Name: Amaia Newhaora. Pronounced AH-MAYA NEW-HA-ORAH. Occasionally Amaia will go by Maia, but it is not that common.
Age: 17. She was born on one of the sunniest and hottest days of the year.

Hair: Amaia has dark brown hair in braids that go down her back, there are also a few strands of white braids.

God Parent: Ares, god of war and bloodlust. Ares traveled to NZ back in 1999 for a reason unknown to Amaia. Ares, known as Aaron to Amaia’s mother, met the woman at a rugby match and he was completely  fascinated with the Haka. The two barely interacted after the game had ended and she went home.
Mortal Parent: Anika Newhaora is a 53 year old Māori native who only by luck met the Greek god. Like her daughter, Anika is very stubborn and persistant and will fight for her beliefs until she is 6 feet under. She had no trouble understanding the mythology the father of her child came from, since her own culture was just as vivid.
Country of Origin: New Zeland. Amaia was born in raised in Rotorua and still frequently visits the place.

Talents: Amaia paints, but only in the color red. She also is very good at rugby.

Personality: Amaia is not afraid to speak her mind, which sometimes leads to her saying the wrong things and offend people. She is very strong willed and is unafraid to stand up for herself or for what she believes in. Amaia would fight to the end for her beliefs and has a big desire to prove herself to her peers and family. She easily grows close to people, whether she just met them or they have only talked for an hour. Forming a bond so quickly makes her enraged if someone she is remotely close to gets hurt and she will act out on her feelings. She is very nosy and would get herself in business that she didn’t belong in. Amaia goes on periods where she is obsessed over a topic and will not let it out of her sight until she quickly loses focus on it, she doesn’t have a very long attention span.
Despite needing a lot of friends around her, she doesn’t crave the attention from them, Amaia likes the feeling of someone being nice to her and knowing that someone cares. She doesn’t have much respect for authority because it limits her ability to do what she wants to do.
Amaia has a very dry wit. She is sarcastic and mumbles cutting comments under her breath quite a lot. Her comments are a lot more cutting and mean towards people she doesn’t like. These comments crack herself up, she tends to think she is the funniest person ever.
Flaws: Amaia is hot headed, she is extremely stubborn when she believes she is right, she always procrastinates with every task she has, even if it is an easy task, she isn’t good at processing emotions, and she is a sore loser.

Life Before Camp*: Amaia grew up in the Māori culture, a civilization that has lived in New Zealand since 1300 AD. She has loved being in the water since she was small, and her mother would frequently take her down to the water and the two would play around for hours. When Amaia was three, her mother married Kahu Wikitoria, a second grade teacher. Amaia later had Kahu as her math teacher it was extremely awkward. When the tourism increased and many people traveled to Rotorua, Amaia’s mother grew weary of all the people watching her so when she was 8 the small family moved to Kaikoura.
The idea of Amaia’s father was always in the back of Anika’s mind. Eventually she would have to tell her daughter about him and then send her off to New York. She wanted to keep her daughter close to her, and a whole new country seemed nightmarish to her. The thing that made the most sense to her was to keep Amaia around for as long as she could, but she realized that wasn’t very safe. When Amaia was 13 Anika brought her to New York. During their overly expensive lunch Anika told her daughter everything, and Amaia wasn’t that surprised, which was weird to her mother. Two hours later she was dropped off at Camp’s border.
