"Probably," Theo agreed. "I probably would have left camp early because of all the softies and then the cops would have caught me on the way down the hill. Then I'd been hauled off to Juvie where I slowly would have frozen everything within ten square feet of my person." He grinned at Alex, rather liking this prediction, and kissed her again.

I came up gasping for air, wishing I was the son of a sea god. A face shone from below me. A girl's face. She had brown hair and deep green eyes, and skin as blue as the sky. She giggled at me and tried to pull me under. I huffed and kicked her off, obviously stronger than her, and swam back to shore with a spurt of water hitting me in the back of my head. Stupid naiad.

I looked over my shoulder at the person who was obviously speaking to me. "No." I replied solemnly and turned sharply around, watching the waves lap over eachother far away. I sighed as I pounded my tanned fist in the warm sand, making an imprint in the ground.

I turned my head to the right, refusing to look at him and focusing on some trees instead. Nice trees, there. "My girlfriend's dead. He just 'borrowed' my future one." I said, placing air quotes around "borrowed".

"Two against one," Theo said. "People get hurt all the time, so why waste time trying to avoid hurting them?" It certainly didn't make sense to him. "Just challenge him to open combat. Turning it down would make him look like a coward, if he's Ares then he has pride and he won't risk anyone thinking he's weak."

I frowned in consideration. "Hmmm.....yeah. Hey, yeah, that sounds good. You're pretty wise. Are you an Athenian?" I asked, facing him finally. I eyed him suspiciously. He didn't look like a child of Athena, but hey. I've seen some pretty strange things over the years so it might be possible. But he had a different aura....colder....wilder. Interesting.

"If you can't do it, I can." Theo had few qualms about killing people, or at least hurting them until they begged for mercy. But it wasn't his fight. "Though if he was your friend... I suppose you can let him slide once." He sounded extremely reluctant.
