"i would" i say, "but i don't think i can walk." i nndicate my fresh array of bruises on my arms, and the towel wrapped around my lower right arm, soaked in blood. i leaned over, and rummaged around for a fresh towel.

i walked into my cabin. i changed my clothes, hung the towel from the handel of a drawer, and lay down on my bed.

i sat on my bunk, working on my lanyrd.
i had followed the trail of blood into the athena cabin. i stared at marpessa. "Oh My Gods, what happened here last night???" i ask her.
"you remeber james"
i nod.
"yeah, i had a bit of a fight with him. or rather, he was hitting and kicking me, and nicolynne, chris, and alice were whipping his butt. had i not been completly bruised, i would have helped.
"but i thought the two of you were friends."
"not any more." then i told her the whole story.
"wow, thats awful." then i leave.

i walk over to my bunk and sit down. eventually i fall asleep.

i sit on my bunk with my head in my hands. at this point, it was too late to even attempt to stop thinking about everything. i almost wished i had never come to chb- almost, but not quite. back, home, i still would have been beat up, but here, i had friends who would help me whip their butts. plus, i had a family- of sorts- here, all my half- brothers and sisters, as well as almost everyone else, because all the olympians were related in some way. i was so preocupied, i didnt notice lily come sit by me.
i went over to marpessa, and put an arm around her sholders. from the looks of it, her problems were proably much than mine at the moment. "Whats wrong" i managed to ask her, attemptin to throw off my shyness.
i stare at her in astonishment. "i thought..." i started. "nevermind." then i told her about the whole fight with james. "And," i finished up, "ive been misrable ever since."
i nodded sympetheticly.
"so, what have you been up to" i ask.
"well, i was over in the forest..." i trail off, firstly because the shyness was starting to come back, and secondly beacuse i wasnt sure how she would react to someone else calling another child of athena dumb.
"what happended?" i asked.
"well, i talked with two othwer girls" i go on in a whisper. "Gemma was nice..." i trail off, buying time, and also still shy.
"and the other girl wasnt?"
"sort of. kasi told me i wasnt that smart."
"well" i say, my voice flat, "at least she didnt try to tell you youre not a daughter of athena."
i nod, the leave.

i sat down on my bed, feeling misrable, like always. i wished my life could be different. happier, like when i lived in the orphanage. then i shook myself. life in the orphanage was anything but happy.

i noticed one of my cabinmates/ siblings looking at me. i wished i could disapear. i hated people noticing me. i pefered to wallow by myself. it made things easier. i got beat up less.

Without realizing I'd said it until it was out of my mouth, I said, "I can say with sincerity, I don't remember the outside world at all. I've always lived here, grown up here. So, for the record, this must not be so bad."
