Character Powers Discussion topic Empty Character Powers Discussion topic

Post by Alpha Wolf 4/20/2014, 10:40 am

Good Evening Boys and Girls. As the title of this topic suggests, this is a topic that is made for the sole purpose of people to ask all of their questions about character powers. I realize that PM's and the cbox are also place where this is done but this topic is made as a way of

A: Eliminating the Chaos of trying to discuss powers on the cbox
And B: Increase the speed of Reply that PMing can't always guarantee.

Now this topic is also being made because many people often have the same questions about powers and limits and this is a way of killing 2 birds with one stone so to speak.

As such DO NOT SPAM THIS TOPIC

Ridiculous comments that are detracting from the point of this topic will be deleted if it's felt that we need to, you may very well get punished for doing so.

Without Further Ado I will go ahead and post a rule that should be quite obvious but I feel that it should be addressed anyway

Rule: You ARE NOT ALLOWED to use powers in RP that you NEVER STATED the character having the ability to do in the form.

Erebus is the god of shadows and nightmares, correct? Would the power to throw little razor disks of shadow at an enemy be too much too ask?

Erebus is not allowed as a god parent seeing he is a primordial, so unless you win a character child of him, it's not allowed.

But I think the little razor sharp shadow disks should be okay if somebody gets a son/daughter of him.

Another Erebus question. Assuming someone got a child of Erebus, would they be able to haunt sleeping people with nightmares?

this is just a question in the case i ever did win a contest or something, but, saying i had a big three slot and used it for a child of poseidon, would i be allowed to use all of the powers percy had in the books, permitting i put limits on them? percy has a ton of powers in the books and i've kind of been interested in poseidon because of that, but i'd like to know whether or not it's worth it

@ Catherine> It would depend on how much the nightmares would affect the people.

    @ Lila> Yes.

Yes, but he/she would have to have a source, they couldn't really just pull it out of mid-air (unless you want to be technical and say that they pull water vapor from the air, but i doubt there'd be enough to actually make a whole entire icicle.)

Actually Chris. In the Troposhpere(the part of the atmosphere directly above us) 99% of the gas in the atmoshpere is water vapor. On top of this every day water is evaporating into the air all day long due to solar rays. There is enough water vapor to pull water or even ice out of thin air. Your limits then, John, would have to be based on the current temperature of the area you are in. I.E. If you're in a tropical environment then there would be more vapor but it's also be very hot thus it'd be harder to actually make the ice form, where as in a wintery environment then there isn't as much vapor but considering that you're around temperatures cold enough for ice to be on the ground then you'd get the ice from there.

If someone was a daughter/son of Epione, the goddess of soothing pain, would they be able to take pain away from others (but inflict it onto themselves as a recoil) for a short time? Like around 1-5 minutes depending on the pain another person has.

Could a child of Atropos (the unturning fate (the one who cut the thread)) be able to see a persons fate as long as they couldn't speak to therefore tell the person and given a set limitations (like once a week weakening the person to the point they pass out)

There are a large range of powers including curses. For example, the Aphrodite's once cast a spell on Travis and Connor Stoll, making one look like a clown for a month and having the clothes of the other be two sizes shorter. There is no predefined list for powers, so we can be creative ;)
