A Daughter of Demter That is One Tough Cookie.

Name:
This camper’s name is Laurel Hailey De Luca. The name Laurel is of Latin origin. Her father gave her the name because of the Bay Laurel plant. Steven De Luca chose that name because he and Demeter stood by the Bay Laurel plant when they first met.
Place of Birth:
Laurel was conceived at South Miami hospital. The family gathered into room 46 on the third level to see the young demigod.
Date of Birth:
The daughter of Demeter was born on June 25, 1997 at two fifteen in the afternoon.  This being, Laurel will turn 16 in six days.



Gender:
Laurel is obviously a female. She is hurt you had to ask.
Skin Tone:
Laurel has an olive skin tone. This means that her skin is slightly beige with yellow undertones. Laurel does not mind her olive skin tone because it hides blemishes well.
Eye Color:
Demeter’s  daughter has warm brown eyes. They turn into a hazel color during the spring and into early fall. Her father, aunt,  grandfather, and great uncle have the same eyes as she does.
Hair:
Laurel has short brown hair. It comes a little past her shoulders. It’s about 11 inches long. In some parts of her hair, you can see blonde and lighter brown highlights. They are natural highlights, but she did put some reddish highlights.
Height:
Laurel is only a little bit taller than most girls in her age group.  She is five foot six, while most girls are 5 foot four. On her dad’s side, the people are not really that tall so She will most likely not be growing any further.
Weight:
Laurel is the minimum weight that an average girl her age would be. Weighing in at 115 pounds, in the eyes of her family, she is ‘A little stick.’ The majority of her family is a little heavier than average, and she is seen as the ‘black sheep because of it.
Body Type:
Laurel is on the skinner side.  She has a little muscle because of motocross, but other than that, she is the ‘little stick’ in the words of her aunt.
Appearance:

The daughter of Demeter normally likes to wear her various motocross jackets with a pair of leggings

. During the spring/summer seasons, Laurel likes to wear rompers or a v-neck and some athletic shorts. You will rarely see her in a dress. Laurel’s face is in an oval shape and her nose is long and skinny. Her eyes are a bit round and scare others.


Mortal Parent:
Laurel’s father is Steven De Luca. He is fifty years old. He met Demeter while he was tending a plot of flowers for someone’s wedding. Steven is very kind to his daughter and basically let’s her do anything she wants to do. Other parents in Miami would call him a pushover, but he didn’t mind. As long as his only child was happy, he was happy.
God Parent:
Laurel’s mother is Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. Laurel has never had an encounter with her mother during the solstices. Laurel always figured that her mother was busy, preparing for winter and summer and all of that in between.

Hometown/Last Residence:
Laurel was last seen living in Isola Bella, a small island in Italy, with her grandparents. She does not live there, she lives in Miami, Florida. Laurel was visiting her family in Italy before returning to Camp.

Race/ethnicity:
Laurel is from Italian decent.
Accent:
Laurel has a costal southern accent. This means she pronounces the vowel ‘I’ as an ‘ah’ sound. She also has a slight Italian accent, causing her to stress the second-to-last syllable of a word.

Pet(s):
Laurel has no pets. Her father was allergic to fur, and Laurel didn’t enjoy birds.

Skills/Talents:
Motocross- Laurel competes in a junior form of motocross every season. Ranking at mostly first and second place, the daughter of Demeter would say that she is pretty good at the sport. Laurel has a place in her bunk to store all of her ribbons and trophies that she earned.
Math- Demeter’s daughter is a math whiz. At school, Laurel was the team captain of Math Counts, a math competition throughout the district. Even though it is a skill Laurel puts to good use, she does not like to bring it up.
Soccer- Laurel was the goalie for the A Team. They won championships in Miami and sometimes the whole state of Florida. Laurel only played for three years, so she would say she is decent.

Flaws:
Competitive- Laurel loves a good competition. But she tends to take it too far. Her competitiveness has caused her to loose many friendships in the past and has distracted her from other things.
Sensitive- Like any other stereotypical Demeter child, any little thing said to her could possibly set her off.  If someone teases her jokingly, she will explode.  If they say something that wasn’t even rude, she’d explode. Even if someone looks at her the wrong way she would go off.
Laurel has a prosthetic leg. It is her left leg. When she was five, Laurel had a blood clot just below the knee. In an attempt to keep the blood clot from getting larger, the doctors cut off her leg. To this day, Laurel wears the prosthetic leg, the leg looks very similar to her right leg.
Stubborn-Laurel does not like when things do not go her way. It is either her way or no way in Laurel’s book. Many people think she is that way because her dad let her do anything she wanted.
Laurel gets annoyedeasily. If you make one false move that could potentially annoy her to death, she will slap you.

Strengths:
Leader- Laurel takes the leader ship role everywhere she goes.  She is kind to most people and she normally knows what she is doing.
School Smarts- Laurel will be able to help anyone in any subject. If you ask her any question related to school, she would most likely know the answer.

Weaknesses:
Competition- Laurel will put anything on the line to have a good competition. It’s like a gambling addiction, but with competition.
Flattery- If anyone compliments Laurel, she is like putty in her hands. She will willingly do anything for them if they complement her the right way.

Laurel has a fear of rejection, she will not ask for plans for she is scared if they would say no.

Personality:
On the exterior, Laurel seems like a tough cookie. She looks like she can scare someone with a blink of an eye and that they shouldn’t mess with her. But really, Laurel is one of the sweetest people you would ever meet. She is kind to almost everyone she meets. Even though she tends to hang out with ‘the guys’, Laurel likes to spend time with girls too. Laurel likes to live an edgy life style, and she tends to get into trouble at Camp.



Weapon:
Laurel uses six celestial bronze throwing stars. She keeps four of them in her pockets and the other two in a desk drawer in her cabin. Laurel does not tend to use her weapons that often, only when she feels threatened or if they are in CTF.
Armor:
Laurel has Camp Half Blood armor they use for Capture the Flag. The armor is light, so she can move swiftly. It has a layer of celestial bronze covering it. On the chest plate, there are a bunch of flowers and wheat, symbolizing her mother.

Powers:
Laurel can grow shrubs and flowers. Sometimes wall flowers. These plants last as long as they normally would. After conjuring them, Laurel will feel quite weak, she becomes tired and eventually will go to sleep. She can do this once every three hours up to five times a day.


Social Status:
Laurel is that one girl in a group of guys. She definitely is the tom boy type of girl, and she’s not that ashamed of that. Laurel wasn’t really threatened by the pretty girls or anything. She never really did anything wrong to them.

Summer or Year Rounder:
Laurel is a year rounder, she is too lazy to travel to Miami and back.

Years at Camp:
Laurel has been at Camp for two years, thus she has been here since she was thirteen.

Life Before CHB:
Laurel was born in Miami on a very rainy day. Her father was left alone with a daughter and didn’t really know what to do. So, when she was two weeks old, Laurel and her father went over to Verona, Italy to live with Laurel’s aunt and seven children. All of the children were boys. As she grew older, her cousins taught her things like sports and other manly things. After five years living in Verona, the De Luca’s moved back into Steven’s town house in Miami.
At age seven, Steven entered Laurel into a junior motocross competition. She earned third place and she really enjoyed doing it. So after that race, Laurel trained with her father and some other people until next season. When next season arrived, Laurel was ahead of her game, gaining first place titles in most of her divisions. At age eight, Laurel finally went to school. Steven didn’t like the schools in Miami, so he sent her to the school most of her cousins go to in Italy. It seemed drastic, but Steven wanted Laurel safe from monsters and what not.
As she was turning eleven, Laurel went back to Miami and started middle school there against her father’s wishes. She still competed in motocross and soccer. But then she began testing her strengths in academics. She went in math competitions and finally fell in love with Math Counts and soon became leader of it. It was near the end of seventh grade when her father shipped her off to Camp Half Blood. Her father told her it was for a motocross competition. But he lied, of course.
Role-playing Example:
Pfft. Who uses the race tracks for horses anymore? Clearly everyone, but that didn’t stop Laurel from taking her KX 250F motocross bike down to the tracks. Today was one of the prettiest days Laurel has seen at camp for a long time. Maybe Chiron and Mr. D. were feeling happy today. As laurel walked onto the dirt path of the track, she put on her pink helmet and hopped on the bike. She started racing around the track, picking up speed every lap she took. She liked speed, it made her feel…better. After a few minutes, Laurel stopped. A shriek came from behind her. The daughter of Demeter turned around, it was one of her half-sisters.  “What?” She grumbled. Her half-sister pointed to the right, Laurel followed her gaze. It was Chiron. Oh great, just what she needs. Chiron’s voice boomed in her ears as he said, “Ms. De Luca, you know you are not allowed to be doing this.” Laurel shrugged, not knowing what to say. Chiron huffed and started to walk towards his office. Knowing better, Laurel followed cautiously. She turned around, checking if her half-sister was still there, and she was. The girl was smiling, and it seemed that she wanted Laurel to get in trouble. Well, fine. Let’s see who finds it funny when there are spiders all in her bed.
