The dangers of a mission

"Nick, tell your dog to chill or I'm never going to get the bleeding to stop."

"What's with the kids? You guys know them?" James asks.

Nick, with the help of Jason, walked over to his dog, happy to see him. Brownie barked, happily. Nick hugged him, not hurting him. "I love you. Anita won't hurt you. Trust me, Brownie."

Brownie slightly nodded, relaxing a bit.

Jason looked at James. "I may know one."

"Thanks Nick." Now that the dog was calm, i might be able to keep it alive.

"Who?" James wondered.

Jason patted Nick on the back and set him down. "Take a nap, we'll be back in camp, soon."

He turned to Anita. "I guess we never did really find out about the girl-monsters. We all know some psycho idiot let them in camp, I just wonder what they are. Probably Furies, judging from today."

Jason then remembered Anita had a crush on him, so he decided to trick her into seeing if she would expose it. "Hey, Anita, are you free Friday night?"

"No." She turns and puts the shirt in the bag, pulling out some bandages. Once she was done, she looks at Nick. "Brownie should be fine. But someone's got to carry him until we get to camp though."

Nick nodded. "He can take a nap on my chest on the way home."

Phil came over. "We just did some tests, and apparently, the Furies were not the ones at your camp, they are rare enough. The ones at your camp were dracanaes."

"Thank you, Mr. Hoover," Jason said.

"Ah, yes, and have a happy and safe week. Watch after my son and his dog, please. And, good luck on being a couple and...goodbye." Phil left, but some of his men stayed, to lead them back to camp.

Jason was confused. "Anita, by any chance, did you tell him we were a couple? I don't like you that way," he burned, realizing how rude that was a second later, "I'm sorry-"

She holds up a hand. "He suggested that we would make a great couple when i first met him. That's all"

"Oh?" Jason was silent. All he did was get in the car.

Nick saw as Jason brought Brownie over, and laid him on his chest. Together, the boy and his dog fell asleep.

Anita and James got in the car and they drove away.

Jason drove. On the way to camp, he wondered, "does Jerry know something we don't? Y'know, Mr. Hoover's best friend?"

Anita shrugs. "No idea."

"Maybe."

Jason almost ran over two small kids. "OH MY GOSH!" He quickly stopped the car.

Damien and Layla looked at the car. "What the heck, old dude? Trying to run us over?"

Anita groans. "More kids?" She gets out of the car. "You kids lost?"

James sat perfectly quiet.

"No, no, we randomly lost our way from camp," Layla rolled her eyes.

"You're like the diva version of Ani," Jason joked.

"Name and destination."

"Anita. Be nice."

She turns to him. "Don't tell me what to do Jem." He went silent. She turns to the kids. "Well?"

"Damien, Layla, and a place called Camp Hallf-Blood," Layla said.

She nods. "Get in, Damien, Layla. We were just on our way." She opens the back door. "I'm Anita. The driver here is Jason and the guys in the back are Nick and James. The dog is Brownie." She frowns, realizing that there won't be enough room. "One of you will have to sit in the front with me."

Jem sighs and scoots over, putting the dog on his lap.

Damien and Layla got in. Damien sat in the front. "Isn't this illegal?"

"No, because we're demigods." Jason drove straight towards camp. After being around a block away, he said, "now we need to walk, so no one can track us. Someone, help Nick walk. Jem?"

Nick held onto Brownie, on Jem's lap.

Damien and Layla got out. "We just got to camp yesterday, and we already lost our way."

"Here's a hint," Nick said, "don't leave camp until you've been there for around a month and know your way back. Who are you guys' god parent, anyway?"

"We don't know. We just know it's a goddess, though," Damien said, Layla adding the last part.

"I'll help Nick. Jem can you get the dog?" He nods. "Great." She looks the kids. "Don't you guys have a dad? You can't have lived without at least one parent." She helped Nick stand as he got out of the car.

James slides out, holding the dog.

"We have our father who is an author and lives in Tampa, but that's all the family we have," Damien said. Layla nodded in agreement.

Nick held onto Anita.

"At least yours is alive." she mutters. "Come on. We need to move. Ready Nick?" She looks at Jason still in the car. "Yo, dude. You coming or not?"

"No, I'll catch up. I need to go see my dad."

"See you later, Jason. And yes, Anita, just promise me you'll keep focus on me, alright?"

She snorts. "Relax. I'm not going to drop you or anything." She turns back to Jason. "You sure?"

"Anita, we need to go."

She sighs. "Fine. Whatever." And we walk back to camp.

"I hope you know Jason thinks you like him," Nick told Anita.

"Ooh, the old bat has a crush," Damien said.

"Yeah, so." She says tugging him along.

"I'm starting to think that you do like him." Jem says.

"Shut up."
