Valerie paid the five Drachmas, giving three extra as a tip, one for each of the girls in the front. They were sisters if her memory proved to be correct. "Thank you." She informed them before exiting the vehicle and checking the string on her bow.
Even though they were near Camp Half-blood, they still weren't safe until they passed through the protective barrier. Having her bow out and in her hands, provided a small measure of comfort and reassurance, even though she lacked the ammunition to use it. Best hope that there would not be any trouble, right?

Thankfully Leo got the gutts to move and to follow Valerie outside the cab. Once he leaped off he took a big sniff of the winter air. He could see the Half-Blood hill from here, topped with a dash of snow. He wondered how's Calypso doin'. Leo already lectured her about the harmless snow, hopefully she'll get used to it. He saw Valerie cheking on her badass bow, Leo thought of inventing one as a project once he reached Bunker 9. A self notching automated firing bow for his friend, how beautiful. Leo didn't need to check on any of his weapons, he's got nothing but his fiery hands of fury, does that make any sense? "Our journey never ends here. You know that," he said. "I know... We aren't safe till we've made it past the barrier." Her voiced sounded weary, tired and worn out. Sometimes Valerie found herself feeling just so tired, nothing much had changed since before she left and when she returned to the camp. The same monsters and creatures of darkness still tormented humanity as well as the Demigods. Occasionally Valerie would find herself gripped so strongly by these feelings that she held no real desire to abandon the safety of the camp, nor train or muster any strength to fight.
What would be the point in fighting a battle where the war in the end was lost?
The monsters could be banished, beaten, slain but never destroyed. They would return, always come back, just as strong as before.
"Come on." The shorter girl ordered, trudging through the deep snow up the hill, exhaustion showing in her every step. She hated how she became afflicted by these thoughts of defeatism.
They sapped her moral but also those of any of the Demigods she dared voice them to, better to remain silent.
