I nod and instinctively take his hand. I start to run with him..what if it was one of those things that set fire to everything?I started to get even more scared.

Lucas ran with her, completely not knowing where they were going. As he dodged and weaved between people, he kept glancing back at the creature, who of course wasn't letting up. For some strange reason, though, no one else seemed to notice it. He held onto her hand tightly, not wanting to let her go.

I quickly hailed us a taxi hoping that there was enough distance and time that we could get in the taxi. I froze as I got a better look at it. "Oh god! No no no! That thing spews fire....we have to go now!" I said panicking.

I got in with him and told the driver to step on it. "We have to go out side of the city. I have the address somewhere" I said and looked through my pocket with shaking fingers. Expecting to see fire shooting at us at any moment.

Lucas looked back at the creature as it roared in defeat. Wow, he thought, Narrowly escaped that... thing. He looked up at the driver who was apparently unconcerned. Had he not noticed the strange monster chasing them?

I found the paper and told the driver the address. "So I guess you won't be going to school today...sorry about that." I whispered softly trying not to think.

Lucas glanced down and noticed her hand was still in his. It wasn't until then that he noticed the burns on her face. That's what it was, he thought, A fire. "Do you know how far this place is?" he asked her.

I shake my head softly. "No, I just know it's a little bit out from the city." I said not noticing my hand in his. I avoided looking at him and just watched out the window feeling sad again now that the moment of panic was over.

Lucas wished he knew how to help her. He stared out the window quietly, trying to imagine what kind of place she was taking him to. Some sort of safe-haven, he hoped.

The cab driver pulled up to the side of a large hill with a pine tree on it and asked me if I was sure this is it. I told him it was and paid him with the cash that I was going to use at the book store. I got out letting go of lucas' hand as I did so.

Lucas glanced at the hill, which didn't seem like much of the "safe-haven" he had hoped for. He frowned but got out of the car anyway.

"I think it's over the hill just a bit" I said biting my lip and looking up at the tree on the hill. This wasn't the place my dad described.

Lucas glanced around briefly, just checking for anymore of those animal-monster-things. "Well... Let's just check it out," he suggested once he determined that the cost was clear.
