by Princess Amy 8/1/2012, 1:24 amI walked down the street slowly lost in my own thoughts and listening to sad music on my ipod. I pulled my hood on even though it was like a thousand degrees. I was supposed to be shopping to get ready to go to some camp. I was holding back tears at nearly every thought as I walked down the street avoiding any and all eye contact.

Lucas walked down the street with a light backpack on his back. He glanced around at all the other people on the street, none of which seemed to pay him any attention. Then, suddenly, he noticed some girl with a hood on, staring at the ground. Although she didn't seem any different than any other person on the street, this girl stuck out to him. Maybe it was preemption or something, Lucas didn't know, but it was strong enough that he put his hand on her shoulder, and in a soft, caring tone he asked, "Hey, are you okay?"

I looked up and quickly nodded my head not really wanting to break down in front of a total stranger whose tone of voice was actually caring unlike the many others who had just asked her empty words. "I'm F-fine" I said softly and tried to keep walking pulling my hood down over my eyes.

Lucas could tell she was obviously not fine, so he started walking with her and asked, "What's your name?" Then he had a thought. I must look like some creep trying to r*pe her. The realization hit him like a rock, but he tried to think past it.

"Kelsey..." I replied softly and kept walking avoiding looking at him hoping he would just go away...I didn't need anymore sympathy. I fidgeted with the sleeves of my jacket while I walked biting my lip.

Lucas nodded, feeling like he recognized the name. Vaguely. It was probably just a coincidence, though. He put his hand on her shoulder again--completely understanding if she wanted to go into self defense mode--and asked, "Are you sure you're okay?" He figured this was his last try before he'd just leave her alone. He didn't want to seem like some creep or anything.

"I'm fine." I whispered and as I looked up briefly and noticed that he went to my school...even though I hadn't been there for awhile. He probably never even knew I existed. "You...you went to my school." I said softly pushing my hood back. Lucas...his name was Lucas star of the wrestling team.

Lucas blinked. Okay. He definitely wasn't expecting that reaction. He looked at her, and even though she looked like a mess, he did recognize her. Vaguely. "Yeah... I think I did," he replied to her. "What happened to you?"

"Stuff...a lot of stuff." I said softly and turned away biting my lip. I fiddled with my sleeves again. the attack only happened just a few weeks ago...maybe nobody noticed that I stopped going to school, nobody probably cared so why should he?

Thinking back, Lucas had noticed she hadn't been at school much, but hadn't given it much thought then. After all, he hardly knew her, and they had never talked. She was one of those girls who just blended in the crowd.
He thought his next action might be stepping his bounds, but for some reason Lucas thought it needed to be done. He hugged her.

I just hugged him back, not saying anything and realizing that I really needed this. I tried not to cry in to his shirt seeing as his kindness was so unexpected it made me feel more emotional then I already was.

Lucas wished he knew her story, but for now, he thought maybe she just needed a friend. "Do you want someone to talk to?" He asked quietly, his voice dripping with concern. Even though he hardly knew this girl, empathy was taking him over.

Lucas frowned, but nodded. "Can I get you a bite to eat?" he asked her, hoping that would help her get her mind off whatever was bothering her.
