Funerals(So sad)

"Yeah," Anatkah muttered. "Go ahead and think that, big guy. Why don't you just leave me here, go run after her?" She started struggling to break free. "I can take care of myself; I always have."

Anatkah kept struggling. But she was weak and shaky. "Just let it die," she muttered. "Go on Dem. I've got nothing going for me, let me go. I-I want to be with Erin again." As she said the final sentence, her voice broke and despite her strength, she began to cry.

How would I represent everything I've lost?
My dignity? - A violet, the sacred flower of Apollo.
My courage? - A sword.
Any love anyone might've had for me? - tears.
And lastly, my smile? - a shroud.

So I replaced my sword with another and lovingly wrapped it in a golden shroud embroidered with arrows - there was a spare bit of cloth from Lee Fletcher's funeral. It was charred, but it was going to have to do. I picked a violet delicately from the porch garden of the Demeter cabin - after asking. I was already crying - all I had to do was cry onto the shroud.

I tried to get a hold on myself, but it was impossible. I'd lost my mother - she'd told me never to come back, to be a year-rounder - I'd lost any tiny shred of hope that I'd hung onto before, I'd lost any chance of making friends here - Christine and Val seemed nice, but they were probably just being like that so that I wouldn't burst into tears in front of them - I'd lost my courage since my mother had told me who I was.

I took a deep breath and grabbed a permanent marker that I'd brought with me, and I wrote the one word that I'd begged myself to be my whole life: γενναίος.

Brave.

I sighed and set the shroud alight. I stared at it as the bronze of the sword resisted the Greek fire, but gradually succumbed and got turned into a heap of molten metal. I cried more tears than I'd ever cried.

I left in tears.

I looked around, startled. "What?" I said, hurriedly wiping my eyes. "Wh-nothing, it's-no, I'm fine." I muttered, biting my lip. I knew that she could see the mound of molten bronze, with the violet half-buried inside. I cursed for not taking the shroud somewhere else until I burnt it. Now I would have to tell her.

"It's for everything I've lost." I said hoarsely. I pointed out what each thing represented, and blinked back more tears. "I realize that most people have stories that are much sadder, but I'm always hiding how I feel about things, and everyone just walks all over me. My mother's a disgraced Hunter of Artemis. I'd love to be one, but I don't think I'd be able to resist the guy thing." I tried to crack a smile. I poked the shroud, immersed in metal, with my new blade.

"I don't know why I'm so weepy today." I said.

Yeah, I guess you're right. (Sighs.) I should go. I'm going to go to my bunk, maybe catch a couple winks before lunch.

"Hopefully, when you meet me again, you won't hate me." I said balefully, trudging away with my blade tucked safely into my left boot. I briefly considered looking back, but I didn't. I sighed and pushed open the exit door, woven from reeds and set in flame patterns.

I heard Christine call after me, saying something that I could only make out vaguely: "...I hate you?" I bit my lip, but ran to my cabin, feeling my knife dig into my heel. I kept running gritting my teeth to stop from crying out - the cut was shallow, but wide.

Lolita walked in with Lamount, her face turning reddish under the effort of carrying Cassie's body. She involved the corpse in an aproppriate shroud, layed it on a pyre and watched while the flames consumed it. Glazing eyes, she began mumbling a calming dirge. It was an automatic gesture. She didn't feel sorry for Cassie or for anyone who could care about her.

Lola turned abruptly and threw her beachy arms around Lamount's neck. "Please, stop treating me as if I had any value. I'm a psychopath, an ingnorant jerk, JUST LIKE MY MOTHER." She narrowed her eyes and a few tears dipped her pale face.

"We know for two weeks and you're already bluffing about love." She said in a condescending tone, although she was still mad. She kissed his cheek and slapped his hand away from her waist. "Eeek, don't touch me anywhere below my navel."

I was devastated I placed the flowers over his funeral blanket and leave wiping a tear.

Lola shrugged. She felt quite vulnerable and the sickening smell of sulfur and rotten flesh of that place wouldn't help. She smirked and extended her arms at Lamount. "Will you carry me back to my cabin?" She whispered, widening her neon blue eyes.
