Spencer was waiting for Phil at the Decumarian gate, backpack on her shoulder. She was wearing a white crop top under a vivid yellow tank top, open at the sides and loosely tied at the hips. A slightly ripped denim jacket, white capri trousers and high-tops completed her outfit, her cornrows falling down her shoulders freely. Where was Phil? They had agreed on meeting at the gate at 11 am. She hoped he hadn't gotten another bogus duty like weed the Fields of Mars or something.

Phil was sure he was late. Great. Spencer would be dissapointed. A lot. But he had an excuse. That unfortunately didn't sound real, even though it was. Apparently he wasn't so good at returning stolen stuff and, uh, he learnt that his cabinmate didn't appreciate the use his toothbrush got. Luckily he was good at dodging, then the Kool-aid holic centurion calmed the guy down. Which let Phil prepare, pack et cetera. He had even made his hair! Well, at least, they were less messy. A little. He was wearing a white T-shirt with the words Very Organised Thief printed on it, and a caricature of a thief holding a bag, with his jeans and trainers, also a backpack on his... back.

When he saw Spencer, his heart skipped a bit, even if he wouldn't admit. Damn she looked good! And the part he would probably never admit, damn he likef her a lot! He approached her, trying to be cool. He had that semi-challenging crooked grin on his face. "Ready to escape? Ready to go on an... adventure?"

Ah there he was! Spencer grinned back. "To infinity! And beyond!" she joked and punched his shoulder in a friendly way. "Nice shirt by the way, man." Together, the two probatio walked through the gate and crossed the Little Tiber, chatting and chuckling. A couple of minutes later they were out of the Caldecott Tunnel and heading to San Francisco, the Golden Gate bridge gleaming a faint red in the distance.

"So I kinda wanna visit the aquarium of the bay, is that okay with you?" Spencer asked as they followed the road to the city.

He smiled at her initial joke, it meant she wasn't annoyed by him being late. After a brief chat she told him she would like to go to the aquarium, and asked if it was cool with him. He smiled. "Whatever you want. l have no preferences whatsoever. Aquarium it is." He really didn't bother with anything, just getting away from camp, even after so few days, was relieving of its own. With Spencer, it was also enjoyable. "So, what have you planned exactly?"

"Just the aquarium, then I thought we could get burritos? Cause we said we would -- and eat them in some park if you want, weather's good enough."

Spencer dug her hands into her pockets, her colorful athlete bracelets jiggling around her wrists. "What about you, is there anything you wanna do particularly?"

Phil nodded. "Burritos are unquestionable. Now, uh... l really have no idea what else to do. I'd be more comfortable with you choosing. Just, don't get us killed, l'm fairly certain Tiberia wants the honour to kill me." He flashed a smile at her, to encourage her choose. He hated choices or taking responsibilities.

"Phil c'mon. You're hanging out with the daughter of luck. What could possibly happen?"

(As it turned out, quite a lot.)
It took them some time to get to the aquarium with the bus, but they eventually made it, bought their tickets, and went to the first part of the exhibit. Watery light seeped through the aquariums, movement fluttered here and there, alguae and anemones swayed softly in the current. The African American demigod immediately went to the first one she saw, examining the fish and eels. "Wow, look at this one!" Spencer grinned, pointing at a vivid orange Garibaldi fish. "It looks like a toy!"

The exhibits in the aquarium were A-W-E-S-O-M-E. Every part of the exhibits was exotic and interesting. Different kind of fishes in multiple colours, whose species' names he wouldn't attempt to read, were everywhere. Also, he was sure there were sharks later in the exhibition. God this place was amazing! "As if it's the only. Everything here is so extraordinary it could be mistaken for artificial. Great choice to come here Spence." he said, his face beaming.

Spencer grinned back at Phil; she was really happy to see he liked it so much. Seemed like a promising afternoon with a good friend.

They spent the next half hour going from aquarium to aquarium, admiring the swirling schools of anchovies, gleaming pink rockfish and streaked perches, though the Moray eel freaked her out. "Ew, did you see, this thing has two jaw sets," she told Phil, pointing at the vivid yellow eel undulating in the water behind the pane. The beast looked nasty but knowing it had a second jaw inside designed to pull the prey directly into its stomach made it look even worse in Spencer's eyes. Turning away, she pointed to an exit, "Come on, let's go to the touch pools!"

They spent half an hour in that room, and he wasn't bored for a second. The spectacle was plain amazing. All these kinds of fish made a greatpicture. Then Spencer suggested going to the touch pools, which were exactly what the name suggested. He nodded to her as they went where these were. There were many pools, some filled with tortoises, others with dolphins etc.And of course he just ran from pool to pool touching everything like he was a little kid. Little did he care though. The place was plain mindblowing and he intended to enjoy every moment there. "Freaking awesome, huh?" He shouted at Spencer that was at the other side of the room.

"Kickass!" she called back, petting a large black bat ray before moving to the leopard shark pool. Dipping her hand inside, she waited for the small, mottled sharks to brush against her skin though immediately drew it out as one started to nibble at it. "Freaky," she muttered, taking a step back. "Yo, Webb, have you seen the swell sharks over here?"

Phil grinned. "Seen and touched everything this place has to offer, Ramsay. Are you covered so that we shall continue?" He didn't mind if she said she wanted to stay a little more in that room, it kicked serious butt. Then again, this whole place was just... woah. Everything was awesome and brought the little kid from inside him on the surface.

"Just five more minutes," Spencer grinned, going back to the turtle pool and scratching the animals under the chin, patting their shells. The things were really funny. Spencer stayed there for a couple of minutes before going to the underwater tunnels with Phil.

Here, everything was blue and undulated with liquid light; Spencer fell quiet and looked up, her hands flat against the polished pane. A necklace of phosphorescent jellyfish pulsated overhead, eerie and elegant like ghosts. Somewhere to her right, a giant octopus settled down on a rock, wrapping its tentacles around it softly while glittering fish swam all around in a large palette of colors. It was like being in the sea (except without the drowning and pressure and stuff), and Spencer opened her mouth in amazement. "Webb, you see this? Good god -- I mean, good gods -- I've never been to anything like this!"

"Yeah, of course. Won't blame ya, the place is awesome." Phil said smiling, just looking around -and mostly towards Spencer. After a couple minutes, they went on to check out the underwater tunnels, that sounded really promising. And looked even fahking more. It made him wanna cry tears of joy. It was literally like being in the sea and even better. The fish were swimming around so close he was sure he could touch them. Luckily he came to his senses before trying it out. "Tell me about it. " he said, his voice almost a wishper in awe.

Spencer and Phil stayed a good ten minutes in the first tunnel, admiring the fish and pointing at stuff; finally they moved on to the next tunnel, which was more impressive because they had literal sharks and sturgeons roaming the water above their heads. As she looked up at a shark's white belly and pointed fins, she couldn't help but wonder what'd happened if the tunnel suddenly broke apart... was it even possible? No, the glass was secure, tested bunches of times, plus thousands of people had been here and none of them had died so logically, everything should be okay. Still, the sight of all these sharp-teethed predators just casually swimming above her head made the hero nervous; however she grew the biggest smile at the sight of the elegant stingrays. One of them laid itself flat on a side of the tunnel and Spencer put her hand against the pane as if she could touch the fish through the glass.

"Freaky, but so cool," she grinned, looking back up at a large Sevengills shark drifting by above their heads.

After a GREAT stay at the first tunnel, it was time to visit the second. Which had sharks. Living sharks. Freaking SHARKS. Arguably the coolest moment in his life, maybe except not getting his ass kicked at his first war games. He was fairly sure he stood with his mouth hanging so he looked at Spencer's direction. She was mindblown herself. That only made him grin, before fixing his attention to the predators once again. The spectacle was awe-inspiring. The sharks that usually were so intimidating to most people were just swimming peacefully and gracefully, so close to them, one would get the illusion they could touch them. He then heard what Spencer had muttered. "I think that in this case, freaky and cool are synonyms." he said smiling.

Spencer grinned back at him, his face undulating with blue-ish light. Sure she did miss Albuquerque, her friends, the athletics team and the whole life she had lead back there, but she was part of something else now, something bigger, and just being here with Phil made her feel really good and at ease, like she actually belonged somewhere.

    Then it ended.
A big shadow passed overhead and Spencer glanced up out of reflex: a huge shark was sailing above, much bigger than any she had ever seen before. It also looked much more dangerous.

"Do you see that, oh my g--" The shark sped right at them and crashed against the tunnel's ceiling. The glass shuddered. It swam back then shot itself at the ceiling again. A crack appeared, Spencer's eyes widened. "Move!" She grabbed Phil's wrist and started running down the tunnel as the third crash echoed but she wasn't fast enough. The fourth crash made the tunnel implode in a cataclysmic noise and next thing Spencer knew she was ripped right off her feet by a wave of churning water mixed with sharp glass and slimy fish bodies. She screamed, but immediately swallowed water, her body flung and hurled around, crashing painfully into random objects she couldn't possibly identify. Something hit her side, opening a gash and she felt her eyes sting in response to the pain. The force of the water's impact had made her lose grip on Phil and if there was one thing she wanted right now, it was to know where he was.
She came to a gliding halt on the museum floor next to a surgeon who was helplessly flipping around on the floor. Soaked, drenched, cold and shivering, Spencer laid there for a moment, wheezing and coughing up water. When finally she knelt up, she realized she had far more cuts than she had registered... And they stung like hell.

"Phil!" she croaked, still bent forwards and breathing with difficulty. She spat out some more water. "Phil?"

Phil sucked at many things. One of them was handling difficult situations. When the shark-on-roids hit the ceiling, the only reason he didn't die was Spencer grabbing him and trying to get away. He himself was busy thinking if the shark could actually do it. Then the water and the shattered glasses came 'out of nowhere' because he was too much of a doofus and he hadn't taken initiation. He had survived the glasses and the water, the glasses making various cuts, with the worse being a scar above his right eye, hinting that he had survived Voldemort. Or that he was a discount Joker in the making. He tried picturing it, to ease the pain. 'Do you wanna know, how l got this scar?' Nah, too much of a copy. Anyway, he tried to get up, his ears buzzing and him only hearing his blood pressure. He looked around and saw Spencer shouting at him. After a few seconds he was able to listen normally. He decided to shout at her, because she hadn't quite noticed him yet. "Over he-"His sentence ot interrupted because of what he saw emerging behind Spencer. It was a huge fish-y lion-y thingy.... uh, let me try this again. Big, nasty, scary and dangerous. He gulped. He did't say anything but hopefully she would see in his expression what was wrong. Oh well, he should give it a rry. "FAHKING RUN!" That was good enough. He knew the chances of outrunning the monster were less than those of Wizards winning the NBA Playoffs, so he started searching for his backpack, where his gladius was, before realizing it was conviently placed on his back. He got his sword out of there and ran towards the monster. Why? That's a great question. Uh, because YOLO? Good enough.

"Are you MAD?" she shouted as he ran at the monster with his golden gladius. They were probatii -- freaking recruits. Having made it to Camp Jupiter on their own didn't make them heroes, and they simply didn't know enough to take on a monster. Sure Spencer knew how to wield a gladius but she had trained against a demigod, not some kind of animal mutant thing. "Let's get the hell out of here!"

Phil stopped at his tracks, literally between Spencer and the monster, coming at his senses. His 'plan' was to give Spencer a way to escape and... that was it. Finito la musica. And Phil too, probably. The monster hadn't attacked yet, probably too amused to do so. He backed off as he replied to Spencer. "You really think we can outrun this thing? You watch too much Flash." And with that, he grabbed her hand and started running away from the monster, who ha finally got bored of their-and mostly his- probatio-ness. "If anyone asks us at Camp, we killed it very heroically and legionnairily."

"There's nothing like watching too much Flash."

Holding Phil's hand tightly, she sprinted through the aquarium like the Hunger Games had just started. Visitors had vacated the area but staff people were flooding in, trying to do something for the dying fish. Slipping on the wet ground, Spencer managed to keep up her pace and dragged Phil behind her, however the thing was fast -- very fast. It had a weird way of moving, running with its front lion legs while its fish body slithered behind.

"What is this thing??" Spencer said as she jumped over the slippery body of a shark, racing out of the room. She had been attending monster defense classes in the Legion but they were still doing the basics: Underworld dogs, centaurs, Scythian dracaenae and all that. Not weird fish-lion mutants.

"This way!" she said, running left, only to find herself in front of a huge aquarium filled with yellow fish several meters later. Sht. "Err -- other way!"

Running in cold wet clothes was uncomfortable and hindering, and she knew they were losing precious seconds. Behind them, the monster let out a deafening roar. They had to get out as fast as possible -- once in the crowds of San Francisco, they might have a chance to shake the thing off.

Counting the times Spencer was saving him today, Phil almost felt uncomfortable. First she had saving him from being glasscut to death, thenfrom foolishly charging the literal sea lion, and now she was guiding-dragging him through the whole Aquarium. When she asked what the thing was he had many replies to give. Non of them close to accurate. He decided to keep running in silence untill Spencer revealed the 'escape plan'. He then felt the need to protest. "But can't it kill mortals too? I mean, won't we have to fight it at some point?"Wow, he sounded way more thrilled about fighting the bastard kid of a lion and a shark than he actually was. In truth what he wanted the most right now was to teleport with Spencer somewhere for a romantic dinner. Or even better, burritos. Actually, only the latter. Oh well, at least they were getting closer to the exit.

"Uh, it's pretty much after us, pal," Spencer said, almost running into a wall as she dared a glance over her shoulder. Then she slipped and fell to the ground, gliding a meter on the floor thanks to her wet clothes. That was the problem for her: whenever she was scared, stressed or somehow didn't feel lucky, bad luck was coming her way real fast.
Her knees hurt but she grabbed onto Phil and stood back up just the moment the lion-fish burst into the room they were in. It slithered/paced towards them, emitting a kind of strange, gurgling growl.

"Seems like the 'l' in my luck has been changed to an 'f' today," Spencer muttered. "Uh okay I think we should split up, you go that way I go the oth-- Aaaahhh!"

The monster had jumped straight at them, forcing Spencer to leap to the right while pushing Phil to the left. The monster now stood between them, flicking its tail impatiently while baring its long yellow fangs. Now she had it in front of her, Spencer realized it really was huge...like a real life lion basically. With the tale of some kind of eel/shark/thing.
She tore her bag open and took out her golden pugio, the blade shimmering and glowing in the watery light. Why was it so freaking short, why couldn't she have some super long sword she could poke into monster's eyes while safely standing two meters away?
She had to be extra careful, if she wanted to stab the thing, if she came close to its head not only could he gut her with one bite but he could also get her with his paws.
Oh come on! Do you wanna get into the Legion or not?
I gotta get to the sides, she thought, but the thing was charging her again already, jumping at her with the paws held out. Its bronze claws flashed up.
Spencer's ADHD kicked in and without remembering how her brain gave the order, her pugio slashed at the soft underside of the sand-colored paws. The lion head roared and fell back, licking the gashes now oozing green blood.

And for a record of four times in... 10 minutes approximately, Phil had his life saved. Spencer had once again reacted 100x more appropriately to the situation and pushed him to the opposite direction. Now a big scary Lion fish mutant was standing between the probatios. Then he saw Spencer stabbing it in its paws, which woke him up from the disbelief of the whole situation. The monster was licking its wounds distracted. Well, time to see if his general stealth could work in more things than just stealing.

He quietly approached the beast and stabbed it. With all his power and rage. The result: a big bad wound for the monster. That just angered it. It turned and roared in Phil's face, causing him to quickly back off from the thing. But it wouldn't just let him. It quickly pounced towards him and tried to hit him with both his font legs' claws. He instinctively lifted his gladius and hit the one paw, the one that was already wounded. The second though did hit him, resulting in his one scar finding company. Luckily, the pain the beast felt by that hit in its previous gash didn't allow it to bury his claws in the son of Mercury's skull and kill him, but Phil was hurt. He exclaimed in pain, just like the beastand they both backed off. If he didn't know Spencer was with him he was sure he had just seconds before the beast would charge at him and this time kill him.

Spencer didn't lose time and jumped straight at the monster, grabbing the body right where it morphed into a fishtail and tried to wrestle it to the ground. Of course, that was counting without the fact she was 105 lbs of light bones and teenage meat against probably three times that much of Tartarus-forged muscles. The demonic lionfish (punny hehe) wriggled and her hands slipped on the sharp blue scales, cutting into her pink palms. But she had to keep her grip, else the thing would kill Phil. She had to do her best, to keep it up, to hold on so she could give him the time to get the Pluto out of here.

Mom, if you hear me, please please help, she thought with all her strength.
It felt like a click, but in that point, she suddenly felt good. As if she had just drank one of the smoothies her father always made for the two of them. Looking at the mane in front of her, she snapped her fingers, feeling energy leave her as she cast the luck spell. Then her ears died.

In a deafening crash, one of the ceiling panels broke down and fell straight onto the lionfish's head, miraculously sparing Spencer who leaped out of the way, her wet cornrows flying. A shower of white sparks flew up. Her ears still hurting and ringing, she grabbed her pugio again and looked at the flailing monster in front of her. Time to be strong, she told herself and before she could chicken out, she raced over to it, digging the blade to the guard into the neck of the lion, straight through the fluffy mane.
