"...No...They don't really teach that in school."

After that little lesson, I spat out the one thing that made sense to say at the time: "Ok, I'll try to not be a Samnite."

Tiberia relaxed a little. "Where are you from?" she finally asked. She was still guarded, but tilted her head to the side with curiosity.

"Michigan." I replied, a feeling deja vu running through my head. "We never went over Rome in class. But we did talk about the Revolution."

Oh right, of course. She'd almost forgotten their little conversation by the fire side.
"The Revolution, as in, the French Revolution?" Tiberia asked. Anything else than Roman history didn't really interest her, and her ADHD had probably caused her to forget a lot of what her teachers had taught her back in New Rome.

French Revolution? Where does she think we were, Quebec? Paris? French Guiana? "No? the American Revolution. You know, George Washington, Ben Franklin, the Declaration?"

"Oh, of course. I mixed it up," Tiberia said, sitting cross-legged on the floor. "I haven't learned that much about American history yet."

"I haven't either, but I get it. Kinda." They didn't teach much US history in elementary school, and geography was what they were teaching us in middle school - though I doubted I'd be heading back to school anytime soon.

"Do they teach math in New Rome?"
