The Lake

I walk in and look around for something to do.

Ryland walks down to the lake to see another camper already there, "What's up?" she asks

I look up with a start "Oh, hey. I'm just looking for something to do." I look at the water and take a deep breath.

"Wanna talk?" Ryland asks, then she sitts down at the water's edge

I walk over to some campers talking. "Hey, I'm Blair, kinda new, kinda bored." i shrug. I play with my belly button ring. I smile slightly.

"Um, sure." I say quizzically, folding my legs underneath me and looking at this strange camper. I look up at the new person. "Hey."

I sit down. I brush the water with my finger tips. "Whos your parent" i ask cocking my head.

I sigh and look anywhere but at the two other campers, skirting the question.

I sigh. "alright, really shut up your so talkitive" i say sarcastically. I crack a grin.

"Yeah. I guess watching your best friend's death means you're going to be sooo talkative afterwards." I snap back, going on the defensive.

"Calm down, ok i didn't know-" i falter. I sigh. "I got here last night...chased by ac yclops I've had a rough night too" i say frowning.

I scowl but brush it away, not wanting the air to get all frosty.

I swirl he water with my hand. I bite my lip. I steal a glance an dlook away. I trace the outline of my small heart tattoo. It's hard fo rme to just sit still, i feel the urge to move but i remain silent and unmoving.

"Look, kid I'm sorry. But I hate it when you newbies come and act all cocky and all "Oh my gods, I'm a demigod." But most of you guys don't know that very few of us live to see the day when we leave this camp." I sigh and throw a rock into the water, watching it skip over the surface and sink beneath the surface.

"I'm not cocky honestly i just want to go home." I sigh. "what am i supposed to do, i didn't ask for this! I don't want to die!" i say outrageously

"Listen, you probably won't die if you don't take unneeded risks. My friend went a little too far with the wrong girl." I sighed and ran my fingers over the surface of the water, snatching them back when a thin layer of frost was created wherever I touched it.

"Listen though i want to become something now that I'm here....whats it like? Have you been on a quest?" i narrow my eyes thinking hard.

I shake my head no "I've never been on a quest. But I've been on quite a few trips in which monsters have been quite aggressive."

I tap my chin. "Despite not wnting to die, i want a quest. And friends" i say nodding my head.

"Everyone here wants a quest when they first come, but why? Why do you want to go out and risk your neck for something you don't believe in? My friend learned that the hard way, with a arrow in her chest." I sigh and stand up, shaking ice crystals from my fingertips.

I watch the ice crystals fall from her fingers. "Who is you parent? Mines Triton..."

I swallow bitterly "Chione." I spat and I turned on my heel, staring out over the lake.

I jump up. "Wait you didn't even tell me your name!"

I turn my head for a moment and sigh. "See you around." I bite my lip and stride away before she could see the tears freezing on my cheeks.

I sit back down. I bite my lip. "Alright" i call back wondering if I'll really see her around and whether she'll ignore me or not.
