"Sucks like hell." I took my knife out of the sand and, hesistantly, turned my palm to the sky. I didn't intend to kill myself, so I held my knife to my sideways slantedwrist and cut a thin line.

"Okay, not knowing how to use weapons?" Theo sounded incredulous. "Not only is that insanity in our world, but that's like walking around with a sign around your neck saying: DEFENSELESS DEMIGOD! PLEASE EAT ME!" He waved his hands for emphasis.

"No," Theo said thoughtfully. "Anything can be used as a weapon. And with your strength and experience with one, you'd be pretty formidable. I'd see a Hephaestus kid if I were you to make a celestial one for you. One could inflict some major damage with something like that."

Since the guy wasn't replying, Theo picked up a rock and sent it skimming over the lake. It didn't go quite as far as Alex's though.

I look over at Theo. "You are throwing it wrong. You have to do it like this." I show him the correct motion with my hand, and the rock goes flying, skimming across the lake.

Theo liked to hear her laugh, and he would have bumbled it again just to hear it again, but he also wanted to get it right. This time, the stone skipped seven times before sinking, better than his previous which had only gone about three.

Theo smirked. Hippies were so old school. He'd known a hippie once; she didn't last long. "If there isn't war, then there isn't peace," he commented. "And if there is only peace, then people will never learn the importance of conflict." Bending down, he picked up a stone and skipped it. "The two need each other to exist."
