Lan could say that the ten minutes of his life he just witnessed where his worst ever. Nothing like getting berated by an intimidating centaur. Lan had kept his head down and just replied "Yes sir" whenever he was addressed. Chiron had reprimanded them for being so careless and stupid. He had said that too. Called them stupid. Lan would've never thought that the centaur would ever say something like that. He had never seen Chiron so angry before; lashing out at demigods. Lan honestly thought that the centaur would strike him down. Lan had quickly been snapped out of his state of drowsiness when he heard the sound of Chiron's hooves stamp across the ground as he approached the two. Lan tried to intervene and say that it was all his fault, but every time he tried he was cut off and glared at. Kathrianne didn't deserve to be punished. This was all Lan's fault. He was so stupid. Why did he have to move before he thought? If only he could really just control himself and learn to think first. One of the boy's many flaws right there: he was impulsive.
After getting berated some more, Chiron left the two kids. Lan had managed to convince him to get Kathrianne out of doing work though. Lan would've felt terrible if she was punished for his actions. The boy had been doled out quite a bit of punishment though. He was on dish cleaning for three weeks, which was a very bad thing for him. At camp, dishes were washed with lava, which was hot. Heat never got along with Lan. Along with that, Lan was to do 'community service' which was picking up trash lazy kids had thrown in the forest. Good thing he would only have to do that once; next Friday. The boy was charged with one last task as well. His final job was to figure everything out. It was no doubt the hardest task of them all. He was to figure out how to get this 'door' to appear and open it. He was to go inside the door and search everything. No doubt it was dangerous. Just the way Chiron talked about it made a chill go down Lan's spine. The centaur knew something about the wall that no one else did, or so it seemed. Once Chiron was gone, Lan let's out a large sigh and slumps down, his back against the rock. He looks up to Kathrianne, his face white with shock from their conversation with Chiron.
"I--I'm sorry about that. I'm sorry I got you in trouble. Gods, I'm such a f#cking idiot!" Lan growls, slamming his fist into the soft dirt that made up the ground. Words could not describe how he felt at the moment. The boy still had a major headache and was extremely tired. There was no time for him to sleep now. No doubt Chiron would send someone to look after them secretly. It was something Lan could see the centaur doing. The boy slowly rises up to his feet and brushes off his jeans, his left fist red from the contact with the ground. He felt no pain though. Pain was something he was used to . . . a little bit too much.
"Well, it was nice knowing you," Lan tells Kathrianne as he hangs his head to look at her. The boy's face was a sign of deflation. He felt just so . . . so stupid! Why did he have to do these things? This could've all been easily avoided if the boy just thought. Lan slowly makes his way over to the wall, his body staggering, for it barely had the strength to carry his weight, Might as well not keep his death waiting though.
