    Forgotten Empty Forgotten

Post by natewolfe 5/19/2012, 2:14 pm

    Chapter 1
I watched the screen, as another Capitol announcement came on. Katniss Everdeen, Finnick Odair, and Beetee (nobody knows his last name) had escaped the games with help from rebels, who thought they could outsmart the capitol. The announcer told how bad this was, but it was actually good news. Katniss had been in the 74th Hunger Games, and won. If I were picked, I’d win just like her. Unlike her, however, I wouldn’t volunteer. I’m the only one in my family who could be chosen. I wouldn’t volunteer for someone I didn’t know.
Then again, everyone else would have the same thought about me if I were chosen. No one would volunteer for me. They would watch me die and only my family would care. Stop worrying about it; I think to myself, it’s not going to happen.
I wonder how many others are worrying about the same thing across Panem. The reaping for the 76th Hunger Games is tomorrow, and everyone’s frantic about it. I force myself to calm down and go to sleep.
    I’m safe; I thought, I can’t be chosen.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what people would think, but I'm glad someone likes it so far. It gets better towards the end.

    Forgotten Empty Chapter 2

Post by natewolfe 5/19/2012, 5:56 pm

    Chapter 2
I woke up in the morning and saw that my Mom and Dad were ready. I got dressed in a polo shirt and dress pants, the nicest clothes I had. I walked out in the living room. “Nate Wolfe,” my Mom said,”You look very handsome. Good luck at your first reaping, and may the odds be ever in your favor,” she mocked the stupid accent that capitol people always have.
We arrived at the reaping. They took a drop of blood and I went in. They began the reaping with the national anthem loud enough to blow up the amps. Then came the video, recaps of the dark days, an audio voice, and the president. Finally, they started pulling the names.
“Our girl tribute with the honor of representing us in the 76th annual Hunger Games is…” She dug around in the glass bowl, pulled out a slip, and unfolded it. “Lura Adams.” I was struck with horror as my best friend and crush walked to the stage slowly, obviously in mortal terror but keeping it hidden.
“And our boy tribute is…” She yet again dug around in the bowl, and finally pulled one out. “Nate Wolfe.”

    Forgotten Empty Chapter 3

Post by natewolfe 9/19/2012, 5:26 pm

    Chapter 3
My only hope is the rebellion, I thought as I walked reluctantly up to the stage, escorted by the stares of the entire district, as well as two peacekeepers. I stood beside Lura, hoping that if we weren’t saved in time, someone else would kill her before I had to. I was not planning on a lack of return. I will come back. They will save the tributes surely. “I give you your tributes for the seventy-sixth annual Hunger Games!” There were no cheers, and then the peacekeepers escorted everyone out.

“You’re going to love it in the capitol! They have lots of technology there…”
“Which District 3 is forced to make,” I interrupted. “What’s your name anyway?”
“Nitya Selkirk,” answered the lady in her stupid capitol accent. “So, Nitya, you don’t feel the smallest speck of guilt for pulling innocent children on a train to their ultimate demise?”
“No,” Nitya answered,”Wait, what?” Lura and I looked at each other and shook our heads. This was cruel and just plain evil. I clutched my necklace. It was a microchip design that my mother had given me. Though no one noticed, I had stuffed my holo-computer in my pocket. I slid the chip in my pocket and into a slit in the computer module. I loaded a virus onto it and removed. I went to my car without saying a word. I came behind the camera and connected the chip. There was a beep and the red light went out, ensuring the camera was off. I locked my door and covered all the windows. I programmed my home’s number into a communication system I had developed. My mom picked up. I saw her face as she asked, “Nate?”
“Yeah, Mom, I told you I had made a communication system. I’m using it right now.”
    “Oh.”
“Use the program that’s open now to call me any time, or send me messages.” Someone knocked on the door, and I stuffed the computer into my pocket. I uncovered the window and unlocked the door. A peacekeeper came in and looked at me. “No locked doors allowed this year.” I was worried he knew about the computer or the camera, but he just turned and left. I laid in bed, but was worried they’d search through my stuff while I was asleep, so I used the computer to find a hiding place in the wall for my computer and chip. I laid down again, and this time, drifted to sleep.

    Chapter 3-

We arrived at the training center late because of broken track, and had to wait a whole day on the still train. I thought we had enough food to last a lifetime, but not Nitya. She was worried to no end about how she would “starve” if she didn’t get her hourly feast. I finally got so sick of it that I went outside until the track was fixed.
When we got to the training center, the other tributes were already training. There were three I was particularly worried about. The boy from District Two, who was throwing 5oo lb. weights as if they were bags of feathers. The Girl from District One, who was practicing slitting a dummy’s throat at lightning speed. And finally, the boy from District Ten, who was sniping the dummies from model trees with a bow and arrow. Every time, he hit right on the heart, neck, or head.
    “We’re dead,” I told Lura.
    “I second that,” she replied.
I wasn’t even sure what weapons I was good at. I tried the bow and arrow, but gave up when I almost put out my own eye. I tried weights, but could only lift ten pounds with both arms, and couldn’t hit the target. I tried traps, and got my own leg caught in the trap. I tried camouflage, and was actually pretty good at it. All I had to do was think of little pixels making up my body, and decide on how to paint them. I decided that I couldn’t just hide from the others until they all died off, or I would too. I went to daggers, and was mortified by the District One girl. Her name tag said, “Hi! I’m Savera Lapworth!” I went to pick up a dagger. I ran at one of the dummies silently, then jumped on its shoulders. I knocked it over, then stabbed the crap out of the head, which released artificial blood that spewed all over my shirt and face. Everyone froze and stared at me like I was a lunatic, or possibly even a threat.
“What?” was my only response to the stares. Everyone returned to training. For Lura, that meant slicing off a dummy’s head with twin swords. She turned and looked at me, and saw that we were both splattered with artificial blood. She flipped her golden blonde hair and laughed, and I did to, for the first time since the reaping.
I walked to the elevator, drenched in artificial blood and dyes. I got on, and turned to see Savera Lapworth. She snorted at me and looked away, as if I were not worth her time. I saw that she wore a charm bracelet, with a charm that had a picture in it. It was a picture of her and her family.
“You didn’t volunteer, did you?” I asked.

“I begged someone to volunteer for me, but since the war started, everyone was too afraid,” she cried. We were outside her room now, and I was feeling sorry for her. She wasn’t like all the other careers. The guy from her district came out of the elevator, and Savera stuffed me in her room leaving me just enough time to see the guy. He had a green Mohawk, a nose piercing, and was wearing ripped skinny jeans with a ripped black t-shirt and a leather jacket. His name tag had been ripped to get rid of the “Hi! My name is:” part, so it just said, “SKULL.” I heard this.
“What’re you doin’ out here?” asked skull threateningly.
    “Just…standing,” replied Savera.
“Okay…” Skull left. Savera opened the door, but I was still leaning on it to listen, so I fell. My computer fell out of my pocket, and Savera saw it. I stuffed it back in my pocket so the camera couldn’t identify it.
“You’re not going to tell, are you?” was my first response to the situation.
“About what?” Savera asked, then winked and went in her room.
I took the elevator to floor 3 and went to my room. On the door, there was a note, pinned by an arrow.
“Stay away from Savera, or pay the price. She will for betraying us.” It was signed by some guy named Wade Naysmith, who I know is the District Ten boy because number one, he’s the only one who uses a bow and arrow, and number two, I saw him leave by the elevator.
