The Lonely Basement

"Fourteen. People say I look older." Jasmine pulled a loose wire on her pantyhose and accidentally teared it minimally. She stared at the rupture, looking for a focal point that wasn't Miranda's eyes.

"You do look like a fourteen year old. They're probably crazy or something." Miranda replied. Of course there was some crazy person who says a 17 year old looks like an 80 year old...

Jas shrugged. With a skinny and short body and a baby face with remarkable green eyes, Jasmine didn't seem to be older than she really was. But people always had to contest.

Miranda then kept thinking about Sirius. It's just... So sad for her. He was the only friend she had at camp at the moment. She didn't have anyone else to keep her company.

Jas noticed her sudden change of expression and raised her right hand as if she was going to touch her cheek, but hesitated in half way. Jasmine was the innocent kind of girl who spoke a little and gestured a lot. People judged her crazy, but she was pretty more rational than everybody guessed.

Mira dan turned to Jas and saw her right hand up. "Yes?" Miranda asked her. She was nice, but she had a bit of a temper like herself. Jas was kind of like her. "So..." She cut herself off.

Jasmine went back focusing her gaze on Miranda. "So... So what?" She grinned forcely, intertwining her freckled and thin hands.

"I don't know. It's just boring in here..." Miranda replied. For once, Miranda didn't know what to do at the moment. Wait... She didn't know what to do a lot of times.

Jasmine sighed. It wasn't boring to be in that disinteresting basement that smelled like mold and naphthalene and deceased mythological creatures. It was boring to be with her. "Yep. We could leave and go to the shopping... like normal people."

"We could go to the mall or something, but we're not normal people. We're demigods. Demigods never fit in with mortals. ADHD and Dyselxia and all." Miranda told her. Life as a demigod can be exciting sometimes but deadly.

Jas sighed and began to undo the braid that bounded the wires of her brown hair, although it was perfect. Her hyperactivity prevented her of keeping her hands fallen along the body. She recognized that was a stupid comment. She was a smart girl and could say smart stuff. "Right. Two years ago, I still considered myself normal."

"Yeah. It's weird how everything in your life could change like that. Demigods have ot go through that a lot." Miranda told her. "It's hard for them but they'll get used to being here after a few weeks."

"I'm getting used to living here, not about being a weirdo." She sobbed. If she went back crying, she could have problems with dehydration.

"I'm usually the one in my cabin most of the time. Unless I'm with Sirius. I miss him so much." Miranda told her.

Jasmine noticed she still didn't know Sirius. Maybe she didn't even hear Miranda talking about him before. She opened her mouth as if she was going to say anything, but she just took a deep breathe and kept stupidly speechless.

"You were about to say something?" Miranda asked Jas as she opened her mouth. "Just ask me whatever. I'm fine with whatever you ask me." She told Jas.

"Of course not." She said in an awkward hoarse tone. "What brings you to this conclusion?"

"You opened your mouth. You just denied it in an awkward tone." Miranda answered.

She blushed. "You're wrong. ... Wanna go training?" Jasmine was afraid she would be psychologically forced to tell Miranda all her depressing story. They both didn't deserve that. Jasmine didn't deserve to revive everything, and Miranda didn't deserve to listen.

"Firstly, please just tell me what happened." Miranda then thought about Sirius again. "I'm sorry. If you don't want to tell me. That's fine." She started to get tears in her eyes from thinking about Sirius.

"I'm sorry if I hurt you." Jasmine said in a low tone. Actually, she didn't care. She pefered to make Miranda cry than to tell her all the thruth.

"You actually didn't hurt me. I just needed some empathy at the moment." Miranda told her. She rolled her eyes and sat against the wall.

"My boyfriend died and now I'm even more sentimental. That' what happen and that's what I did want to tell you, because I don't even know you." She whimpered. "Moreover, I know you have a depressing story to tell, too. I'm smarter than it seems."

Miranda smiled but frowned once again. "My boyfriend accidentally killed a person and everyone kept beating him up for it. He told me he barely got out. He left camp to train. I don't know when he'll be back." Miranda stood up and left.

Jasmine widened her eyes at Miranda, perplex. She didn't even say goodbye... Jasmine was ready to tell her a bit about death. As it isn't that bad when you feel it, and it only hurts the people who keep alive. She left, disappointed.
