Zane's First Dance! ((OPEN))

Zane nervously shuffled into the Mess hall, darting his eyes around quickly, taking in the drastic change. The beautiful lights, the mesmerizing music, everything. He absently tugged at his collar and tie, still not wearing something this fancy. Zane wore a simple black tuxedo, with a white, collared undershirt, and a black tie. He would've much rather preferred to wear his jeans and hoodie, but this was prom, and it's kinda customary to wear something formal. At least he got to wear his black sneakers.

Mary quietly walked into the extravagantly decorated Mess Hall, and immediately regretted it. Everyone else had a date, a partner, or someone to be here with at least. Not Mary. She was all alone, and she felt like everyone was staring at her because of it. She told herself to ignore the paranoia, that she was all imagining it. She wiped her sweaty palms on her dress, which was a shame because a Daughter of Aphrodite had put a lot of time into it. It was deep blue, knee length, and strapless with a bedazzled hem. Her chestnut hair was pulled up into a ballerina bun, with a  silver snowflake adorning it.

To keep busy, Mary decided to get some punch. She carefully spooned the red liquid into her glass, then as she turned around, she ran into someone. Mary dropped her punch, thankfully not getting it on either of their costumes. "Oh um s-sorry." She apologized, not even looking up as she knelt down to pick up her now empty cup.

Zane's head darted up, surprised that he heard his name called. "U-uhm, H-hi. N-no thanks, I-i'm not really thirsty.." He replied to Jana while continuing to tug at his collar. He felt happy that someone bothered to talk to him. Zane felt so out of place at the dance. "Oh! S-sorry!" He stammered out as his shoulder bumped into a girl, wearing an extremely beautiful dress, and heard a splash as her drink fell to the ground. "M-Mary?!" he blurted out in surprise., completely taken aback. His face instantly flushed, realizing just how amazing Mary looked. He looked down at her spilled cup, not wanting to get caught staring.

"Oh my gods Zane!" Mary exclaimed, looking up. Sure enough, it was Zane Matthews, the boy from the forest and the library. Her surprised response had left time for another girl to stop and help clean up the mess she had made, Jana Kay, daughter of Demeter. "Um thanks Jana." Mary mumbled, grabbing some more napkins to help her wipe up the red liquid.

Zane looked up in time to give Jana a goodbye smile before returning his attention to Mary. "I-I didn't expect to s-see you here Mary.." he stammered out nervously. He instantly wished he could hide his face somehow. It was his way of coping with his emotions, like the extreme shyness and nervousness he was feeling now. Zane started idly tugging on random parts of his outfit, trying to overcome at least a fraction of his shyness.

"I-it's good to see a familiar face here.." Zane said with a small, but friendly smile. "Y-you l-look... A-amazing..." he added, looking down with a deep shade of embarrassment on his face.

Mary watched as Jana slipped away. She couldn't blame her, the awkwardness between the two was obvious.
"T-thanks. You look n-nice y-yourself." Mary said, with a shy smile. She pushed a loose lock of hair behind her ear. The imperfectness of her hair kind of embarrassed her, but she didn't really care much, as she noticed Zane was wearing his normal black sneakers.

Zane glanced up as she pushed some of her hair behind her ear. He immediately blushed deeper, finding it extremely cute, making him quickly look back down at the floor. "T-thanks.." he stuttered out, his voice barely audible from embarrassment. No one has ever told him he looked nice before.

"Uh Y-your w-welcome." Mary stuttered. She hoped she had heard him right, because he was so quiet, but she thought he said "Thanks".  "W-would y-you like s-some p-punch?" She asked him.
