some kids were sleeping when santa hermes came in with a present. they all looked so peaceful. maybe the trickster should pull a prank.
anyway, he had found the bunk. the gift from demeter was wrapped nicely with green and brown wrapping paper. as soon as he left the gift he was out of the cabin.

Derek woke up in the morning and found a gift wrapped in green and brown paper. A smile crept across his face as he slowly unwrapped it. The gift probably was the result of their little meeting in the field the other day. Nevertheless he opened the gift and found a small bag. There was a small note on the side.

    Dear, Derek,
This is a gift from me to you, hope you enjoy the gift.
    Love, Mom

Derek's smile grew more as he read the note. He slowly undid the golden lace and opened the bag. Inside there were twelve seeds.

Jana Kay hopped into the Demeter cabin, her long blonde hair raining down to her waist in thin streaks. She was wearing a Frozen shirt with capri trousers and sandals James had decorated with shells he had gotten himself in the ocean. She had ladybug earrings, her beaded necklace around her neck and tomato-red streaks in her hair. Her highland dirk hung at her side.

"Hey Derek!" she beamed as she saw her brother, hugging him. "What's up? I'm coming back from archery -- I'm getting better, I manage to hit the red circle now."

Derek looked up to see his half-sister, Jana. "Hey, there, JK." He smiled warmly and hugged her back, putting his gift to the side of him. "Nothing much just looking at my gift."The son of Demeter moved over so Jana Kay could sit down next to him. "That's good! I'm sure mother would be proud." He nudged her a bit. Jana was one of the few people who made him feel happy; which was hard during the fall and winter months.

She grinned; she wasn't bad at archery but nobody outshot the Apollo's of course. "Oh my gods, you got a gift from Mum? What is it? That's so great!!" She loved it when Demeter sent them presents for solstice, it was such an amazing feeling to see the nicely wrapped package in green and gold at the foot of the bed, sometimes with a little note if you were lucky. She was truly happy for Derek, that was so awesome!

"Yeah! It is actually. She gave me, like twelve seeds..." He said in thought as he showed Jana the pouch. "Oh! Did I tell you about my meeting with her in the fields? It was beautiful.." Derek smiled warmly and crossed his arms. " I wish you were there to show the experience with me."

"You met... Mum? In the fields? How come you tell me about it only now?" she grinned, nudging him in the side.

Visiting the gods in Olympus was something but having them meet up with you on earth, that was an experience Jana Kay yet wanted to have.

Derek laughed a bit, cracking his knuckles. "I guess it just slipped my mind? I don't know." It was true, he had forgotten to tell JK. There goes his absentmindedness again." She was so beautiful, just like the mythology books said..." Derek placed a hand over his heart at the thought of her. "I bet she's better during the Spring and Summer though."

"I heard she tends to be a bit grumpy in winter, but Camp Half-Blood has summer year round (except if Mr D decides otherwise), so I guess that's why she could visit you now."

She wasn't offended by the fact it had slipped his mind, a lot of demigods had that (oh there you are, ADHD), but still she felt a bit sad. Quickly forgetting that, she itched closer. "So! What did you two talk about? Your new crush, hmmmm?" she grinned, wriggling her eyebrows.

He nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that's true." Derek snorted, fighting back a laugh. "Crush? Yeah, okay. That's funny. No one likes me here. Well, not in that way at least." He stated with a slight sigh. "Well I gave her all the Mother's Day cards that I had made for her for the past seventeen years and we talked about immortally...things like that."

"The past seventeen years?" Jana Kay asked. "But aren't you like, seventeen? How did you make Mother's Day cards when you were a baby?"

She knew the struggle though. Herself, she had been writing letters to Demeter ever since she knew she was her mother. She would write it in her best hand-writing, most of the time in Ancient Greek to avoid dyslexia mistakes, before putting it into a colorful envelope she'd decorate with squiggles of flowers and suns, and then placing the envelope somewhere in a field, where she felt close to Demeter. She'd check on the envelopes every day, sometimes they stayed there for a couple of days but they always disappeared and Jana Kay liked to think Demeter had taken them, knowing full well it could have also simply been the wind blowing them away.

He sighed and shook his head a bit. "I'm pretty sure my dead help me with my first three."Derek stated before pulling out a seed from the pouch. The seed was a gold color, almost like corn. "I wonder what these are though...." He mumbled, examining the seed for any answers.

"Isn't there some explanatory thing? Some kind of guide written in tiny font like in Ikea?" she asked before breaking into a grin.

She briefly imagined Demeter shipping Ikea presents like Fruggeburg deckchairs or something.

"Uh..." Derek looked around him, checking for the letter that came with it. He finally found it under some green wrapping paper and handed it to her. "Uh, maybe it's on the back of this." He stated and cracked his knuckles.

"Oh gods, don't give that to me, I can't read straight," she said, taking the paper and realizing it was in Ancient Greek. Which naturally made the reading process much better. "Okay so the seeds have powers apparently. Here," she said, handing him the paper back but reading over his shoulder, as excited as he probably was.

"Powers? That's so cool!" Derek squinted his eyes, trying to read the fine print. "Uh, it says here that each seed came be used once to produce a full grown plant. However the plant that you wish to grow must yield some type of produce." After reading the note, Derek raised an eyebrow. "This sounds cool. Wanna try it out?" He asked Jana Kay with a slight smile on his face.

"Whoa whoa whoa, don't tell me you're gonna waste one like that," Jana Kay said. "I mean... damn, that's a pretty badass gift Mum sent you. Imagine fighting a monster and making a baobab grow right under their feet."

She briefly pictured a Laistrygonian giant all the way up there like, hey can someone help me down?

Derek gave himself a mental face-palm and nodded quickly. "Of course! I should use these wisely. How many are in the pouch? Twelve? Yeah I better be careful with these." He laughed a bit. "But honestly, I can't wait to try one out."

"Haha, figures!" Jana Kay grinned. "But how about ... a plant fight, hmmm?" she asked, wriggling her eyebrows again.

Derek and her often did what they called plant fights, which was basically fighting but only with their powers. They'd throw flowers and vegetables at each other until the perimeter around them was a huge mix of daisies and tomatoes. It was pretty fun.

"Heck yeah! Let's do it!" The son of Demeter hopped up from the bed and placed the pouch of special seeds underneath his pillow. He grabbed his coat and headed out the back door of the green cabin. "I hope you're ready for this."

"I hope you're ready, sir. How did the onions feel last time?" she teased him, referring to when she had made an onion fly at his face.

She took a strawberry from the bowl in the middle of the room and followed Derek outside. They chose a patch of grass some yards away from the cabins and stood three meters apart. Jana Kay put her hands on her hips and stuck her ribcage out like Superman.

    "Come at me bro!"

"The onions smelled wonderful dear sister." He smiled at her teasingly. "Oh, did those blueberries stains ever come out of that beautiful white blouse you had?" Derek countered as he pointed to the earth in front of him. Soon a pea plant grew in front of him.

    "Let's get it, Posion Ivy!"
