The barber shop

Oblivious appeared in the shop, looking at the barbers around, most where aged to around 40-50, but one looked young, Oblivious saw a woman behind a cash register and walked over"how much do hair cuts cost?" I asked the woman.

The woman looked up casually, frowning at Oblivious. "Fifteen bucks," she said to him, glancing at a large sign listing prices behind her. Because of the Mist, it had looked like Oblivious had just strolled in to the shop.

I appeared in a shadowy alleyway, glancing around with my book in hand.... Well, where the heck was I? I walked out of the alleyway and found myself between a little convenience store and a barber's shop; I turned and walked into the barber shop, seeing Oblivious talking to a woman behind a cash register.

The woman nodded, waving at a man with a handlebar mustache sitting in a chair, reading the newspaper. "Oi, Brad! We've got another." She pulled open the cash register, put the bill inside, and took out a five dollar bill, holding it out to Oblivious. "Go over to Brad, he'll give you your cut."

Brad grunted, putting on his glasses so he could see properly. "So, sonny, what kind of cut do you want? A proper shave?"

I sat down in an empty chair in the corner of the room and recommenced rereading my book, sighing to myself as I flipped through the pages.

"Shoulder length, eh?" Brad grunted, putting something that looked like a cape over Oblivious's front. He frowned at Oblivious's hair and nodded to himself, snatching up a pair of scissors. "Nothing fancy to the bottom, right?"

Brad nodded and began to cut, long locks of hair falling to the floor or down Oblivious's front.

Page thirty.... I yawned -- how long was this going to take? I played with the corner of the page as I read, skimming through the descriptions and dialogue.

About ten or so minutes later, Brad had reduced Oblivious's hair length to shoulder-length; he stepped back and frowned, nodding slowly. "Well, this look okay to you, kid?"

Brad frowned at the five-dollar bill in his hand, and then stuck it into the tip jar on the counter beside the woman.

I stood up, stretching with the book still in my hand. "Well, let's get back to camp now, shall we?"
