Lily's bunk

Darcy grinned, slowly clapping with sarcasm. "Mhm."

"I haven't been this scared since I fought a drakon in the woods." She winced at the memory. "How do you even do a makeover?"

Darcy realized something. "oh..im sort of pressuring you into this..sorry."

"No, I really don't mind, you can go ahead." Inwardly she was slightly terrified, but oh well. You could get rid of makeup... Right?

"You sure?' Darcy questioned.

"Yes," she said, a little exasperated. "I'm sure."

"Lily...It's not that bad." Darcy gave her a hopeful smile.

Lily smiled back. "Look. Darcy. I am sure. Do your worst. Or best. Preferably best."

Darcy giggled. "Cmon, we're going to my cabin.'

"Okay. Let's hope I don't choke on all the fragrance - no offense."

Darcy chuckled and walked into her cabin, grabbing makeup bag and moving to one of the vanities.

Jana Kay knocked on the door, a cheerful smile on her lips. "Hello?" The lanky 14 years old was wearing a camp shirt, comfy shorts and mismatched converse shoes, her hair braided with apple blossoms. She was holding a round berry cake against her chest, decorated with crisp little meringues in the shape of lilies.

Darcy glanced over, and smiled. 'Uhm, sorry..I shouldn't be in this cabin..I'm a daughter of Aphrodite.' She explained.

Lily glanced up at the girl who had just walked in, her stormy grey eyes, classic of a child of Athena, looking half friendly and half having the slightly disconcerting effect of her examining the newcomer for weaknesses. "Hi?"

"Oh hey. You're Lily right? I'm Jana Kay. I came back to camp like a few days ago so I didn't get the chance to meet you. I make a cake for each newcomer and had a little free time this morning, so I thought, hey, why not make one for you too?" She had said all this in a cheerful voice full of her Scottish accent, leaning on one hip. "So, here you go. It's a berry cake and I added the little meringue lilies cause well, your name is Lily. And I like puns."

Darcy stood out of the way, suddenly shy.

"Oh," she said, looking surprised and maybe just a little touched by the gift. "Um, thank you," she said, reaching out to take the cake, then pausing in sudden realisation at the other girl's accent. "Wait, you're from Scotland too?" Her accent was a little weakened by her time in the US but it was still very strong.

Jana Kay's eyes widened. "No way! You too?" Laughing and clapping her hands, she stepped forward. "I'm from Stirling! Where are you from?"

She grinned, relaxing slightly and leaning back in her bed. "Inverness. And you, what cabin are you from?"

"Me?" Darcy asked, her British accent clear.

"Cabin 4! We're neighbours!" Jana Kay turned to Darcy, feeling bad that she was left out of the conversation a little. "So sorry, Darcy, but she's the first other Scot I meet! This is so great!"

"Its fine, dear.' Darcy replied gracefully, smiling.

Lily smiled. She hadn't seen anyone else from Scotland in ages, not since her father's death. Tucking a loose strand of black hair behind her ear, she glanced at the cake, suddenly hungry. "How about we eat this?"
