    Raiden entered the archery range with the intent of practicing, humming Enter Sandman by Metallica. He gazed at the distant targets at the other side of the field, walking to one that was seventy-five yards away. Aligning himself parallel to the target, he transformed his chain necklace into his scorpio crossbow and lidded quiver. A crossbow bolt was already pre-loaded into the chamber, and he raised up his weapon to eye level. Checking to the wind flag to the side, he noticed there was a slight breeze going west. Raiden accordingly moved his aim marginally to the right to compensate the estimated effect of the wind.

    He pulled the trigger, unlocking the complex, spring-loaded mechanisms in the specialty heavy ballistic crossbow and launching the crossbow bolt at an astounding speed. A dull thud soon followed. Raiden had hit the second yellow ring, a score of nine. Frowning at his inadequacy, he quickly locked the springs and loaded another heavy bolt in the chamber. The process was much slower than nocking an arrow on a bow, taking him six seconds to put in another, but he was much faster than the ancient Roman soldiers, who took ten to twelve seconds, due to his inherent quick hand-eye coordination as a son of lightning.

    Rai raised his scorpio again, using the sights to measure up to his target. This time, though, before pressing the trigger, he used his power to charge his crossbow and the bolt. Red veins of electricity erratically enveloped his weapon. When he pulled it and launched the bolt, the veins could be seen around it and leaving a small trail behind its trajectile path. It hit the target dead center, a bulls-eye, and caused a small explosive spark on impact. The wooden target soon became conflagrated.

    Chuckling with satisfaction, he changed his weapon and quiver back into his necklace and whistled off to another area of camp.

    "You mean you've never fought." I smile. "Well Kate," I say, glancing down at the heavy bow dangling precariously from her hands, "I'd say we have a lot of work to do."
    I pull up my arms, demonstrating how to hold the bow. "It'll be heavy at first," I tell her, "but you'll be amazed at the upper arm strength you get from this kind of shooting."

    Freya walked into the Archery Range. She was in the mood to shoot for a bit. She took out her bow and arrows and began to shoot. She aimed carefully and hit the target only two rings from the center.
