasus she sees is directly facing her, and is a dappled grey with feathery wings to match. It gives her a look like, you don't belong here, and continues to eat its fodder.

Thankfully, once she offers it a few sugar cubes, she is able to lead it outside towards the riding ring by it's halter without too much difficulty. She didn't know how massive it was until she was standing next to it. Of course, she knew the height of a pegasus in hands from her studies, but seeing one in person is a different thing entirely. It is so tall and sturdily built that it dwarfs her in comparison, without even unfurling its wings.

Saskia's mentally preparing herself to ride the pegasus when she arrives at the entrance to the riding ring and realizes that she is not alone. There's someone else with a pegasus in the center of the ring, and even in the poor evening light Saskia can see the shine of her boots. Cursing her own bad luck, she changes her mind instantly and just when she's about to lead the pegasus away, she sees Cleopatra turn those glittering green eyes on her.

    Just great.

Cleopatra had always loved horses, just the same way she had always loved princess dresses and Disney as a child (granted, she still loved both). But her love for horses drew her to do stuff like late evening rides to see the sunset on the beach, generally with a date, though today she was alone. Stepping down from her pegasus, a cremello mare named Darcy, the daughter of Aphrodite took her time petting her arched neck. The fur was so soft and warm, even through her white gloves. Suddenly she heard the regular but heavy sound of horse hooves behind her and a minute later, a blonde girl poked her head into the riding ring, leading a gray pegasus by it's halter. Cleopatra would've recognized her anywhere: Saskia, from cabin 6. She gave her a once-over, still calmly stroking Darcy's neck. Saskia was in orange tee and combat boots while Cleopatra sported fine white breeches, an equally white shirt, riding boots (with glitter she had sprayed on the heels herself) and a navy buttoned-up blazer, all from Gucci's equestrian collection. Holding her crop, she took off her riding cap and shook her curls free before re-attaching them into a ponytail.

"Fancy seeing you here, darling," she said, her smile glossy with fruity lipstick. As usual she was basking in designer perfume, this time the latest Lancôme fragrance. "Are you out for a secret ride?"

Her tone was innocent and casual; anyone eavesdropping would never have guessed how much Cleopatra disliked Saskia. Her voice made it seem like quite the contrary, as if she really appreciated the girl's presence.
