OOC: To avoid any confusions, the title of this topic doesn't refer to the historical Blitzkrieg, but to the song by Audiomachine.

BIC: It had been some time since Chiara had last been sent on a combat mission. After a meeting with Chiron, Mr D and the cabin counselors, Clarisse had come back with information on various monster lairs and spots that needed to be taken care of. Chiara had volunteered for taking out a group of monsters and demigods who were still loyal to the Titans. Partly because she knew it was her duty, and partly because they were hiding in an abandoned military compound. Now that was definitely Chiara's playground.

Another guy had volunteered, Hayden, from the Apollo's. Hayden and Chiara didn't actually hang out, but they knew each other from playing basket ball along with some other guys in their free time. She didn't know much about him apart that he was kinda nice, wanted to be a vet and had a wicked aim.

Ares and Apollo children generally worked well on the battlefield, as they combined melee and organized fighting, plus having a healer on your side generally helped. But somewhere, only two of them wasn't enough. According to the scouts, they were about twenty monsters, with six or seven demigods. They'd need reinforcements if they wanted to make it.
Which was why Chiara had barged into Nathan after dinner and made it clear to him he couldn't sit around on his lazy bum all the time, DC had been cute, but now was time to start playing for real. "We're leaving on Tuesday at 5 pm. It's time for your @ss to do something useful."

So here she was now, sitting on her pegasus. She was in full battle gear: urban camouflage outfit, matte black Myrmidon armor and combat boots. Throwing knives at her belt, boot knife in her right shoe, bow and quiver folded into her carbon fiber container in her backpack (freshly loaded with cabin-9-made arrows), sword at her side and two tactical knives in her sleeves which she had borrowed from the weaponry. Her military backpack was slung over her shoulder, her red curls tucked away under her black helmet. Their opponents outnumbered them by far, taking them by surprise was their only chance. In her backpack, Chiara had two Greek fire grenades, a thermos full of nectar, a lunchbox of ambrosia, a fire kit, some food and water, her old flashlight, drachmas and a couple of first aid stuff (though the majority of first aid things were carried by Hayden).
The plan was to sneak in, toss the grenades, then sneak back out and kill them off while they fled out of the building in panic. All three of them were skilled archers, which was a plus. Chiara would probably be the one to creep in and throw the grenades whilst Nathan and Hayden took the fugitives out from the rooftops of the compound, until she joined them and they finished the job together. They had been told not to kill the demigods -- unless seconds from death themselves -- but instead bring them back to Camp Half-Blood if they wanted to.

Hayden showed up a couple of minutes after Chiara. "Hey, man," she said with a nod of acknowledgement. Hayden saddled a palomino pegasus whilst Chiara's Apaloosa shifted underneath her, half-spreading his wings as if he knew what they were about to do. Honestly, when it came to going to a battle, Chiara's first choice was to take her Ducati. Arriving on ponies.... it generally didn't make people take you seriously. But her Ducati was loud and powerful, and that just wasn't the type of things you needed when you wanted to take someone by surprise.

Nathan sat upon a jet-black Pegasus, wearing his armor which if his hood were pulled over his head would make the horse look like a flying centaur. Chiara had made it clear that no was not the answer that would be accepted when this mission was brought up. Nathan was packing his bow, a quiver full of Stygian iron tipped arrows and his twin nightingale blades.

He glanced at the son of Apollo that was on the trip with them, He rethought the plan in his head and realized that it had some kinks, but relatively fool proof. And that worried him. Plans that were perfectly made always went wrong, and Nathan could feel the bad luck rolling off this mission. But he didn't say anything, it'd be pointless to try to say anything now when they were ready to take to the skies.

"Where's the compound at exactly again?" Nathan asked as he glanced between the two of them and noticing the gravity of the situation he was in. Hayden he didn't know but was sure had been in the titan war, and Chiara whom had dragged Nathan along specifically because he hadn't been, this was Nathan's first real sign of the war he was in..and he didn't know how to feel about it.

"A couple of kilometers north of Greenville, Maine," Hayden replied, one foot in the stirrups before heaving himself up into the saddle. His pegasus spread its caramel wings, the white mane and tail shining softly in the sunlight. "It's gonna take us about two hours to get there, so it'll be dark when we arrive. Better than attacking in broad daylight," the son of Apollo smiled.

Hayden too had some toys the Hephaestus had crafted, all carefully wrapped up in his backpack. "If everything's okay with you guys... we should slowly go now."

Chiara acknowledged what he had said with a nod and took the reins in her hand. On her arm, she had her signature shield, a Myrmidon one embossed with an ant. She shortened the reins, her hands protected from the leather by fingerless black gloves, and kicked the sides of her pegasus. He unfurled his wings, galloped then took off in one smooth motion.
The three pegasus soared into the air, the palomino, the jet black one and the Appaloosa. Camp Half-Blood shrunk away under them and Hayden angled his pegasus to the left. They'd follow the coastline for now but had to head deeper into the country once they arrived in Maine.

Chiara was concentrated during the whole flight. She only had to take off her helmet once or twice to stick some rebellious curls behind her ears but apart from that, she kept the reins short, her back straight, leaning forward and her heels down. Her fingertips quickly got cold from the high altitude and the wind in her face, but she was inhabited to that after eight years of riding pegasi. It nonetheless kind of hurt. They flew over New York, the skyscrapers looking like dangerous darts to Chiara, on which she could get impaled if she fell from the saddle. Manhattan quickly faded away behind them, the pegasi keeping up a good pace.

The sun had been down for half an hour when the compound came in sight. Chiara squinted to make it out in the mountainous darkness, but the shapes were pretty clear: the large bunker, the barracks, the tank depot, the landing zone... Some were in ruins though; one of the crumpled building looked like a logistics center to Chiara. The whole thing was protected by walls, barbed wire, turrets and artillery that had probably never been used ever since the mid-1940s. There was a disconcerting mix of modern and old which left Chiara with the knowledge people had been here again, people who knew how this stuff worked.

According to the scouts, the demigods and monsters weren't hanging out in the barracks, but in the bunker, which seemed logical to Chiara. Looking at Hayden, she nodded and pulled the reins down and to the right, making her pegasus fly to the ground. Her stomach dropped at the sudden acceleration.

Once safely on the ground next to the bunker, Chiara unstrapped her legs from the saddle and jumped down. Hayden tossed her something that looked like a USB stick and she made for the metal stairs going up the side of the dull gray bunker, followed by Hayden.

Nathan glanced around the compound as they were landing, seeing the obvious people watching from the towers. When he was told it was a military compound he hadn't thought much of it, but now that they were here, compound didn't really feel like it described it well. More like a Fort would be a better description. He felt like he didn't have enough arrows but at the same time knew that if things went well enough he wouldn't need all of them.

A million things raced through his mind as he waited for Chiara to initiate the plan, but he knew he had to clear his head, distractions would get someone killed and he didn't need death of a comrade on his conscious. He drew out his bow and knocked an arrow, his Pegasus shifting under him nervous as he was from the battle ahead.

Chiara found the first security camera and climbed on a piece of scrap metal to be on its level while Hayden notched a couple of anesthetic arrows, crouching behind the wall and waiting for a clear shot. The five guards had heard the sound of the pegasi's hooves on the ground and were now turning towards them, not seeing much thanks to the darkness. It played in their advantage since their opponents couldn't turn on the lights without revealing themselves, but they had little time and Chiara knew it. Fumbling blindly at the back of the camera, she finally found the slit and inserted the USB-stick-like device, waiting a second. A tiny green light switched on at the back of the stick and Chiara looked at Hayden's dark form.

"Clear," she whispered, and the son of Apollo shot out of his hiding place, bowstring drawn back.

The device had been engineered by the Hephaestus kids; they had identified the type of camera from the scouts's pictures and made a stick that, when inserted, would freeze the recording so whoever took care of watching the security cameras's feed would keep seeing the same images and think nobody was there. It was perhaps not as quick as shutting the camera down but it was definitely discreeter. If one of their cameras suddenly went off, they'd immediately know someone was there or they'd send someone to inspect the thing -- in any case, it wasn't very stealthy.
Chiara had left the stick in so it would connect to the other cameras and freeze their recordings as well, and took her recurve bow from her shoulder, the carbon fiber stretching between her fingers as she drew the string back and took her aim.

Already two of the guards had been taken down by Hayden's anesthetic arrows, snoring peacefully on the ground. It took a couple of minutes to get them all but in the end they did it and piled them up in the corner of a watchtower. They left the two demigods asleep (Chiara didn't mind taking some weapons from them, just in case) and killed the monsters; a two dracaenae and an empousa. Chiara had a streak of blood across her temple from where the empousa had cut her with her claws and knife but did her best to ignore the pain.

"A'right, that's done," she whispered to the two guys, firmly adjusting the straps of her backpack on her shoulders. "You two go on the rooftops? I'm going in."

Nathan appeared within the shadow of the main entrance, his pegasus as well as the other two moving away from the fort as Chiara and Hayden took care of the roof top guards. He glanced up and down the perimeter, fading into the shadows to avoid any ground patrols that may be walking at the nightly hour and then appeared out of the shadows as Chiara gave the clear.

Nathan appeared on the rooftop after Ciara asked if he and Hayden would go up there and then immediately appeared next to the when he saw the courtyard of the fort.

"Unless you're packing your father's blessing, or an Achille's Curse, then you're dead the moment you enter that building." Nathan told Chiara.

Behind the doors of the compound were a set of trip wires that only someone with inside knowledge of the building could avoid tripping, and the main door itself had an extra security measure in the form of posted guards to keep track of who went in and went out.

Nathan explained tis to the two of them, glancing around the perimeter, never letting himself get into a sense of safety where they were at. In fact Nathan found the lack of any patrols more disturbing,

"How could you possibly know all that?" Chiara asked.

She knew about the guards because she could sense their weapons, two swords and a dagger, but not the tripwires -- hey she was a daughter of Ares, not Hermes. She wasn't here to fiddle with locks but to bash some skulls in.
Still, his inside knowledge was suspicious.

"Chiara, we can sort that out later. Time's running out."

"We'll settle it now. I wanna know if we have a traitor with us."

Nathan stepped back crossing his arms at the accusation that Chiara was making. After everything they ad been through, Chiara thought that he was working with the enemy? But he couldn't blame her, he had heard the stories of Selina. How Luke had forced her to betray the camp. It's hard to trust anyone after being in that situation, or near it at all.

"The rooftop has flaws that make it possible to see inside, leaks and what not. I peaked in and saw the tripwires on one of the doors. It's logical to think that if they set one door in such a manner other traps of the sort would be in place as well." He told them glancing down the perimeter.

"Chiara, you should know me better..but if you want to think I'm a traitor that's your choice, kill me after we've killed everyone that won't surrender peacefully." He told her as he started to walk back towards the door figuring out the best way to get the two of them in safely.

She ignored his last remark and turned to Hayden. "Better pick another rooftop then," she whispered. "With the grenades, it might collapse."

"I was thinking that," the son of Apollo replied. "I'll find another rooftop, or just take my pegasus. Now you guys get in already."

Chiara agreed to that, drew her smart earplugs from her camo trousers and stuck them into her freckled ears. Those were Hephaestus made too: she'd hear perfectly well but if there was a noise superior to 90 decibels, it would get droned out, the volume reduced. That way her ears wouldn't be ripped to shreds when firing the grenades.
She picked the lock -- guess hanging out with Hermes kids paid off -- wished Hayden luck and walked in, making a huge step over the trip wires.

In the compound, it felt like her senses had been upgraded and everything around her was HD. She had perfect orientation senses, felt calm, relaxed but alert and could feel much more than normally. Her skin tingled with adrenaline. In an adjacent building, she felt the warm, thrumming presence of a tank, several storeys under her, a sharp cluster of weapons where she guessed the monsters and demigods hung out at and to her left, the swords of the guard guys. Nodding at Nathan, she went straight for the first guy at her left. She hit him in the face with her shield, stabbed him in the waist and tripped him up, hitting the back of his head with her pommel to knock him out. Her arm bled, a superficial cut showing a bit of red blood from the guy's sword but that was all. Not worth fretting over.

Nathan went in behind Chiara glancing at the guards and seeing Chiara take the demigod one by surprise. The other guard was a Telekhine that found a nice Stygian arrow in it's back, turning to dust as it's essence was absorbed into the arrow tip. He glanced around making sure their weren't any cameras. When he was satisfied that they were under complete cover he moved along the shadows, keeping Chiara hidden as well till they found a decent place to breathe and decide their next move

Chiara crouched behind a shelf filled with old bags, looking over her shoulder. Squinting, she focused on her senses, on the weapons she could feel around the perimeter. The demigods and monsters were at the very bottom of the bunker, probably protected behind a huge door. And it was in front of that door they'd have to fire at least one grenade. Her orientation senses augmented by the military base, she started mapping the place out in her head. They had to block out all the escape routes except for the one they had just walked into. There were three escape routes in total plus a tunnel leading to the half-crumpled tank depot.
Chiara had two Greek fire grenades. Nathan probably had the same amount. They could do this, though they had to stick together in case anything happened.

She made a let's go gesture with her hand and marched forward swiftly, like a panther. Normally she couldn't walk anywhere noiselessly but now in the bunker it seemed like her combat boots stepped on pillows. They reached the first staircase; Chiara swung one leg over each handrail and slid down before heading to the right. Old concrete walls rose up around them, shelves and broken beton boulders dotted the place. Old neon lights flickered overhead. It smelled of weapons though, it made her nose twitch in aggressive pleasure.
She suddenly tensed up as they walked next to another handrail overlooking the next two storeys under them. She perceived it as if it were infrared; glowing warm weapons coming nearer and nearer, soon they'd be behind them. But not random weapons.

    "Assault rifles," she whispered.

No time to say anything else, she jumped on Nathan, flattening him on the ground under her just the moment fire opened behind them. She could see the impacts of the bullets in the wall in front of them. Good thing they had smart earbuds else their hearing would be shredded.
Her mind was racing; how were they supposed to fight AK-47 guns with swords and antique blades? They'd rip them apart before they even made a move.
Except... If she took her powers in. It seemed like the only solution for now, in her quick thinking.

OOC: Trevor here ^>^ Taking over the NPC's
    BIC:

Hayden stalks the roof tops, his bow already notched with an anesthetic arrow. He was keeping his position as per the plan, however he felt anxious. His ears perked up when he heard gun fire inside the building. What? Guns? That definitely was not expected nor part of any plan that he knew of. Peaking out of his hidy place on the far side of the roof, he shoot another guard out of a watch tower. Slide his bow onto his back, Hayden starts to run towards the edge and then jumps from his roof to the guard tower, barely making it by grabbing on to the ledge. Sweat slipped down his face as Hayden pulled his own weight up into the guard tower. Hopefully from here, he would have a better vantage point at the main entrance to the bunker. He took a quick sweep around the landscape, spotting something out in the distance. Hayden's eyes widen as he begins to make out what it is. "Oh my gods..."

There were two evil-no-good demigods that had pined our two heroes down. Both armed with an assault rifle each, AK-47s, and a celestial bronze dagger. They took cover in the corner of the hall way, unaware if the two unknown demigods had any kind of firearms. Bob, the evil-no-good demigod on left, looked over at Josh, the evil-no-good-demigod on the right, and said "Cover me." Josh simply nodded as he gave cover fire which flew barely three inch above our two heroes heads. As Josh did this, Bob crept up on the heroes as he drew his celestial bronze dagger from his combat belt. The plan was simple. He was going to stab them.

Chiara felt the two guys's movements as if they were insects crawling on her skin. They had a couple of seconds to react and save their lives, no more. They had to act fast. She had to act fast.
She didn't need to look at it or touch it, it was already replying to her command. A swift movement of her arm and Bob's AK-47 suddenly flew over the handrail, tearing the demigod with it. The tug at her stomach was painful, but worth it. A second later, the rifle had blocked itself between the bars of the handrail, the strap having moved from Bob's shoulder to his neck in the commotion, wrapping itself around it. She could hear his chocking sounds from here. Josh aimed at them with his rifle but Chiara didn't give him the time. It didn't matter in which hands weapons were, they were hers to command -- granted she had enough energy. She made quick punching gestures with her fists and the butt of the rifle bashed into his side and face enough to break his nose and knock him out a few seconds later.

"Come on," she told Nathan, opening her hand so that Josh's rifle would fly into her hand, like her palm was a magnet. She tossed it over to Nathan then made the other rifle come back over the handrail, dragging the now unconscious demigod with it. Damn, he was heavy. His leg greaves clanked against the metallic bar as he passed over it. Chiara took the strap from around his neck, hit him over the head with the pommel of her sword for good measure then shouldered the AK-47 and made her way through the corridors, aiming for the first escape exit.
Dang if she had known they'd have assault rifles... This was getting into a whole new dimension.

Nathan stayed down on the ground and waited for Chiara to work her powers of war to take the two demigods out. When she handed him the assault rifle. He seemed out of place. He shouldered the weapon but didn't keep it ready as they made their way down. He adjusted to the low light, finding the placement well and along the way he passed by an armory. The design of the armory was small, almost as if it was made to be the smaller one that soldiers would go to for weapons in case of an emergency response situation.

He walked into the small space and found back in the dust was a pair of revolvers as well as a belt of ammo, some individual and some full drums that you would use in quick situations. He picked up the weapons and turned them in his hands, glancing down the barrels of the guns. He smirked for a moment and then put the ammo belt on, holstering in the revolvers. He moved back to the hallway, the rifle left behind in the room as he joined back up with Chiara and fading them into the shadows to keep them hidden as best he could from any annoying people. He pulled the hood of his cloak up becoming transparent as if his dead shade had returned to guide Chiara through the fort.

Chiara had followed Nathan into the armory, slung two belts of ammo over her shoulder and picked up his discarded rifle. Just the additional weight made her veins tingle with adrenaline. Holding one assault rifle in each hand, she marched straight ahead with determination and vigilance, careful where she stepped, keeping her senses out for any weapons ahead. Soon, they were close to the first escape point and Chiara stopped Nathan with a motion of her arm. The story they were on was open and she could feel two sets of weapons one level under them, right behind the handrail she could see ahead. She silently put her bag at her feet and took out the first Greek fire grenade. It looked like a normal grenade except it had this slightly greenish tint and glowed softly from the inside, like a dormant fire.

She analyzed the weapons in her mind: two big spears, three huge axes. Considering their size and the distance they were from the grounds, the guards were monsters. Perfect. She had been itching to toss those grenades for far too long.
Suddenly coming out from her hiding place, she broke into a jog, one assault rifle on her shoulder, the other one in her left hand, the grenade in her right one. She sprinted along the handrail, spotted the guards at once but didn't let them the time to react. Taking the pin out of the grenade with her teeth, she threw it down at the door as violently as she could before flattening herself to the ground as the wave of the explosion blew her to the side. She hit the wall square, groaning. Green fire clouds curled upwards, bits and pieces of metal, glass and concrete flew around. Chiara got one in the leg but fortunately, she was protected by her shin greaves. Her ears didn't even ring, thanks to the earbuds but her skin felt like she had taken a shower with lava. After a couple of moments she stood up and looked at herself; she had a few burns and bleeding scratches here and there, but they were superficial so she ignored them.

"Come on, I'll let you do the honors next time," she said, wanting to save her second grenade for the last.

The violent explosion caused the walls of the room where the deceased guards once stood to be caked with with monster blood. The pasty green substance had been splattered across the walls like it was a episode of Dexter and on the ground were three piles of ash from where the Lamias, a monster which in ancient times preyed upon small children, and on top of one of these piles were a pair of Ray Bands. Perhaps one of the monsters were wearing them in the moments before they were sent back to the depths of Tartarus. Perhaps they were the spoils and may have magical abilities. If the heroes were to try them on, they might find that the shades were in fact night vision.

However not everything was fine and dandy in the military compound full of bad demigods and monsters.

The explosion should have caused quite a ruckus. However the compound was eerily quiet. All that could be heard was the footsteps of Chiara and Nathan as they walked across the polished floor. This was because most of the monsters had used the ancient tunnels under the compound to evacuate to the outside of the compound. And Hayden knew why. In the distance the son of Apollo could barely make out a large tank advancing on the compound. His eye widened as he saw bright light from the barrel of the tank and he immediately dropped to the floor (or the roof I suppose). The shot hit it’s mark, a guard tower, which collapsed to the ground causing the ground to shake. Panicked Hayden descended from the roof, and ran to the first escape point. A few evil-no-good demigods swarmed behind him. Gracefully sliding his carbon fiber bow off his back he notched and arrow and twisted his body and let loose an arrow into the knee of Jordan the evil-no-good-demigod causing him to collapse. One his buddies stopped to help him up and tend to his wound however two other demigods chasing him continued as one of them pulled out a dagger and barely missed Hayden when he threw it at him.

Nathan moved along with Chiara as they moved through the compound but feeling uneasy when he heard the shaking outside. "Why do I feel like this is becoming too easy..and that Hayden is in serious trouble?" He asked Ciara as they got closer to the Barracks and Nathan drew his pistols, pulling back the hammer on each to prime them for firing. He took a quick moment and then kicked the door in and fired quickly taking out the two beasts that were in the room. He then stopped as he saw that it was empty.

"F*ck..."He muttered as he realized they'd been duped.

Before even getting into the bunker, Chiara felt something was wrong. The place just seemed ...off; and once she looked in, she understood why: it was empty... except for stacks and stacks of weapons.

    "Crap."

For the first time since flying off, the fear of failure actually went from a simple doubt to something concrete. She felt angry, humiliated, furious, stupid. Just because weapons are there doesn't mean people are actually holding them you dumbass!
But this was far from over.

"Change of plans. Back to the roof, now."

Breaking from a jog into a sprint, she felt her armor move up and down against her with every step and sharp turn. Running back up the sets of stairs, she kicked the door open and jumped on the roof -- just in time. Hayden was surrounded by at least six demigods, fighting them off the best he could. He had only his bow though, which wasn't as reliable in short range as it was in long (except if you're Legolas). Drawing her own bow, Chiara notched several anesthetic arrows, their feathers lodged between four of her fingertips, and drew back. The arrows wedged themselves in knee, shoulder and ribcage -- nothing lethal though a lung might be damaged. The three demigods flopped to the ground like rag dolls, a girl curling up in fetal position, a boy sucking his thumb.
Chiara was about to get more but the three other demigods were closing in with fierce expressions. One of them created a wind blast that knocked Chiara clean off the roof -- the world tipped around, blurring in stomach wrenching patterns. Her hand, which was still behind her neck, grabbed a pull-string arrow, pulled it out of its lodge and shot it at the compound above her. Her fall morphed into a curve as she held on tight, the world sweeping away under her feet, and she let go to drop on the opposite staircase, the string dangling down. She was about to go back up when she picked something up -- something she had hardly felt before. Like the thrumming of mammoth feet in the back of the skull. She turned around and felt a fresh load of adrenaline gush into her system.

    They had a tank.

Now that she could work with.

Nathan holstered his pistols as he heard the rumbling crash from something hitting part of the fort. Chiara said to run and he didn't think twice before bolting out of the barracks behind her. They broke out through the stairway to the roof to find Hayden being ambushed and Nathan drew his pistols just as Chiara had knocked out three of the demigods. He vanished as one of the other three created a wind blast but saw Chiara fly off the roof and saw Hayden fall off the roof himself. Nathan groaned in annoyance training two bullets at the side demigods. His shot was off slightly and only one of the bullets made contact, crippling one of the boys legs and the other bullet grazing past the person's head. The boy with the wind powers blasted a gust at Nathan and smirked when he saw Nathan wasn't there

"I do so hate peasants." A voice said behind the boy as a sword appeared beside his throat. Nathan sighed as he jumped back, letting the wind brat pull his own weapons and the other useful demigod slashing at the son of Melinoe. "You're both so useless" He said to them as he blocked their slashes here and there, dancing between them but growing bored as he realized they were both under trained. Then he got caught in a slash as the vibrations on the ground pulsing up to even him on the roof. He winced and then quickly took them out one after another turning to see what was going on.

"Ah f*ck it all...the gods just want us dead or something" He muttered as he saw the metal behemoth rolling towards the middle of the large masses of Kronos's former army. Nathan disappeared and found himself on the ground beside Chiara. "You know dear this is quite the claim of glory for you. Ares cabin is all up about Clarisse taking down that Drake in Manhatten. What do you think they'll say about you turning a tank on a hoard of monsters...and then tearing the beast apart?" He told the daughter of Ares. It wasn't meant to make her be stupid, he just knew once he saw it that Chiara would never forgive him if she didn't get to use and then destroy the tank.

Blitzkrieg (private for Dylan and myself) Empty Re: Blitzkrieg (private for Dylan and myself)

Post by Morgan Landry 3/30/2015, 9:41 am

Chiara had jumped over the staircase's handrail and landed on the ground in a crouching stance; a couple of seconds later, Nathan appeared next to her in that wannabe deus-ex-machina manner he had acquired.

"Son, I don't need to compare myself to Clarisse and I need even less to prove myself to my punk siblings. Now you shut your fcking mouth and stay the Hades behind me. That tank over there? It's mine."

If only it had been the tank though.
Behind it, a swarm of monsters was advancing, Laistrygonians and mormolyces and lamiae to name but a few, and with all the blades they were carrying, it felt like her weapon radar was going crazy. Chiara let her bow collapse back into the carbon fiber cylinder, which she stuffed in her backpack's side pocket. These were far more than the predicted twenty.... Her two assault rifles were still on her shoulders, heavy and ready to obey her every command however she knew it wasn't enough, it wasn't nearly enough. Against all these monsters and the tank, Hayden, Nathan and her didn't have the shadow of a chance. It was simply hopeless. They outnumbered them about what, twelve to one? Thirteen to one?
Which meant she had to up her game.
The tank was about to fire, she could feel it in her spine.

"HAYDEN! MOVE!" she shouted. Fortunately, the son of Apollo was quick on his feet and managed to make it to the next building's roof just as parts of the concrete were getting blasted to bits. The sound of the tank shot was somehow too loud for her to even register -- she could feel it vibrating in the marrow of her bones and the water of her eyeballs. A cloud of dust engulfed her, concreted rained down behind her. Where was Nathan? The little bugger better have teleported out of the way.
Her eyes watered with the dust and when it finally cleared, she wiped her lids with the back of her hand, squinting at the opponents in front of her. Yes, she definitely had to up her game.
Strategies formed in her mind -- now Chiara was generally more in favor of just running straight ahead and beheading anything that came in her way, but even she knew that sole brute force wouldn't do the trick in this situation.
She pointed one of her callused fingers at the advancing horde of monsters and felt an immediate decrease in her strength; at the same time, shouts and yelps could be heard among the attacking crowd then about ten monsters detached themselves from it and ran away, followed by a manticore and three howling telekhines. Chiara set her jaw and rolled her shoulders back; that narrowed the enemies down a bit. Spears started sailing towards her so she held her shield up the time to get cover behind a rather large piece of broken concrete. A blade thudded off her shield. No time to lose. She stomped her foot against the asphalt, which gave a much stronger vibration than normal, an oscillation that reverberated downwards for several moments and kept thrumming in the soles of her combat boots. Nothing happened for some seconds, then a rip appeared in the ground, opening further like a gruesome mouth, making it shake under her feet. Bits of gravel disappeared into it. The first times she had used that power, she had lost her balance and fallen backwards but now she knew how to stand on the trembling ground, as a dead hand appeared from the depths of the crevice and grabbed the edge of the chasm. Hand after hand, ten warriors pulled themselves out of the slim precipice, five Myrmidons in full armor, two Grognards from Napoleon's army and three American gunners, all in battle gear and uniform. Their skin may be gray and their flesh ripped open, showing the marks of their deaths, but right now they looked very much alive and Chiara allowed a wry smile to grow on her sweaty face, panting.

"Vous deux, dégommez-moi ces fuyards," she quickly ordered to the tall Grognards. "The rest of you, with me."

While Napoleon's Old Guard ran after the fleeing monsters, shouldering their bayonet-set rifles, Chiara faced the oncoming horde with trembling limbs. Using her powers really exhausted her but she knew she had to pull through, she wasn't done yet. Heck she hadn't even started.
The daughter of Ares shoved a piece of ambrosia into her mouth as quickly as possible, then nodded at her gunners and Myrmidons, strength surging into her muscles as if she had been injected pure oven-like heat. Gunners at the front. Myrmidons behind me. Let's attack their side.

All of them rose from behind the concrete at once, charging. The gunners fired lines of bullets, causing columns of flames to erupt every time one of them killed a monster, while Chiara and the Myrmidons moved towards their side in phalanx formation.  She had shrugged her assault rifles off and had them hovering above her like magnets, shooting at the monsters. One of them drew an arc through the air as she made it shoot a strix down, the body eaten up by the flames before it even touched the ground. Her concentration was at its maximum, battle reflexes kicking in as they crashed into the side of the monsters, the gunners having retreated to keep the monsters in their range. The first one Chiara charged was an Asian empousa whose spear she blocked before vertically slashing her belly open with an upwards move of her sword. Stomach and intestine spilling out, she fell to the ground to reveal two growling telekhines whose heads filled with bullets a second later.
In a matter of moments, it had become chaos; monsters swarmed from all the sides towards Chiara and her circle of zombie Myrmidons, they were holding their ground, but for how much longer? Five minutes? Eight at most? A Scythian dracaena lopped a Myrmidon's head off and the soldier crumbled to dust in front of her eyes. One down, four left, she bitterly thought as the remaining Myrmidons moved closer to fill in the space left by their dead-again colleague. She just needed to get to that tank -- once she was inside, all these monsters could run as far as they wanted to, she'd blow every single one of them to bloody shreds.

Blitzkrieg (private for Dylan and myself) Empty Re: Blitzkrieg (private for Dylan and myself)

Post by Alpha Wolf 4/13/2015, 7:51 am

Nathan had vanished, disappearing to gods knows where when the tank had fired again. But he reappeared unscathed, aside from dust covering his body like he had just climbed out of the rubble of the fort. His ears rang from the sound of the shot but otherwise he was fine. And certainly good that he was because it was not long before some demigods were darting at him, one of them hanging to the back.

At the same time, he saw Chiara trapped in the midst of a monster horde, her zombies slowing losing their barrings eventually going to fall to the foe at any moment. Hayden was already doing what Nathan was thinking and had arrows knocked firing at the horde surrounding the daughter of Ares, the tank was extremely calm, sitting in the back as the foot forces fought. Possibly believing that it wouldn't be needed any longer now that they were surrounded. Nathan was determined to prove that assumption wrong.

He drew his swords quickly and met the blades of the first two demigods, seeing two more circle around to catch him in the back while the last one hung back. It was a classic school yard bully technique. The biggest of the group hangs back and lets all the runts do the work then ends it with the killing blow. Nathan was unimpressed. As a result he pulled out a trick os his own. Out of the ground he willed two skeleton warriors to rise and with them he pushed back the other two beating away their weapons and then knocking them out with the butt of his swords. The other two, being occupied by the skeletons, had finished them up and Nathan turned on them, catching each of their blades and twisting his own, turning them out of the boys hands, pointing his blades at their necks. "I don't much care for bullies boys. The only bully that I have is that girl over there one man armying all those monsters. Perhaps yous should be smart and run before a slit your throats." He threatened them. Though it was idle at best. Nathan was about to knock them out when he felt a ripping slash form across his back. He screamed in shocked pain as he fell to his knees, his swords dropping to the ground, the three boys standing over him with wicked glints in their eyes.

Nathan felt volleys of punches and kicks all across his body as he fell to the ground, curling up into the fedal position. This carried on for who knows how long, he couldn't keep track through the pain and he knew that Chiara and Hayden were too preoccupied to break off and help. Suddenly reprieve came about as the boys backed away laughing and spitting at Nathan.

"Minor brat.." One of them stated.

"Just another Thanatos loser.." The next one added on.

Whatever the third one said Nathan didn't catch because he had started to cough up some blood. Well...actually he laughed it up. He had started laughing, painfully but still doing so as he struggled back to his feet.

"What's so funny Thanatos spawn? Think you get a round two?" The leader of the little b!tch brigade asked.

"No I just find it funny...I must be a god then...wonder if dad knew he was the god of death..I'm sure mom can certainly explain it all. Melinoe is certainly a...convincing mother..." Nathan coughed out falling, back to his knees for a moment and spitting another glob of blood out of his mouth. Quickly he vanished, reappearing, his guns drawn outside of the circle, 8 more skeletons spawning out of the ground. "Burn in the pit of Tartarus..My name is Nathan Maxwell...son of the ghost." He stated as he pulled the trigger on his gun, the lives of the three boys weighing on him as they took their last breaths.

He spit out some more blood, feeling scratches all along his face. He groaned as he looked too Chiara and sent his newly made Skeletons toward them, his pistols in hand as he shot down those the he could get a mark on.

Blitzkrieg (private for Dylan and myself) Empty Re: Blitzkrieg (private for Dylan and myself)

Post by Morgan Landry 4/30/2015, 6:23 am

Chiara wasn't thinking, just acting. Slashing, parrying, punching, stabbing, kicking, ducking, her skin and clothes were soon shimmering with golden monster dust in addition to the dust from the building collapse, which made her look as gray as her zombies. Her gunners at the back were doing a good job and her remaining Myrmidons were keeping their ground; as for her Grognards, she could see their bearskin caps hurrying back to the battlefield -- killing the deserters had obviously been successful. "Tirez!" she shouted at the top of her voice and they obeyed, shouldering their rifles and shooting into the crowd of monsters. Gritting her teeth and doing her best to overcome the pain of her injuries, Chiara took in the rest of the monsters around her -- about fifteen -- and evaluated her possibilities as quickly as she could. She was tiring, she was losing blood and for every monster she killed, another appeared to take its place, fresh and ready for battle. Arrows rained down which probably meant Hayden was sending his regards, but she couldn't spot Nathan -- she had  glimpsed two skeletons in Greek armor climbing down a building to join in the battle, which was something she knew he could do, but Nathan was-- a telekhine came at her and she kicked it down before slashing its throat and jaw open, blood spurting out onto her shoes --Right, Nathan was nowhere to be seen. She had caught sight of him on one of the rooftops but that had been moments ago and there was no saying where he was right now. Her control on the assault rifles overhead was weakening and she gritted her teeth, clenching her fists. I can do it.

The circle she was forming with her Myrmidons was steadily shrinking now until she came to be shoulder to shoulder with them, the ground at their feet a rich carpet of acrid-smelling gold ashes stained with puddles of thick green blood and other less appetizing things. Two lamiae came at her with reptilian speed, armed with spears and nets and ripped her shield right out of her hand, twisting her arm painfully in the motion, the other swinging her net at her hand. The sharp crochets winding around her wrists, Chiara was momentarily defenseless and even lost brief control over her rifles, which clattered to the ground either side of her. She wanted to tell them to shoot at the two snake-women, but the right one came at her on her green viper body, thrusting her spear at her throat and she had no time. With one motion, Chiara drew her boot knife with her free hand and slashed upwards, cutting through the wood of the spear right behind the blade. Then she threw the knife up into the surprised she-monster's throat, who spluttered out blood, clutched her neck, and caught fire.
Hissing in outrage, the other lamia swung her own blade down at Chiara though froze in the middle of her movements, arrows protruding from her neck and shoulders like strange antennas. She convulsed in pain and fell, revealing Hayden standing on a rooftop far behind. He nodded at Chiara, who gave him a relieved thumbs-up. Then Hayden died.
It had happened so quickly Chiara barely had the time to finish her breath, she only saw the spear appearing behind him and hitting him straight through the neck, cutting through his throat. It had been thrown with such strength that a third of the spear's shaft was protruding from under his chin, gooey red and dripping with blood.

Her eyes wide, Chiara shouted. No. NO. HAYDEN. It couldn't have happened, no. Several moments later, her yell died and her gaze followed the trail of the spear; a couple of rogue demigods were standing on an opposite rooftop, gazing down at the battlefield and notching arrows on their modern bows. They all had Greek armors and spears -- except one. Game over, b!tch. Chiara abided by her own rules but even these rules vanished now. Ordering her boot knife from the ashes back into her hand, she slashed open the netting at her wrist, grabbed her shield, commanded her assault rifles to secure themselves to her backpack and jumped right over the growling adult telekhine standing in her way. Her shield smashed into an empousa's ribs, her sword disemboweled monster after monster but her eyes were fixed on her prize. I'm going to kill you, she kept repeating in her head. Kill you.

Now she had broken ranks with her Myrmidons, the battle became a chaotic melee. She had no-one to protect her sides and back so she was relying on her weapon senses to ward off the rain of attacks -- in movies, they often made it seem like nothing for the protagonist to battle several people at once, but in real life it's not like that. Taking on be it only two trained people at once requires sharpened reflexes and speed; they won't patiently wait for you to block their pal's blow before attacking. If Chiara couldn't sense weapons, she'd have died years ago.
Fortunately though, she had strong armor, quality weapons and blood thirst. Her anger gave her the strength to cut legs, open stomachs and stab groins despite her wounds and her growing tiredness. When the monsters were short enough (mostly telekhines or Underworld dogs), she could twist their heads and snap their cervicals, but it grew difficult to protect her own upper body, especially when a Cyclops grabbed her and lifted her off her feet, baring his teeth to bite her in two. Chiara had approximately two seconds left. She drew one of her throwing knives, ordered it to shatter, and made the sharp celestial bronze shards fly straight into his eye. Dark green blood flowed sluggishly out of the eyeball, covering the large blue iris as the Cyclops' scream of pain echoed around; he fell down and Chiara wriggled herself out of his hand, jumped over a piece of rubble and flung herself up at the tank. Something heavy thudded against her helmet, an arrow wedged itself into her shoulder piece. She climbed up onto the hull then jumped straight on top of the turret, tore the hatch open, grabbed the demigod inside by the scruff of his neck and flung him out before kicking the lid back down and looking towards the demigods on the roof. She extended an arm at them, her bruised and callused hand trembling under her glove. The tank rolled forward slowly, the turret turning towards the half-gods by her own willpower. She clenched her teeth, distorting her face under her helmet in the effort. Her hand shook harder. Kill you.

With an ear-shattering noise, the tank fired.

An entire side of the building crumpled down like a curtain with the sound of an earthquake. A cloud of dust rolled over the courtyard, coating her tongue and stinging her eyes. She panted, her breath raspy.... then her knees buckled and she fell down on her hands.
This last feat had emptied her and she felt drained.. exhausted... famished... She just wanted to lay down and sleep...

Nathan was fighting his own battles amoung the army when the tragedy hit the small task force. He had just cut down a small group of monsters, his guns needing to be reloaded but with no time, and no ease of switching to his bow, he used his swords to cut through creatures and demigods alike. He had glanced and made sure of Chiara and Hayden's situations and that's when things went south fast.

First thing that Nathan heard from Hayden's name being screamed from Chiara's location and then the son of Melinoe turned and saw the spear that appeared in Hayden's neck. Nathan's eyes widened as he vanished and appeared where Hayden had fallen, catching the cold body and quivering in pain as he felt Hayden's life disappear. He broke the spear shaft and pulled it from Hayden's body, laying the form on the ground and roared in agony, tears starting to shed from his eyes.

His reloaded his guns and sheathed his swords, holstered his guns shortly after reloading and catching a rouge sword with his arms, the pain not even registering to his mind. He looked up at the face of the demigod that had attacked him. The boy had a smirk on his face till Nathan met his gaze. "If you know what's good for you...you'll put this little knife away and get the f*ck out of here...I see your face again and you'll be acquainted with the revolvers." He muttered barely above a whisper. The boy laughed which didn't help his situation ad within one fell swoop, Nathan had vanished behind the boy and with a quick motion jerked his head hard to the side and felt it snap, the body falling to the ground.

Nathan shuddered at the feeling of death passing over his body again but it was nothing compared to the pain he'd feel if he lost his other partner. Speaking of whom, Nathan looked up and saw Chiara had commandeered the tank and had opened fire on the demigods that Nathan presumed were responsible for Hayden's passing. He vanished and appeared atop the tank after the dust settled and knealt down beside Chiara. "I'm getting Hayden's body...and then we are leaving....you're too drained to control this tank and neither of us have the strength to deal with these numbers....we have to go now.." He said to her, pulling his revolvers out and firing at a few of the monsters that were starting to get back up from the disorienting blast.

Chiara weakly shook her head. Hayden was dead -- if they left now, he would've died for nothing. And if Nathan wasn't ready to finish the job, she was. She wasn't leaving this place until it was burned to the ground.
But her eyelids were heavy and her focus kept drifting around the tank's camouflage paint. Trying as hard as she could not to think of her bed in cabin 5, she clumsily fumbled at the side of her backpack, unscrewed the lid of her ambrosia bottle and thirstily drank. The taste of fresh homemade lemonade burst into her mouth, reviving her dry throat with a shower of bubbles and she closed her eyes for a brief second, trying to lose herself in the reassuring, homey feeling.
She suddenly felt her skin heat up and knew she had to stop, else she'd light up like a bonfire. Even the tip of her hair had started crackling.
Chiara managed to push herself back to her feet, renewed energy pulsing through her muscles.

"You get Hayden. I get the pegasi. We still have grenades, Nathan, if we get high enough we can drop it on them and let it be the end of it. Meet you on the rooftop."

She climbed and jumped down to the ground, ordering her remaining soldiers to go to the roof too while she sprinted to the side between the buildings, back to where they had landed at. A spear sailed over her shoulder, arrows wedged themselves in the back of her cuirass. Yeah that's the thing with armor, dumbasses. You can't just pierce through them.
Once at the back of the building, she put two fingers to her mouth and let out a long, loud whistle. Three forms soared down from beneath the clouds a few seconds later and Chiara jumped onto the palomino, keeping the two others close behind as she aimed for the rooftop where she had last seen Hayden's body. Her eyes roamed around the compound; from a pegasus' back they had enough range to drop their Greek fire grenades. Nathan would probably take the left side since it was bigger and he still had two grenades whereas she had only one left.
She kicked the pegasus' sides and he angled his wings, rushing for the rooftop and opening them again at the last second, causing a rather brutal landing for Chiara who immediately jumped off.

Nathan wanted to protest her plan but he knew there was no stopping her. He didn't really think the charges would be enough but he thought about just how many of them they had managed to destroy and thought that maybe it could work. Plus he knew that denying the daughter of Ares would be a death wish he didn't plan to deal with right now. He turned and looked towards Hayden. He breathed in deeply and suddenly the stress of his abilities weighed on him and he shuddered for a second. '...two more and I'm out...' He thought to himself and with a quick breath he vanished and appeared next to Hayden's body.

He shuddered beside the body and staggered a bit, getting hit in the back by a sword slash from a monster that wasn't trying to recover from the tank fire. He turned, recovering long enough to pull his revolvers and shoot down the creature, but then he fell to his knee, the pain from the gash in his back starting to run through his body. The armor protected him for the most part, but the blade still managed to cause a decent wound and blood was seeping from the source of the pain.

Nathan shook his head, feeling the sweat roll down his face and groaning, standing to his feet and looking down at his ally's body. "I need a vacation after this bullsh!t.." He muttered and holstered his guns, quickly picking up Hayden's body and then vanishing one more time, appearing on the rooftop where Chiara had landed with the pegasi. He quickly strapped Hayden's body down to his horse and turned, pulling his grenade belts out and tossing them to Chiara then suddenly staggering to the ground as the fatigue from his last jump hitting him like a freight train.

"...I absolutely hate everything right now..." He muttered in agony from the pain he felt and the fatigue that was making his body slowly go limp. He had eaten an ambrosia square but even that was starting to fade off and his tired form was creeping over him and making him progressively more and more useless by the minute. He struggled on his own horse as best he could and drew his pistols..firing at the few monsters that he could manage to target before his 12 shots were gone.

"I can't hardly keep my eyes open anymore..let alone keep fighting, Chiara.." He told her, barely able to holster his own weapons or even keep himself on his horse.
