making a sword

"Just a stream, or...? I mean, there are furnaces and stuff all around us that could probably help you better than I could." Speaking of which, Aidan finally realized she was sort of sweating a bit -- not profusely, but the heat was beginning to get to her. Good thing she was a child of a fire god, or else she would probably have passed out from heat stroke or something.

"Well they aren't as hot as the fire we make. Did that sound wrong?"

"... Yes. Yes, it did. And I think these fires are a bit hotter, but eh. We can try. Stream or just... heating my hand?" Oh boy, this sure was awkward now. Aidan shuffled around awkwardly, staring intently at the sword that allegedly needed more heating. "I mean, if Hephaestus kids without fire powers can use these furnaces and stuff just fine, I'm sure you could too?"

"Please just help a brother out?" He was kinda annoyed but that what little sisters do.

"Yeah, but you didn't answer my question: Stream or heated hand?" Boy, this was a bit tiring. No wonder why Aidan had never tried to seek out her godly half-siblings -- having two was annoying enough. She liked Tempest, really, but Stella was questionable at best; now Aidan would have to deal with more people who would presumably bother her the way they did.

Getting toys thrown at her head, being the butt of weird jokes.... Ugh.

"Hand, so Aidan after this wanna help me test my new sword out?" He starts his fire. He puts his flaming hand on blade.

"I'm not really much of a fighter, so...." Aidan trailed off to concentrate on her hand; after almost five seconds of intense concentration (with a look that Stella had once called "the constipated Mona Lisa"), her hand erupted into intense orange flames that danced and swayed like a leaf in the wind. Grasping her wrist with her free hand, she slowly lowered it to the blade alongside Rhyolo's. "Just tell me where and what to do."

"Just move your hand slowly behind mine." He started to move his hand up the blade.

And so, Aidan followed Rhyolo's hand with her own up the blade, trying hard not to let her flames get too out of control. They danced and swayed as she moved her fiery hand, trying to find some larger and better source of heat to meld with and, subsequently, go rampant and out of her skill level to control. That was the issue with Aidan's fire powers: she had trouble keeping everything from blowing up in her face. Stella had always poked fun at her from atop one of her stupid cloud formations -- she had always been talented at using her powers. Bah.

Her fingers twitched; the flame grew brighter.

Rhy reached the end of the blade. He removed his hand and waited for aidan.

Aidan, reaching the end of the blade, heaved a sigh of relief as a drop of sweat rolled down the side of her face -- sweat from overexertion or the heat, she didn't know. Lifting her hand and concentrating, she extinguished the flame, which had grown to nearly twice its original size during the few minutes she'd been using her power.

Gods darn it. "Well, this is nice."

"Hanging out with me or the sword?" He laughs. He pound at the metal and gets the perfect shape.

"Eh. Either one works, I guess." Man, why did it feel like her hand was still burning? Normally all the fire she ignited from her hands would have felt like lukewarm water -- but today, it felt... especially hot. Like, putting her hand near a heated oven or a big campfire. Aidan supposed that was the price she had to pay for not practicing her powers enough, though.

He smirked. "Sis wanna do something else after I do the finishing touches?" he starts finishing the sword?

"Well...." Aidan was massaging her hand, staring blankly down at one of the tables close by; the heat was ebbing away, but it still made her slightly uncomfortable. Maybe she should have started practicing her powers again. "What do you think we should do?"

"Maybe help you with your powers?" he notice her hand. She was massaging it. It had happened to him first when he used his power.

"Eh. It'll go away in a few more minutes; I just haven't used my powers too much lately, so it backfired a bit this time." Aidan finally looked back up at Rhy, then at his sword. It looked nearly done, so that was good: they wouldn't have to spend so much time in this stuffy little room.

"that's why we need to practice together." He finishes his sword and makes it a watch.

Aidan paused to squint at Rhyolo suspiciously. "Together? Is that... necessary? Or safe?"

Last time she'd practiced her powers with somebody -- wait a second. Had she ever practiced with somebody? Maybe Stella, since she had brought her to camp, but that was only for a month or two before her sister had let her go off to practice on her own. Since then, Aidan couldn't recall a single time she'd practiced her powers with a partner.

"Not necessary but it is safe. Trust your big bro."

Aidan frowned at him -- why did he keep calling himself that? It didn't really mean anything anymore, especially since he was probably less experienced by camp standards than she was. "Uhm, you might be older than me, but I've been at camp longer than you. And I've only known you for, what, half an hour? Even if you're my half-brother it's gonna be pretty hard to trust you -- I can barely trust my half-sister from my mother's side."

"I'm an only child and i don't wanna drive off my only sibling. Aidan please just trust me."

This was already becoming annoying. Now Aidan remembered why she liked to avoid other campers when she could help it. Sternly, she folded her arms across her chest and drew herself up to her full height (which wasn't very tall, anyway), clearing her throat:

"Well, for one thing: we're definitely not the only two Pyriphplegethon kids in camp. And two: you're going to need to learn to be careful around other campers, because there are the bullies and then there are the downright psychos. One of my own sisters is the latter. Forgive me for not immediately trusting you, but it's for my own safety -- and, if you follow my example, yours."

He stood up. "Aidan, your the only sibling i know, so far anyway, I know people can be mean here. If you don't want to I understand. So far I've only bumped into pretty nice people but I see your point. I just wanted to help. So Aidan what do you want to do?

Aidan thought a moment, giving him a half-shrug after a few seconds of... mindless mental wandering. Hm. This was a bit harder to think about than she'd originally thought. "Well, if you're done your sword, we can... hang out at the observatory or something. Pretty safe in there from what I've seen."
