Working Hard/Hardly Working Empty Working Hard/Hardly Working

    Post by redline2400 4/16/2016, 1:47 am

Turns out that, despite there being an abundance of campers, nearly none of them worked at the camp store. When Ryan (son of Ares) and George (son of Athena) walked in, the camp's commerce center was operating on a skeleton crew, with only two other campers in the store - both workers. "Hey, George;" said Ryan optimistically; "If this is all they've got for a staff, we'll just be handed the jobs here!"

George was partly grateful partly dreadful. Somehow he had a positive enough impression on Ryan that the son of Ares not only didn't avoid him but he tried to help him with his incopetence at socializing. It was his idea to seek a job at the Camp store -and a really useful one regardless; George needed some extra drachmas. So, he did his best impression of a genuine grin and said "That's g-great, man" Pretty sure that's what males are supposed to call each other.

Still unohased but his Athena friend's dorky awkwardness, Ryan responded "Yeah...hopefully they pay decently." He looked around for someone who struck him as a manager or something, but failed to find anyone who fit his image of one. "Hey George?" asked Ryan, a bit of concern hinted in his voice, "You wouldn't happen to know if a particular cabin runs the store, would you?"

Well, that was an... odd question. Like, George didn't like some cabins either, but that didn't mean anything in this case, right? "Um... no, why?" he asked, having picked up on Ryan's concern.

    "But who; ask who?"

The two other people, the workers, were staring at the customers, wondering if or if not they were going to waste their time here any longer. Olympus forbid they actually buy something...

"Um... the people who work here?" Didn't that supposedly make sense? Why wouldn't they? Why would Ryan have reservations? "Or, maybe Chiron? He's the one who basically runs the place." Two logical suggestions. Then again, use logic in a place where half the people have superpowers isn't that reccomended.

"Can I help you?" called out one of the workers, a significant amount of snark in his voice.

What did he know? Ryan was shy all of a sudden? That was weird and made George even more defensive than usual. To the point where the worker talked to them he froze in place and said nothing.

What worried Ryan was that if a particular cabin ran the shop, then he'd be flat out denied a position due to the actions of his own cabin. It seemed obvious enough to Ryan.

"Are you two just going to stand there or is there a sale to make?"

O-kay, George didn't really expect the son of Ares to act like that. Then again, he probably had a reason for it. But George at that point couldn't think clearly enough, feeling too anxious for no apparent reason. "N-no. I-l mean, w-we were w-wondering i-if you, um... h-hired?" Let's get it out of the way. Though George was sure Ryan would be better at the talking thing. Maybe he shouldn't have even said it. Oh Mum, he probably screwed up, didn't he?

The worker looked puzzled. Why would these two want to work here? It was dead nearly 24/7 and basically stole your soul, and that's just part time!

"So you want a job? Why?"

At this point George felt really weird and awkward. To the point where he didn't trust himself to talk anymore. He weakly nudged Ryan (hope that's the verb) on the side, signalling him to start talking.

"Because money is tight and we want to earn some?" Ryan wasn't sure this would work. He was just waiting for the staff to kick him out.

OOC: Yeah, and a 5th cohort one. I prefer that one, l am not good at rping the othrr. Then again l haven't rp'd a lot in general for quite some time so l suppose it doesn't matter.

BIC: "U-um, sure. George Wilson, cabin 6." Yeah, they weren't getting the jobs, were they? Weird, and he thought that not going by himself would improve the impression he'd make on his own given his social skills.

"Ryan Michaels, cabin 5." F***. Ryan knew that mentioning his cabin would cost him the job. Oh well, can't win them all, right?

"Right... Well, thanks. We'll definitely take some time to consider you two."

OOC: Well well well, I also have a 5th cohort OC too. Two new RPs sound good to you?

OOC: Sure, pm me any ideas.

BIC: George and Ryan left the store in silence, both visibly disappointed by the fact they 99% wouldn't get hired. After a whole minute, George decides to break the silence: "So, um, l don't think we n-need to be like the smart Athena kids t-to realise that... th-this could have gone b-better."

    OOC: K bro.

BIC: Head hung low, hands in pocket, the son of Ares walked out of the store alongside his friend. So far, he had held two jobs in his life, both of them on-the-spot hires. But this was different. This time, Ryan felt as if his lineage, his family was the reason he would be denied work.

And to Ryan, that f***ing blew.

"Oh yeah; could've gone much better."

"Y-yeah. S-sorry f-for m-messing up there, l expected y-you to do the talking th-thing." George said apologetically. Besides, Ryan had never mentioned having problems with being social so he expected him to have taken matters to his own hands.

Ryan looked over at George, realizing that he might be making the son of Athena a bit more upset than he needed to be. "Nah, I didn't really need the job. All I need to do to pay for things really is just fight someone. They probably see me as not the strongest fighter, so it's an easy way to be able to say 'I beat an Ares kid' without lying."
