Lamps and stuff (private)

"Oh, no, nobody got hurt. I just got annoyed and underfed."

She nodded. Underfed was a thing she could relate to: she consumed insane amounts of food so that a normal meal felt like a snack to her.

Jerking her chin at the work bench, she leaned away from the table with a push of her hips. "You ready?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." Ryan walked over to the side of the table Sawyer was standing, figuring that it would be easier for her to show him what to do if he was over here.

"Then let's begin."

She swept one hand over the equipment spread out on the table before tossing him an ingot of celestial bronze. "This is your blade. Grab those tongs over there and follow me," she said, moving over to the double oven she had preheated and putting her ingot in thanks to the metal tongs.

Ryan caught the ingot, stepping back a bit from it's weight. Following Sawyer's lead, Ryan grabbed the tongs and put his ingot in, echoing Sawyer's actions. "So, what's next?"

"Wait for it to be red. Then..." She slid the ingot back out, which was now glowing crimson. "You go to the power hammer."

OOC: Just so you know I'm taking everything from the Man At Arms videos XD

OOC: I don't blame you. Forging swords isn't exactly a hot topic to learn these days.

BIC: "Power hammer, eh?" Ryan looked back at his ingot and, noticing the red hot color and glow, removed it from the furnace. "Is this a good time for me to let you know what I'm aiming to make or will the time for that come later?"

"You're making a xiphos... right?" She asked, putting her foot on the step which activated the machine, the hammer drumming the soft ingot into shape.

"Nah, that's fine."

After having achieved the general shape with the power hammer, she gave him a piece of chalk and showed him how to sketch out the actual shape on the blade, then led him to one of the belt grinder to grind out the profile of the weapon. Next came the hilt and pommel, which they shaped out over a size three anvil. Sawyer was starting to sweat a little, her bandanna already damp, but she was accustomed to that feeling.

Ryan followed Sawyer's lead, doing his best to mimic her actions. Despite getting most of the moves down, Ryan couldn't help but think he screwed up at some point. But the parts kept looking the park, and Ryan dismissed these doubts, continuing to forge while sweating like a dog in Death Valley.

As celestial bronze was a bit trickier to forge than normal metals, it took them about half an hour to finish the forging. After that, she took a piece of strong wood for the pommel, shaped it with Ryan, then wrapped it in leather. Then they took the sword out of the oven, dipped it in special oil which made flames rise almost to the ceiling and took it back out. The blade was ablaze but Sawyer didn't panic and just put it down on the workbench, cooled it down with a spray, then grabbed a flamethrower and polished it with it, sometimes hitting the metal a few times with a small hammer.

"Doing good," she told Ryan after glancing a few times at his work.

"Thanks." Ok, so she complimented him. He must not doing that bad, right? Right? "So, is it ready to be used yet?"

She grinned. "What, you gonna fight with a dull blade? We still have to sharpen it."

Ryan nodded and just (dull, dry) laughed it off. The blade was dull and had to be sharpened; that's just common sense. Why?! Why did you forget that you f#%£ing moron?! "Of course I need to sharpen it. There's a reason I'm following your lead here."

Sharpening took another good five minutes after which she applied a protective gel to the blade to make dents and scratches less likely. Turning to Ryan, she flipped her sword in her hand then pointed it at his neck. "What d'you say, son of Ares?"

OOC: How is the sword pointed? Is the tip on/in front of Ryan's neck or is the sword by the side of his neck?

OOC: A few inches in front of his Adam's apple.

OOC: Well isn't that lovely.

He had to take a step back to avoid the saber of Sawyer. What was she thinking? Was this just how she acted or... Oh, right, Ares. Duh. Jumping to conclusions, Ryan assumed that Sawyer either wanted to fight him or was just trying to initiate some kind of mythical "warrior instinct" in him. Thanks dad...

"Well, lady of the forge;" whilst putting on a faux-posh voice and body language, Ryan used his new kopis to lightly push the sword to his left; "while I do present you with the most humble of thanks, I don't believe that your domain is the kind of place to test out wares like these."

Sawyer had meant nothing by doing this, though she wasn't one to turn down a bit of sparring. Fighting with demigods was a nice change from her karate classes back home; even if her fellow black belts were quite harsh on the mats, they weren't as challenging as children of Ares, Nike or Athena. She smirked, cocking one of her bushy eyebrows. "What, you wanna go outside?"

"That, Sawyer, is your call." In all honesty, Ryan wasn't itching for a spar. But if señorita wanted to exchange blows in the arena, Ryan was obliged to humor her.

Wow, a child of Ares who didn't race head first into a brawl? That was quite a surprise.

"Later, to test that new weapon of yours." She crossed her huge scarred arms. "Now. Do you want to add some special features to it?"

So they would battle later. Fine with him.

"Sure, why not?" It'd be a crying shame to ding up a sword after putting in some fine details, but the added character would be worth it.

"Right, what do you want? Do you want it to turn into a specific object? Do you want it to do anything special like, I don't know, burst into flames, give electroshocks, shoot water?" she asked, rubbing her fist.

"Wait, you can just make things do that?" Seconds later, Ryan's own right hand smacked against his face, a personal punishment for speaking before thinking. Of course she can you f#cking idiot! Didn't you see the lamp?!?!

Palm off of face, Ryan began digging through his pockets, only able to come up with some gum wrappers and a set of keys. Having a way of discretely storing the weapon would be nice, and a key was a good size, so Ryan decided Why the hell not? and took his house key off of the set, handing it to Sawyer.

"Is this enough for you to work with?"
